This was the last episode of the series for which y Pete Duel portrayed Hannibal Hayes. Duel had committed suicide during the filming of the second season. In some scenes of this episode which Duel had already filmed, but in which the audio needed to be rerecorded before the episode could be completed, voice actor Paul Frees dubbed in the voice of Duel's character. Beginning with the next episode, the part of Hannibal Heyes was played by Roger Davis, who had provided the voice-over for the narration in the opening credits for the previous episodes.
The title is taken from a short story by Mark Twain "The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg."
