With the end of the series looming the writers whack things up a notch by introducing Julia (though she appeared briefly in the last episode), Richard's ex and love of his life.
It throws a spanner in the works in terms of Caroline and Richard's 'will they/won't they?' romance, and the show is all the better for it, though Julia is annoying.
All the stuff with Richard and Caroline pretending to be married was very funny and well played.
I thought the Del story line was also interesting too, and that combined with the Annie story line shows that the writers are trying to move the characters along with the third series in mind.
