- Len: Boss!
- Carter Holmes: This territory needs honest and fearless representatives by a man well-qualified to get things done. I suggest to you that I am that man.
- Simpson: Boss! You better stop talkin' and start listenin'!
- Carter Holmes: All right, Simpson, what is it? Make it brief. I gotta lot of promises to make to my audience tonight.
- Len: You better make 'em good, because your competition's still breathin'.
- The Abilene Kid: I'm the Abilene Kid. Maybe you've heard of me.
- Carter Holmes: I've heard of you several times. As a matter of fact, I just heard you were in prison.
- The Abilene Kid: I was, but I don't like to talk about the past. It's the future that concerns me.
- [Annie and Lofty see the Abilene Kid, a notorious gunfighter, ride into town]
- Deputy Sheriff Lofty Craig: There's no charge against him in this territory, Annie.
- Annie Oakley: Yes, but if he stays here long enough there will be.
- Deputy Sheriff Lofty Craig: The best thing you can do is get on your horse and ride out of here.
- The Abilene Kid: That's not being very sociable, is it?
- Annie Oakley: We're not running a rest home for gunfighters or haven't you noticed?
- The Abilene Kid: I've got myself to consider, Dave. You got yourself a nice practice, good little ranch. What have I got?
- Dave Morgan: You chose your own life. Nobody did it for you.
- The Abilene Kid: A man gets tired of running. I'd kinda like to settle down.
- Dave Morgan: What is it that you want? Money?
- The Abilene Kid: It won't cost you a cent, Dave. All you gotta do is drop out of the election.
- Carter Holmes: I'm merely trying to mix business with politics, my boy.
- The Abilene Kid: Good, I figure I'd like 20% of that business.
- Carter Holmes: So would everybody. What have you got on your mind?
- The Abilene Kid: A way to get Dave Morgan out of the election.
- Carter Holmes: I'm perfectly capable of taking care of that myself without making a partnership with a fast gun.
- The Abilene Kid: Sure. But I can do it without any gun play. Like that.
- Kathy Morgan: It's just that I love him so much and he's been so good to me. Just like my real father would have been.
- The Abilene Kid: Your real father? You know about him?
- Kathy Morgan: Yes, Uncle Dave told me all about him.
- The Abilene Kid: He did?
- Kathy Morgan: Yes, he must have been a wonderful man. He was a hero, you know.
- The Abilene Kid: A hero?
- Kathy Morgan: Yes. He died in the war. He saved all his regiment. He got lots and lots of decorations.
- The Abilene Kid: Your Uncle Dave told you all that?
- Kathy Morgan: Yes, why?
- The Abilene Kid: Oh, nothing. I was just thinking.
- Kathy Morgan: My Uncle Dave says it does a man good to think.
