- James Heller: Tony, I want to thank you for filling in and I'd like you to stick around and assist Miss Dessler.
- Tony Almeida: I'm sorry, who?
- James Heller: Michelle Dessler, do you know her?
- Tony Almeida: I used to be married to her.
- James Heller: Maybe you should go home.
- Erin Driscoll: I'm afraid to.
- [she cries]
- James Heller: [Long pause] When my wife Susan died, I didn't deal with it at all. Actually, I went to work the next day. I remember thinking to myself, "That's life. Quit feeling sorry for yourself. Get over it, get on with it". A few weeks later, I answered a call from an old friend of Susan's who did not know she had died.
- [pause]
- James Heller: And when I heard myself saying "Susan has passed away", when I actually said those words, it hit me. All the pain I was trying to shut out just overwhelmed me. Erin, you can't keep it inside. You cry, you blame God. You blame yourself and then you cry some more. And all the while you let your friends help you. It's pretty simple. Very painful. And I am so, so sorry for you.
- President John Keeler: [Through video conference] Jim, Erin. First I want to express my deep gratitude for what you've accomplished so far today. Rescuing back the control of the Override has saved thousands of American lives. The latest NRC report is that the San Gabriel Island meltdown is now under control
- James Heller: That's great news Mr. President, but has your staff informed you that we still have a few "problems" to deal with?
- President John Keeler: Yes, that's why I'm calling. I understand the man responsible for today's attacks is still at large?
- James Heller: Yes Sir, he is. His name is Habib Marwan, his been a long term employee of a major defense contractor
- President John Keeler: Yes I heard, McLennan-Forrester. This Habib Marwan, do you believe melting down the reactors was his end game or do you think his planning something else?
- James Heller: As long as his still out there, we have to assume it's not over
- President John Keeler: Erin, exactly where are we on apprehending this man?
- Erin Driscoll: All our resources are being deployed to that end Mr. President, we'll have more information in a few minutes once I've been briefed by my staff but we know Marwan's in Los Angeles and we will find him
- Edgar Stiles: [During a meeting] using the alias "Harris Barnes", Marwan worked at McLennan-Forrester for the last two years as a Senior Engineer: his most recent project was the design and development of the Override
- Erin Driscoll: Before that?
- Tony Almeida: Here's the timeline we've "pieced" together, he went to graduate school in England, then worked several years for a company outside of London. Now it's not clear if he was radicalized there or before that but the one thing we do know is that from the day he arrived in the US, everything he did was about today
- Erin Driscoll: What were his other duties at McLennan-Forrester?
- Sarah Gavin: We don't know yet: we're taking a first pass at his records now. I'm looking into the possibility he may have used McLennan-Forrester as a base to recruit his sleeper cells
- Tony Almeida: And that brings up another issue, at present time, we have over eighty percent of field personnel looking for Marwan. I'm just wondering if we should divert part of that man power to root out some of these other cells?
- Tony Almeida: [after she doesn't respond] Erin?
- Erin Driscoll: I'm sorry Tony, what was the question?
- Tony Almeida: Do you think we should reduce the field load on Marwan?
- Tony Almeida: [after she doesn't respond again] how about we take some of our people off Marwan but keep a floor of sixty percent still looking for him? Would that work?
- Erin Driscoll: Yes, that would work
- Tony Almeida: Ok
- Tony Almeida: Edgar, I want you to relocate personnel
- Edgar Stiles: Based on what?
- Tony Almeida: Keep the people who've come in the last six hours working on Marwan, I want our most alert people focused on him
- Sarah Gavin: Are we going to ignore what just happened here?
- Edgar Stiles: What'd you mean?
- Tony Almeida: She's talking about Erin Driscoll
- Sarah Gavin: If she can't focus, she shouldn't be running this place
- Edgar Stiles: Her daughter died a few minutes ago: give her a little more time
- Sarah Gavin: More time? Since when do we have the luxury of time?
- Edgar Stiles: She's not stupid, she knows what's at stake here
- Tony Almeida: Your right Sarah, we have don't have the luxury of time. We have work to do and our mandate doesn't include deciding Erin Driscoll's fate
- Sarah Gavin: I think we have to tell Secretary Heller
- Tony Almeida: No, we don't, not yet. Now let's get back on it
- Paul Raines: Look, I don't resent you
- Jack Bauer: I wouldn't blame you if you did
- Paul Raines: You didn't "steal" my wife: we were separated, that's fair. I'm not going to let you take her away from me
- Jack Bauer: I don't really think that's up to you or me
- Paul Raines: Maybe it isn't but she still has feelings for me, I can hear it in her voice. I'm going to fight to keep those feelings alive
- Jack Bauer: You're going to have to do what you've got to do
- Curtis Manning: Do you have the abstracts on McLennan-Forrester yet?
- Sarah Gavin: One second, I'm finishing it now. Alright, McLennan-Forrester was a principle contractor and design of the Override and Marwan, under the alias "Harris Barnes", had full security access on that project
- Curtis Manning: And you ran FBI checks on the others that were involved on the project?
- Sarah Gavin: Yes, they came up clean
- Curtis Manning: So he's the only terrorist who had inside access to a defense contractor
- Sarah Gavin: Actually more than that: McLennan-Forrester in addition to being a weapons manufacturer trains their clients to use their weapons
- Curtis Manning: International clients?
