The photograph of Gen. Moore's daughter, Lt. Samantha Green, that Col. Lard first notices is different than the close-up that is shown of it a moment later.
The radar equipped Corsair that gets hit with enemy fire and barely makes it to Vella La Cava has no radar dome on the starboard wing. But after they pull the wounded pilot out of the plane, there is suddenly a giant white radar dome in the middle of the left wing.
When the radar equipped Corsair lifts off from the carrier, the number 90 is clearly visible on the port side of the aircraft, but when it lands at Vella La Cava, it's missing.
In the plane ride to La Cava, the nurse asks Jeb, "How are things in Glocca Morra?" Jeb says, "What", to which she replies, "Never mind", but it is clear she is referring to the song from Finnian's Rainbow, which didn't wasn't published until 1946 and didn't become known to the public until the Broadway show that came out in 1947.
When Sgt. Micklin is firing the .50 Cal at the Zero coming at him, the bullets from the Zero are hitting the ground almost directly underneath the airplane, as it strafes the base. The aim point for the guns of a fighter like that is well ahead of the aircraft for dog fighting in the air and it should be impossible for the rounds to hit underneath or behind the aircraft.
In the newsreel footage near the beginning, the credit date is MCMXXXIX, or 1939. Since the topic is Americans joining the war effort, it would have been dated no earlier than 1941, or by the point shown 1942. This reveals stock newsreel footage from a far earlier story was used.
The "night" flying in the first engagement by the Corsairs was clearly shot using a filter on the camera lens to . This can be seen by the blue sky and white puffy clouds when the anti-aircraft guns are firing.
Actresses Nancy Conrad, Brianne Leary, and Kathy McCullen are credited twice, once at the beginning and then again during the end credits.
There is no way Jeb Pruitt would be allowed to have his hair that long. The way it's worn is obviously a 70's haircut. In fact, many of the squadron don't have anything near military haircuts.
When Sam is at the locker and in the subsequent scene with Casey, she is wearing a modern underwire bra under her slip. While the underwire bra was designed in the 1930's, it was not widely used until the 1950's. A diversion of metal for the war effort curtailed its use in the 40's.
The Corsairs have bot three bladed and four bladed props, but in the war the props were all had three blades. In addition many of the insignias that should be on the Corsairs are missing.
Casey is wearing no rank insignia on his uniform when he pretended to be a doctor, and tells Sam he is a Lt. Colonel. Before she leaves, she calls him Captain, yet in the subsequent scene with the other nurses, she clearly didn't know who he was, so she would not have known he was a Captain.
"Lt." Jeb Pruitt, played by Jeb Stuart Adams, as a Marine, would be either a 2nd Lt or 1st Lt. "LT" is a Navy rank. Furthermore the Marines would likely never tolerate 1970s hairstyles, especially worn as long as the actor had worn his.
All of the nurses are sporting 1970's hairstyles instead of those popular in the early 1940's. Also, the skimpy shorts and shirts worn by the nurses would never be tolerated in a forward combat area, especially one that was know to come under enemy attack from time to time.
Lt Jeb Pruitt never had a military haircut.
