- TriviaAfter Sean Astin told writer/director and close friend Douglas Petrie about his "fervent desire to be directing episodic television," he shadowed producers David Greenwalt and Tim Minear for several weeks to get a feel for the series before he was given this episode to direct. "Television sort of mandates that you keep moving," Astin says, "but you don't want to stop. Angelus [has] so many layers and so many different shades and qualities, you want to keep exploring them and mining them and pulling them out. It's such a rich, meaty character for him to do. He's good at evil. It's a little creepy."
- Quotes
Angelus: [to Connor] And now my boy's in love, all hearts and flowers. But, doesn't it freak you out that she used to change your diapers? I mean, when you think about it, the first woman you boned is the closest thing you've ever had to a mother. Doin' your mom and tryin' to kill your dad. Hmm, there should be a play.

Stinky poopy pants
This is the first episode of Angel I actually hated.
We get all this dialogue about how evil Angelus is before
they find a way to remove Angel's soul. Warning after warning of the dangers that are facing them. "You have no idea how bad Angelus is. He's pure evil" etc And then, when Angelus finally emerges, to show us how evil he really is, he hurls childish insults.
Huh? He calls Fred skinny (bag of bones)
He makes fun of Wes by saying he has a crush on Fred.
Um, that's not evil, that's a couple of normal 5yr olds in every school in America. In fact, his insults were so childish and lame, I don't doubt that those 5 yr olds wouldn't make Angelus run home to mommy crying. What the writers used to get in the characters head by "casting doubt" would have made most people cry from laughter.
And people liked this? I don't know. Maybe the other reviewers were young when watching. But it wouldn't take me five minutes to write something that would actually sound evil, and not childish. And I'm not even a writer.
In fact it got so bad, I have expected him to call someone a Stinky poopy pants. At least that would have made me laugh.
But all I got was one hour long eye roll at how "evil" Angelus was.
