At the very end of the episode, it's revealed that Dr. Stein' (Dan Castellaneta)s first name is Frank. Presumably his middle initial would be "N".
When the doctor, played by Dan Castellaneta, comments on an error he may have made during Michael (Jason Bateman)'s appendix operation, he says 'Doh' a catchphrase used by The Simpsons (1989) character Homer Simpson who is voiced by Dan Castellaneta. Lucille (Jessica Walter) instantly replies, saying 'I knew it'.
At the beginning of the episode when Michael (Jason Bateman) is on the phone discussing the contract, he mentions that they have gone from 22 homes to 18 homes. This is probably a reference to the change in the number of episodes from season 1 to season 2, 22 episodes to 18.
When Ben Stiller's character remarks that "some band" has the rights to the title "Use Your Illusion" (which he had wanted to use for his magic DVD), he claims that he will simply rename his DVD as "Use Your Illusion Too." The band he is referencing is Guns N' Roses - and what is funny about this is that the band released two simultaneous albums in 1991: "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II."
The line "Ancient Chinese Secret, huh?" parodies a catchphrase from an American television advertisement of the 1970s for Calgon (a laundry water softener).
