- The team are called to an Arizona college when an arsonist who operates in a very unusual way kills a student.
- Jason Gideon's FBI profile team is called to an Arizona College campus where students and teachers fall victim to arson. However the pyromaniac profile doesn't quite apply: the culprit didn't make sure (s)he could enjoy the crimes by observing the victims perishing. Dr. Spencer Reid finds a better way to fit the facts with a rarer serial killer logic: a 'religious' compulsion, in this case both triggered and given form by a boundless obsession with the number three- if this theory holds true a third, possibly triple, arson is at hand...—KGF Vissers
- The BAU is called to Bradford College in Tempe, Arizona where a serial arsonist is at work. Each of the fires has been slightly different, but the latest was set by pouring an accelerant under a door and lighting it from behind the door. This fire was intended to kill whomever inside the room, which is unlike most serial arsonists whose aim is to view the result of their work, and unlike the previous fires which had no human target. Since these fires are different than those of most serial arsonists, the BAU has no clear profile of the unsub. The BAU is at a loss until they intercept a telephone call from the arsonist that they ultimately determine has a religious connection. Reid, told to think outside the box, finds the pattern which may be the impetus for the arsonist to strike. Meanwhile, Gideon challenges all the team members, but specifically new member Greenaway, to figure out why the Footpath Killer stuttered.—Huggo
