- Winifred 'Fred' Burkle: Although I thought I just might shoot you in the throat instead. Now if I pierce one of your carotid arteries, considering the temperature in here - 'cause I think somebody shot the thermostat - the blood loss is gonna be heavy. And there's a better 'n fair chance I'll puncture a vocal cord and you won't even be able to scream. But you'll want to when the blood loss to your brain results in a cerebral vascular event. That's a stroke. I wasn't tryin' to sound snooty.
- Cordelia Chase: Sure I like her! What's not to like? She's sweet and adorable and... seems to be laughing at something that shrub just said.
- Angel: What's this?
- Cordelia Chase: "Enemies Of Merl" list.
- Angel: Hey! Why is my name at the top of this list?
- Cordelia Chase: Uh, "A"?
- Angel: Merl and I were not enemies.
- Cordelia Chase: Oh, okay, my mistake.
- Angel: I'm the one that found the body, remember?
- Cordelia Chase: Oh, and that's not suspicious. The one time you pay Merl a social visit, and he ends up dead?
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: This is madness. Angel has a soul.
- Gio: He's a vampire.
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: With a soul!
- Gio: Whatever. You think that makes him the same as us?
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: No. Better. Better than you, anyway. When he did his pleasure killing he had no soul. You can make no such claim.
- Angel: I don't know. Stopped by this morning. Thought I'd give "sincere" one more shot. Even brought donuts. But, this is what I found. So far, we've ruled out suicide.
- [first lines]
- Angel: [apologizing to Merl] That night still haunts me. I'm ashamed how I treated you. The way I used you. I took what I needed, then I cast you aside and that... That was wrong of me. It was very wrong.
- Merl: He's reading!
- Angel: I made some notes.
- Merl: I don't feel the sincerity here.
- Angel: I told you it was a waste of time.
- Merl: Real friends don't need notes.
- Angel: We're not friends, Merl. We barely even know each other.
- Merl: Not like you made the effort either, is it?
- [last lines]
- Charles Gunn: No matter what else, I think I proved that you can trust me when I could have killed you and I didn't.
- Angel: No - you'll prove I can trust you when the day comes that you have to kill me - and you do.
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: [to Rondell] If you don't mind I'd prefer a clean kill. The last time I was merely wounded. It took months to heal. Wounded, if I recall, in an attempt to help you.
- Angel: [about the Furies] Tell them to lift the spell, and I'll be able to fight back.
- Cordelia Chase: Yes! They'll lift the spell and then you can fight... all twenty of them and still get killed. Great idea.
- Cordelia Chase: Angel wants you to get out.
- Winifred 'Fred' Burkle: Oh, I see. Okay. No, I understand. I only have a few things to pack. It won't take long.
- Cordelia Chase: No, Fred. That's not what I meant. Out into the real world, you know. Just for the evening or something.
- Winifred 'Fred' Burkle: Oh, oh, oh.
- Cordelia Chase: You're exactly the sort of girl who would have hated me in high school.
- Winifred 'Fred' Burkle: Oh, I'm sure that's not true.
- Cordelia Chase: No, no it is. I pretty much saw to it. I was a cheerleader, had power, popularity. You didn't know me then.
- Winifred 'Fred' Burkle: No I didn't. I knew you when you were a princess.
- Cordelia Chase: Uh, right. Anyway...
- Winifred 'Fred' Burkle: [singing] Crazy. I'm crazy for feelin' so lonely. I'm crazy...
- Cordelia Chase: [to Wesley while Fred is singing "Crazy" on stage] I swear to God, she picked out the song herself.
- Angel: [to Cordelia and Wesley] You might want to ask yourself this: If I had killed Merl, would I have brought doughnuts?
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: It was them. They killed Merl and the others.
- [to Gunn]
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: You knew.
- Charles Gunn: I should have said something. I was going to. I was just... I was trying to work it out, man. Figure how to deal.
- Lorne: So, have you worked it out yet?
- Fury #1: Only Angel...
- Fury #2: ...Is equipped...
- Fury #3: ...To make good on the debt.
- Cordelia Chase: Angel, pfft! I don't know, you know for a guy who's a couple of centuries old, not very big with the wise investing. And, when you say "equipped", that isn't what you mean, is it?
- Fury #1, Fury #2, Fury #3: Mmm... Angel.
- Cordelia Chase: Got it. And, ew.
- Angel: [about Fred] She's been back in this world for three months, and she still hasn't gone out into it.
- Cordelia Chase: Right. And it's not like the last time she was out in the world, she got sucked into an inter-demensional portal and ended up living like a hunted-animal in a hostile, demon, alterna-world, or anything? Oh, wait. Kind of is, isn't it?
- Lorne: Miami.
- Gio: Did you say something to me, green boy?
- Lorne: Was three thousand miles really far enough, I wonder? I know why you left. Why you ran. You couldn't stay there, could you? After what you did. She trusted you.
- Gio: Shut up.
- Lorne: Right up until the end, she trusted you. Did you know that?
- Gio: [hits Lorne in the face with the butt of his rifle]
- Rondell: Gio's from Miami.
- Charles Gunn: Ah... Coast-to-coast, huh?
- Gio: It's somethin' like that. You might be able to help me out. Why is it that places like L.A. and Miami bring out the teeth you suppose? I mean, you would think that the vamps would want to hang in less sunnier climes, you know what I'm saying?
- Charles Gunn: Yeah, I think I do.
- Angel: What's this one?
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: Samuel Larch, a bookie. Merl owed him quite a lot of money.
- Angel: Demon or human?
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: I'm not sure.
- Angel: Care to find out?
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: Demon, then.
- Gang Member: [to Gio] Smoke him, Gio!
- Angel: Look, I want you to go to this address.
- Cordelia Chase: What is it?
- Angel: Transuding Furies.
- Cordelia Chase: Gesundheit.
- Charles Gunn: [about killing Angel] You think I won't kill him because he's my friend? That ain't why. Truth is, he can never be my friend. It's on account of what he is. Not his fault, really. Just the way it worked out.
- Rondell: [about Angel] He ain't your friend. I am. And you gonna choose that over me?
- Charles Gunn: Looks like. It's about the mission, bro. He's got it. You don't.
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: [to Gunn] If you ever withhold information or attempt to subvert me again, I will fire you. I can't have any one member of this team compromising the safety of the group, no matter who it is. If you do it again, you will be dismissed, bag and baggage, out of a job onto the streets.
- Green Demon: Oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, God.
- Red Demon: Shut up! He ain't listening.
- Wesley Wyndam-Pryce: It's never easy, the pull of divided loyalties. Whatever choice we do end up making, we feel as though we've betrayed someone.
