In the back room of the bar where the members of the Fighting 69th hang out they have a variety of spacecraft models on display: the Cargo Sled shooting miniature is shown and on the shelf behind the cast you can see the Galactica Shuttle which would be used again in Buck Rogers second season premiere.
Bombers and tail gunners. In WWII, Allied medium and heavy bombers were very effective in knocking out Nazi manufacturing, transporation, and distribution. Nazi fighter/interceptors were desperate to shoot down those bombers. The easiest way to do that was to come up behind the bomber and hold a steady position while throwing bullets at what amounted to a stationary target. However, the best way for a German fighter to get shot down was to hold a steady position behind a bomber while the tail gunners threw bullets at the relatively stationary fighter. The tailgunners usually won.
