Mom, please don't throw my stuff away
sonnyschlaegel30 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
His mom tells Bobby she is going to tidy up his room when he's away at school. She says he doesn't need his baby stuff any longer. Bobby, who is about seven years old, is reluctant. He wants to keep his picture-books, his toy railway, etc. But mom shows no mercy. Among all the things she puts in the garbage bin is a picture-book titled 'The Greibble'... Shortly afterwards, when mom is watching TV, a lightning causes the electricity to fail - and a large creature appears that begins to eat nearly everything in reach, including a grand piano. Will mom be able to get rid of the Greibble?

Not among my favourite episodes in this series. It's not very funny in my opinion. It seems there's basically only one (repeated) joke: the Greibble eating all sorts of things. On the plus side, the creature effects are good (done by Rob Bottin, who is famous for his special effects work for 'The Thing'). I think the message of the story is: don't throw away your child's toys if he still loves them, and I think that that is a good message. (Perhaps the Greibble is revenging Bobby: it doesn't eat food, but all sorts of things that *mom* probably would like to keep.) I remember that I sometimes had problems similar to Bobby's when I was a child. Later, my mom threw away the small 'Captain Blood' reprint movie poster that I had on the door of my room. 'It was old and torn at the edges and didn't look good any longer. You don't need it any longer.' Well...

All in all, this episode isn't really bad in my opinion, but it's not very good either, so I have given it five points.

How Will She Recover Financially?
Hitchcoc26 May 2014
Other than the creature, who is quite amazing, I enjoyed this even less than when I saw it 28 years ago. I just couldn't get over the utter destruction that this creature causes. He eats everything. Somehow, the young woman, played by Hayley Mills, finds him cute and eventually puts up with his horrible behavior. I guess we're supposed to feel anger toward her because she threw away all her son's treasure because she feels it is time for him to grow up. Before he can eat the entire house she drives him to the city dump. The all-you- can-eat buffet. When she returns, he is back. At this point I've tired of it and don't really care.

Not enough to sustain a half hour time slot.
planktonrules23 June 2015
This is definitely one of the silliest episodes of "Amazing Stories"-- and it's bound to turn off a lot of viewers because of this. A housewife (Hayley Mills) finds a weird creature lurking around her house and it's eating all sorts of inanimate objects--such as folks, plates and even a piano! Inexplicably, other than asking the mailman for help, she never called for help. However, after a while she realizes that although the creature is VERY destructive, it's also not a threat to her.

I really think THE reason for this episode was to show off the talents of the folks who made the Greibble creature. Apart from this, the story is threadbare and there just isn't much to it.

Fun little fairy tale like of a strange and adorable creature!
blanbrn28 March 2019
This "AS" episode from season 2 Nov. of 1986 called "The Greibble" is one that's strange and a different little tale that proves the imagination can come to life! The tale involves Joan Simmons(Hayley Mills) as a harried and hurried stressed mom who as a house keeper is up to her ears in dust and cleaning. So one day when she sends her son away to school, upon throwing away and going thru his toys, comics, and kids books a strange thing happens. One of the children book characters comes to life! All of a sudden on this wet rainy storm like day a new giant floppy big eared creature appears inside the house! And this big thing called "Greibble" has a big and very hungry stomach as it eats everything! Also it wreaks havoc and tears up everything only it befriends Joan later. Wow good fantasy like fairy tale from director Joe Dante(from "Gremlins" fame) which proves that a kids storybook can come to life!
