Andy Griffith and Don Knotts will reprise the judo demonstration in the epilogue of an episode of Griffith's series, "Matlock."
Allan Melvin appears eight times on The Andy Griffith Show (1960), each time as a different character.
The basic plot of this episode, a "milquetoast" character taking drastic and unusual measures to avoid a town bully who has threatened him, would be re-used in season 8's "Howard's Main Event," with the bullied character being Howard Sprague instead of Barney. Interestingly enough, although the bullies in the two episodes are completely different characters, they are portrayed by the same actor, Allan Melvin.
At the end of the episode, the Judo scene between Andy and Barney is identical to the opening scene of season 1's "Andy the Marriage Counselor."
