GRANNY DANCES THE TANGO?
Series writer Mark Tuttle MAY have gotten this wild idea from MY THREE SONS. In that show, Uncle Charley was duped by a dancing school. In this case, Granny is hustled by a pair of schemers (Frank Faylen and Iris Adrian) into dance lessons and --as always -- FAST CASH. A goofy story like this had to be coming...
What follows is Classic Comedy, and the reason why this show is legendary.
Best of it is the appearance of Frank Faylen, playing Marvin. All us Dobie Gillis fans fondly remember him as Dobie's super dad, one of the best tv dads ever. Frank shows off his dancing style with Granny, doing the tango! Don't miss Granny gettin' all dressed up to impress her new admirer? Marvin the con artist is aided by Iris Adrian (as Marita), another super character actress and comedienne who appeared in many classic movies.
Biggest surprise is an all out dance-a-thon, featuring Mr. Drysdale and Miss Jane -- and Buddy Ebsen, known for his fancy dancin' in a long career. Buddy even danced with Shirley Temple back in the day (CAPTAIN JANUARY).
Oustanding entertainment with a music slant. As I have written before, the color episodes were over the top and brought out the very best in the cast. IT SHOWS. Everyone is having a blast.
A salute to the cast, and guests Faylen and Adrian. SEASON 5 EPISODE 9 remastered color CBS dvd box set. Catch the classic cover family photo.
