The ending has Baldrick elevated to being a lord over Blackadder, much to the latter's annoyance. In 2013, Tony Robinson was knighted, while Rowan Atkinson "only" got a CBE.

In the first episode of this series Baldrick is ennobled. At the time it was impossible to strip someone of their noble title, so throughout the rest of the series Baldrick is technically 'Lord Baldrick', and would have the right to sit and vote in the House of Lords.
Election candidate Ivor Biggun of the Standing At The Back Dressed Stupidly And Looking Stupid Party is a spoof of the real-life Monster Raving Loony Party, led at the time of filming by Screaming Lord Sutch. Although never elected to Parliament, Sutch nevertheless was a well-known political figure who contested many general elections and by-elections, and was popular for bringing some levity to the serious nature of British politics at the time.
The closing music is a clever take on the typical Black Adder theme song rearranged in the style of Paul Simon's Graceland, which, a year earlier, was one of the most popular records in America and the U.K.
