This episode was inspired by the 1950 Japanese film "Rashomon" directed by Akira Kurosawa, as was many other episodes of various American sit-coms.
Inside joke: When Jack offers Archie an apple piece cut from his penknife, Archie replies "In ancient Rome, they killed Sid Caesar with a bunch of them." Carroll O'Connor played the role of Servilius Casca, one of the assassins who stabbed Julius Caesar to death in Cleopatra (1963)
The technique of telling the same story from three varying points of view was used earlier in The Dick Van Dyke Show (2:9 The Night the Roof Caved In) and in The Odd Couple (2:21 A Night to Dismember).
This is the 2nd episode where Gloria calls Archie a "monster" after the episode "Archie Goes Too Far."
