Don Knots really plays well off Hal Smith (Otis) in this episode! Especially in the scene where Barney is trying to get information out of Otis about his lawsuit while in the jail, and TAPING the conversion; he shares Otis' moonshine, and gets drunk. Afterwards, Andy finds the recording and starts to listen. Then Barney shows up, sees Andy listening to the tape, and keeps trying to get Andy from listening, turning it off. But Andy insists. Next thing you know, you hear Barney and Otis singing together on the recording! Absolutely HILARIOUS! And Barney trying to explain that is was all part of his plan, classic Barney! There has NEVER been anyone since, in my opinion, to match Knots' comedic talent. The actor who played Otis' lawyer did a fine job, portraying a real sleazy barrister.
This episode has a wonderful ensemble cast. Hal Smith almost always enhances the show. Wish there was an Andy Griffith Show channel; it seems there are always episodes that I have never seen from week to week. Every show in the series is decent for all age groups to watch, and it is still always entertaining! That makes it tops in my book.
