If you followed the series back in the day, some of the later episodes had a touch of dark comedy, and who better to get caught up in the proceedings than JR.
Writer and associate producer Gerald Sanford did the story, and it's interesting, particularly for the offbeat performance of Sarah Kennedy. She plays Cleo da Vinci (you have to love that name), a young psychic who joins JR in trying to solve the case of three missing women. Kennedy was a natural, both in dramatic and comedy roles, frequently cast on LOVE, AMERICAN STYLE.
On the other side, and In a part that probably was written for him, burly Norman Alden plays "Norman." a cold blooded murderer, and quite clever, which literally keeps JR and Cleo on their toes and nearly getting killed themselves. As the story progresses, it has both a dramatic and campy slant, setting it apart from other episodes.
Good support from actress Marianne McAndrew (as Linda), who appeared in such cult films as THE SEVEN MINUTES.
By the way... Cleo owns an owl, a seagull, some birds and two kittens?
Worth watching for both Kennedy and Alden, in one of his most unusual roles to be sure.
First episode of 1979. SEASON 7 EPISODE 13 -- a coincidence or something to do with that number? Remastered CBS color dvd box set. 2018 release.
