As they walk along the block at night, Opie is asking Andy about Gregory Peck in the movie they just came from, mentioning that he used a northern accent in that film, but that he used a southern accent in the Peck film they saw the time before. This would indicate that they just saw Captain Newman, M.D. (1963) and the one before that would have been the southern-based To Kill a Mockingbird (1962).
In the first scene, when Barney approaches Mrs. Mendlebright's front door with his groceries, the director cuts away from him to the meeting between Mrs. Mendlebright and Mr. Fields because there is no way for Barney to get all of his groceries into the back of his shirt, which is tightly tucked into his pants. This kind of editing is known as a "cheat" in filmmaking.

In this episode, the water cooler in the courthouse has been moved from between the two jail cells to beside the bookcase.
The title of Enid Markey's (Mrs. Mendlebright) first stage play was "Up in Mabel's Room" which was staged on Broadway in 1919. This episode's title is a reference to that earlier play and must have been intentional.
