JOHN WAYNE VISITS GRANNY?
MUST SEE TV.
Incredibly funny, and one of the most famous episodes, thanks to the winning team of Paul Henning and Buddy Atkinson, who made this sitcom what it is. Henning also created the series, without too much surprise.
A story that had to be coming, especially since Jed and Granny kept in touch with the good folks back home in Bug Tussle. It's all about the boundary of the Clampetts oil land, and a dispute with an Indian reservation. Granny mistakes it for a DECLARATION OF WAR against her family!
Representatives Chief Running Wolf (veteran character Stanley Waxman) and Little Fox (played by young John Considine) want to negotiate the real estate part of the deal, while Granny prepares for battle -- just like in the old west! I agree with the last reviewer, Granny and Mr. Drysdale have the craziest scenes together. They are NUTS.
I wouldn't be surprised if Henning and Atkinson were western fans, thus writing a bit role for none other than JOHN WAYNE to compliment the insanity.
He does, although his part at the end is brief. But we'll take what we can get. Reportedly, Wayne asked for no salary, only a bottle of Jack Daniels! Super trivia question.
By the way, it has been bantered about where the name of Bug Tussle came from. There actually is a small town called Bug Tussle in Texas, also in Alabama, Kentucky and Oklahoma. So Paul Henning did, in fact, do his homework.
SEASON 5 EPISODE 20 remastered color CBS/Paramount dvd box set. 4 dvd set. Classic box cover with a family portrait of everybody in their Sunday clothes! Seasons 6 through 9 will be remastered on blue ray, according to Amazon, in 2027.
