One of the few episodes where Hoss (Dan Blocker) and Little Joe (Michael Landon) played double roles. Michael Landon will play a double again in Alias Joe Cartwright (1963).
The Hadfields and McFaddens are thinly disguised Hatfields and McCoys, whose infamous feud raged from 1863 to 1891 along the West Virginia and Kentucky border. This episode's lighthearted story also draws inspiration from the Ancient Greek comedy Lysistrata, written by Aristophanes and first staged in 411 B.C.

This is the first time that any Cartwright has been in Texas. Here, both Hoss and Little Joe are in the "Lone Star State."
Ben and Adam do not appear. Lorne Greene and Pernell Roberts are just credited. This is the first time Ben is absent and the first of three times Adam is absent.
