After all the decades watching this show, I think this is the most sentimental episode from the first season, and with some very good acting by Eve Plumb.
It's all about Jan being the put upon, taken for granted middle sister of the family -- which, incidentally, would surface again in later episodes. However, this is a very special story, especially the way it all ends, without giving too much away.
It's short and sweet. Jan receives a gold locket in the mail (no return address) from a secret admirer. The interesting thing about the show is the kids COULD NOT fall in love with each other, even though they were not related. It was not meant to be, although Greg and Marcia seemed to enjoy each others company. In this case, Greg, Peter and Bobby obviously didn't send the locket.
That would leave Mike and Carol (who suspect each other), and Alice. So which adult is her biggest fan?
That's the fun here, and toss in a typewriter that "drops" the letter 'y'. Hmmm? If you're a mystery buff, that idea was taken from scores of movie whodunits. Charles Hoffman wrote the episode, a hero to all us kids, who wrote many cult episodes for BATMAN.
Hoffman gives the Brady's home address as 4222 Clinton Way. In real life, the Brady Bunch house is located at 11222 Dilling Street in North Hollywood, and still there. As of 2024, the new owners (there have been several) have parked the famous Dodge station wagon out front and the cool red Chevy convertible in the driveway. What a blast from the past if you ever get to drive by the old place.
A must see, especially for all us Jan fans. SEASON 1 EPISODE 25 remastered color. Classic first season dvd box set, and with a great cover.
