- TriviaThe small cardboard boxes that Mr. Rees and the other townsfolk carry on strings about their necks contain their gas masks. One of these was issued to every civilian at the start of the war and they were encouraged to carry them at all times when out in public.
- GoofsWhen word comes into the office that there is a big gun out in the churchyard, Mainwaring and the men run out to go see it except for Sgt. Wilson who is left at the desk signing the receipt for the delivery men. The next scene of the men running out into the churchyard shows Mainwaring in the lead with Sgt. Wilson immediately following him.

A confession from Frazer.
A field gun is delivered, the platoon get incredibly excited, The Verger is naturally irritated, but is the only one that can solve the gun's minor problem. A mock up of Walmington on Sea is made, and a plan of action is acted out
It's another fine episode from this wonderful third series, though perhaps not as memorable as some of the classics from the series, it's still very funny.
The scene where they're trying to fire the gun is brilliant, the platoon are willing, but calamitous, it's a very funny scene. The most memorable part I'd say is where Frazer discloses his true past career.
One of the best episodes for Edward Sinclair, who memorably played the gossipy verger.
Enjoyed it. 7/10