- Sarah Gavin: Yes, several countries in the Balkans, Asia, and the Middle East. This is a massive situation, when Jack gets to McLennan-Forrester, his going to have to get into company records and find out exactly who Marwan dealt with
- Curtis Manning: It's not going to be that easy. This reflects on the company, they'll be reluctant to give up any incriminating information even if Marwan was the only guilty party
- Tony Almeida: [Addressing CTU staff] can I have everyone's attention please? By now every one of you know I've taken Erin Driscoll's command on a purely provisional basis: all protocols remain the same, I want updates from all department heads every fifteen minutes. Other than that, I'm still here to support you, now let's get back to work
- Tony Almeida: You hear from Jack?
- Edgar Stiles: He and Paul Raines are looking through Marwan's files now
- Tony Almeida: Any promising leads?
- Edgar Stiles: Nothing yet
- Tony Almeida: Before Erin left, she told me the one person I could rely on is you
- Edgar Stiles: She said that?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah she did, so if anything comes across your desk that you think is important, I want you to bring it to me directly alright?
- Edgar Stiles: You got it
- Tony Almeida: Alright, thanks
- Yosik Khatami: [Meeting in an alley] is everything alright? I heard you had a problem?
- Habib Marwan: CTU got to the Override before the other nuclear plants melted down
- Yosik Khatami: Well, at least you're safe
- Habib Marwan: For now but they know who I am: they'll be tracking me with everything they've got
- Yosik Khatami: How does that affect our scheduling?
- Habib Marwan: It doesn't. Stay on task, make sure everything at the air force base is ready when I give the order
- Yosik Khatami: I checked in with everyone as of ten minutes ago, we're going to make this happen
- Habib Marwan: Remember when you're done, get in touch with Prado, he'll get you out of the country
- Yosik Khatami: [Before hugging, implying this is the last time they're going to see each other] and you?
- Habib Marwan: [after hugging, before Yosik gets into his car to leave] go
- John Reiss: We need talk seriously before CTU gets here
- Gene McLennen: What's the problem?
- John Reiss: It's "more than a coincidence" that one of our products the Override was stolen and used in today's terrorist attack
- Gene McLennen: What'd you mean "more than a "coincidence"?
- John Reiss: The entire operation: everything from Secretary Heller's kidnapping, to the meltdown of San Gabriel Island was organized by one of our own employees
- Gene McLennen: [Stands up from his desk] what're you talking about?
- John Reiss: One of our engineers, a man we now know is a terrorist named Habib Marwan was running his own covert organization from within our company
- Gene McLennen: When did you find this out?
- John Reiss: Couple minutes ago they called: one of our employees Harris Barnes was actually Habib Marwan
- Gene McLennen: Who else knows about this?
- John Reiss: Just the two of us, and Conlon
- Gene McLennen: I'm not going to keep this a secret. We have to let the government know, right away
- John Reiss: Sir, if you do this, with a hundred percent certainty this will be the end of this company. Now you built McLennan-Forrester from scratch everything you have is tied up in it and if this comes out your name will be synonymous with what happened today: terrorism and treason
- Gene McLennen: Well, what'd you want me to do? Lie to the government?
- John Reiss: If I knew twenty-fours ago what I know now, I would've done whatever it took to stop today's attack but there's nothing we could do now but protect ourselves and keep this company from going under which it will do, if CTU finds out the truth about Marwan
- Gene McLennen: CTU will subpoena the file, they will found out the truth
- John Reiss: No they won't. I promise you, Colon and I can deal with this, if you let us
- Gene McLennen: I don't like the sound of this
- John Reiss: We implicitly violated National Security procedure. This could mean prison time, we've got to protect ourselves
- Curtis Manning: Have you scanned all the satellite imagery around the Rockland building?
- Edgar Stiles: Yeah, everything's been taken of the Override
- Curtis Manning: Alright, I want you try different frequency channels on that satellite
- Tony Almeida: Manually?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah that's only way we can be sure it'll be sealed off
- Edgar Stiles: You're going to have to talk to Tony about that. I'm supposed to be backing up Jack and Paul at McLennan-Forrester
- Tony Almeida: Put somebody else on that: this more important
- Tony Almeida: [Walking over to them] what's more important?
- Curtis Manning: We've got seventy five percent of our people at McLennan-Forrester, I need Edgar to help me find a thread on Marwan
- Tony Almeida: No, we won't have much of a chance of finding Marwan by satellite. Our best chance of picking up a thread is through those files at McLennan-Forrester
- Tony Almeida: [to Edgar] stay on that
- Curtis Manning: We can't afford one security grade analyst? Over imagery?
- Tony Almeida: Yeah, one but not Edgar. Put somebody else on it
- Curtis Manning: Are we trying to accomplish the same thing here? Or is this about you establishing your position?
- Tony Almeida: I don't have to establish my position, I've already got it. What'd you say we stop "arm wrestling" here? I respect your opinion but we're going to disagree from time to time and when we do, we're going to do it my way
- Curtis Manning: Fine but I suggest you put more manpower into a data search for Marwan
- Tony Almeida: Grab a couple people from Image Processing, work the satellites with them. Don't worry, I'm going to be out of here when this crisis is over but in the meantime, I want the same thing you do, I want to find Habib Marwan, alright?
