Storyline
Did you know
- TriviaBob says he charges $35.00 an hour. After adjusting for inflation this would be equivalent to $150.00 in 2014 dollars.
- GoofsBob feels that he isn't helping his patients anymore. He tells Emily he has been treating Mr Carlin for 6 years and he hasn't gotten any better. Mr Carlin reminds him that he was Bob's first patient when he just started out. Earlier in the show, Bob tells his professor that he was a college student in 1953. Unless Bob took 20 years to finish college or 20 years to begin working, the time line is a little off.
- Quotes
Emily Hartley: [Bob, feeling even more unsure than ever about his profession, is talking to Emily] Bob, you are not a fraud, and whatever you do, it works!
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: You know what I do? Emily, you wanna see what I do? I just want you to watch everything I do for the next ten minutes, and then I want you to tell me what you think.
[Bob picks up the phone, and rings Howard. Howarad comes over - with his phone - the cord, running all the way back into his apartment]
Howard Borden: I can't leave the phone, I'm on stand-by.
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: It's alright Howard, Just, uh... sit down
[Bob motions to Howard to step into the living room. Bob sits in a chair, facing Howard, and Emily scrunches in next to Bob to watch]
Howard Borden: [Howard nervously looks from Emily to Bob, back at Emily, then over to Bob again] What'd I do now?
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: Nothing, I, uh, just... wondered how everything is going.
Howard Borden: Fantastic.
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: Uh-huh.
[Bob glances at Emily]
Howard Borden: Really fantastic.
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: Uh-huh.
[Bob glances at Emily again. She begins to catch on to what Bob was saying about his job]
Howard Borden: [Howard's staring at his hands] Of course, this stand-by thing kinda gets to you, once in awhile.
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: Uh-huh
[Emily's staring at Bob, and sucks in her cheek]
Howard Borden: You know; this waiting
[Howard begins to rock back-and-forth]
Howard Borden: makes you tense.
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: [Bob's eyes widen] Tense?
Howard Borden: Yeah, exactly. You don't know if you're gonna fly, or not. Can't take a drink. Can't make a date! Feel like a piece of meat, hanging on a hook
[Howard, feeling upset, rubs the side of his face]
Howard Borden: Waiting to be shipped off to the market.
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: [Bob looks at Emily] Uh-huh.
[Bob passes his tongue over his teeth]
Howard Borden: It's really frustrating, you know?
[Howard stands up]
Howard Borden: You know, you never know where they're gonna send you, you know; London, Paris... Pittsburgh.
[pauses, and smiles]
Howard Borden: Although, Pittsburgh's kinda nice. Not knowing makes you crazy.
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: Uh-huh.
Howard Borden: [Howard's thrust his hands in his pockets, and is rocking as he speaks] Of course, sometimes it's nice, not knowing where you're going. You know; some place new, all the time, you know?
[Bob's looking at Howard, as Emily - knowingly - looks at Bob]
Howard Borden: Go to cities you've never been to before - adventure, and mystery, and chicks - lotsa chicks!
[Howard's smiling]
Howard Borden: Ah, I like that, you know I wouldn't give that up for anything in the world, you know what I mean?
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: Uh-huh.
[Bob - looking at Howard, nods his head slightly as Emily, looks at Bob, her eyes narrowed into slits]
Howard Borden: What was I thinking about? I feel great! I mean, I feel really great! I was so depressed when I came in here, and now I feel...
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: [Finishes Howard's thought] Wonderful.
Howard Borden: Wonderful! Oh!
[Runs to grab Bob's hand, and shakes it, in gratitude]
Howard Borden: You're the best! The BEST! Now I can't wait for that phone to ring
[Howard's phone rings]
Howard Borden: Hello? Yeah
[Excited]
Howard Borden: I've been waiting for your call. Pittsburgh! Perfect!
[Howard's still talking to the airline, as he closes the door, and heads to his apartment]
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: [Dejectedly] And... that's what I do, Emily. $35 an hour. 8-hours a day.
[Bob sucks his teeth]
Dr. Robert 'Bob' Hartley: What'd'ya think?
Emily Hartley: [Smiles] I think you oughtta be arrested.
