Gail Davis: Annie Oakley

Quotes

  • Tagg Oakley : Do they really put live snakes in their mouths?

Annie Oakley : Yes, Tagg, but it's a religious ceremony. A prayer to the gods for rain. You know, they're an agricultural tribe, the men till the soil, and the women are expert at weaving baskets and making pottery.

  • Sergeant O'Hara : Who's in command around here?

Tagg Oakley : My uncle Luke's the Sheriff.

Annie Oakley : Uncle Luke is away this week.

Sergeant O'Hara : Well, who's in charge when the Sheriff's not here?

Annie Oakley : His Deputy, Lofty Craig.

Tagg Oakley : Lofty's out of town too.

Sergeant O'Hara : Well, who's in charge when he's not here?

Annie Oakley : Well, I guess I am.

Sergeant O'Hara : Hmph! I suppose when the blonde's out of town, the office is run by this kid here. Who runs the office when you're not here? The Easter Bunny?

  • Annie Oakley : Indians don't use blacksmiths.

Tagg Oakley : Then who shoes their horses?

Annie Oakley : Nobody. Their horses don't wear shoes.

Tagg Oakley : But the horses, they all wore iron shoes. I even found one.

  • Annie Oakley : He says they gave the horses as a gift. From the white men to the Hopis. And as soon as he got on the horse, they shot him.

Cliff Dodge : No redskin's gonna make an accusation against me.

[He produces his gun which Annie shoots from his hand, and then lands another shot at the ceiling lamp, and the oil pours down on Steve's head and face]

  • Annie Oakley : Tagg Oakley, you're a trooper. In fact, you're more than a trooper, you're a whole regiment.

  • Sergeant O'Hara : You've got no right to hold me in this jail.

Annie Oakley : Well, you're not in jail. You're in a hospital. With bars on it.

  • Sergeant O'Hara : Is Lofty a male or female Deputy?

    Annie Oakley : He's a male.

Sergeant O'Hara : About the size of your kid brother?

Annie Oakley : No, Smaller. He's the Easter Bunny. Only six feet four.

  • Sergeant O'Hara : [about Annie wearing his Sergeant's uniform]  Well, if she don't scare the Indians back to the Reservation, nobody can.

Tagg Oakley : Well, I'll say.

Annie Oakley : No remarks from you, O'Hara. Let's have a little dignity on this post.

[Annie salutes and does her level best not to trip over her sword, again]

  • Annie Oakley : After all, you're only a lowly, local Deputy Sheriff. You can't give orders to the United States Cavalry.

  • Annie Oakley : Something bothering you, Corporal?

Corporal Sam : Yes, Ma'am. Ah. Sergeant.

Annie Oakley : Any questions, Corporal?

Corporal Sam : Just one. Sergeant. Ma'am. Where are you stationed? I want to put in for a transfer.

[Annie and Corporal Sam salute each other, thus ending the most delightful and engaging chapter of Annie's adventures to date]

  • Sergeant O'Hara : You're a civilian. If the Army catches you in that uniform, it's a federal offence.

Annie Oakley : And if they catch you without this uniform on, it's a court martial offence.
