Whew! This Show Takes An Emotional Toll Even On The Viewers!
ccthemovieman-127 May 2007
A man named "Rabens" has the last vial of the virus that is still loose and he, too, is loose in a subway station in Los Angeles. They know he's nearby but they haven't caught him yet....but it's close.

Meanwhile, Tony is being interrogated and at least he's honest, admitting he put his wife ahead of national security. Later, they need his help and the boss reluctantly lets him do it. BTW, half of the staff should be "interrogated" for sloppiness. Can you imagine allowing the main culprit to be shot in their own office??

This season-ending episode does what you'd except it to do, finish with a long, suspenseful scene. Also as expected, it goes down to the final seconds (puh-leeeze!!!).

Then we have the last 10 minutes of the episode to clean up a few other matters. They all were handled well, I thought, and the very ending also is appropriate, with Jack losing it a bit. Hey, the man is entitled!

This was my first experience with this show. Man, it's exhausting!!! However, I have the Season Four DVD and, after a break for perhaps a month, I will anxious to check it out. For all you "24" fans, you've already been there.

The end of Day Three
MaxBorg8910 September 2008
Another season finale, another overflow of powerful emotions: the end of 24, Day 3, doesn't have the same dramatic punch of the final moments of the first two seasons, but it still confirms the show's status as one of the edgiest, most compelling TV programs of the 21st century.

Significantly, it seems to go badly for everyone involved: Jack and Chase put their lives on the line as they follow Saunders' henchman Arthur Rabens to a public school where the terrorist intends to release the virus; Tony faces charges of treason for what he did to save Michelle; Kim has to think carefully about her future; and David Palmer, having to deal with the political and personal aftermath of Sherry's death, makes a shattering decision regarding the election.

In a way, this represents a closure of sorts for the series, at least as it looked like in the beginning, since this final hour of Season Three suggests the cast of the next day will be quite different. The last image in itself is less openly shocking than its Day 1 or 2 counterparts, perhaps because the entire episode by its own is worth a hundred cliffhangers. The last on-screen interaction of the season between Sutherland and Haysbert, in particular, truly marks the end of an era. Outstanding

Season three comes to a close
Tweekums27 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As we enter the final hour of season three Jack and Chase coordinate the search for Saunders' accomplice at the underground station while Saunders is helping identify the man back at CTU. It looks as if the threat will soon be over but just as Saunders is about to identify his man he is shot and killed by the widow of Gael, who was at CTU to pick up his belongings! Unable to identify the man Jack orders that everybody must be searched but even this doesn't work as the terrorist stabs two LAPD officers and escapes through another exit. Jack and Chase pursue him and ultimately corner him in a school; they split up to fin him and eventually Chase does but after a fight he is forced to attach the device holding the virus to his wrist to prevent it being removed. The device is activated before Jack can kill the terrorist; with no way to detach the device Jack only has two options to save Chase... deactivate it or cut off Chase's hand! Meanwhile President Palmer learns the fate of his ex-wife and must decide what he wants to do next in his political career and Tony says his good byes to Michelle before being taken into custody.

Given that this was the final episode of the season I had expected more explosive action but it turned out to be exciting enough without spectacular action. The scene where Saunders was shot wasn't as big a surprise as it could have been; the way the person keeping an eye on Gael's widow was conveniently distracted after we'd seen her looking at the board with Saunders' picture on flagged that she was about to do something! The finale was a different matter though; I thought Jack would either defuse the device or Chase would die a hero's death... I did not expect a wince inducing scene featuring a fire axe! The ending certainly suggests that at least two long term characters may not return in further series although this being '24' one never knows; if somebody is alive they can be back! As always the acting was solid from the main characters right down to minor one scene characters. Over all this was a fine conclusion to an exciting season.

A fitting end
Mr-Fusion10 May 2017
As grand a villain as they've made Steven Saunders, the finale takes a hard turn and sweeps him away pretty early on. It's all about chasing down that last courier with the virus in Los Angeles. And even though Kiefer Sutherland carries a great deal of this, the writers give James Badge Dale an opportunity to bring his A-game, both during a brutal fight scene a and defusing a bomb. I didn't like Chase Edmunds when this was originally broadcast, but Dale gets credit for really putting in the effort.

But in the end, it's Jack that shoulders the tremendous burden of today; what he's had to do in Mexico, endangering Jane Saunders, maiming his own partner . . . and still being called back into service to clean up the mess.

It's a fantastic scene, and Kiefer acts his heart out.

And, In the End
Hitchcoc22 January 2019
There are two specific focuses here. Of course, the last guy with the last vial of the virus is still out there. Much of this episode is the pursuit of this guy. It starts in a subway tunnel and ends in a middle school. Some incredibly hard decisions must be made, especially when it comes to saving Chase's life. Back at CTU, there are some interesting situations. What do we do with Tony? What will happen to Saunders? Will there be a picture of the final link in the chain? Add to these two the death of Sherry and its implications. Will the President escape this? It's a really exciting conclusion. I couldn't help but think: Jack must be so tired.

Season Three
zkonedog4 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After watching the first season of 24, I was completely hooked by the political angle. After watching season two, I was inspired by the intensity of lead character Jack Bauer. This season, the third installment, combined both of those factors, making it my favorite 24 hours of the series so far!

Whereas the format of the show is basically the same as its two predecessors, the drama is ratcheted up even further (as hard as that is to believe) with the web of emotions surrounding each character. Whether it be Bauer, daughter Kim, boyfriend/agent Chase, or the entire CTU staff (Almeida, Dessler, Chappelle, and O'Brien), all have character arcs that will have you dying to know what happens next.

The basic premise of the season (although true 24 fans know how much that changes from episode to episode) sees a terrorist threatening to release a deadly biotoxin in Los Angeles, while Bauer and CTU race against the clock to track him down. Every episode is (as usually) filled with new twists and turns at every commercial break, and the subject matter changes so much from beginning to end that you will feel as if you have watched multiple seasons!

Each season of 24 that I have seen (I am currently working my way through them on DVD) has left me with one defining moment. Season One was the treachery of Nina Myers. Season Two was the brutal interrogation that Bauer orchestrates. This season, the moment that really stuck out for me was the (potential) disastrous effects of the biotoxin that is threatened to be released on the city. How much damage is ultimately caused I will not tell you here, but suffice it to say that even just the threat of it will having you rooting for Bauer and his cause more than at any time in the past.

Why the f#ck some people are voting this episode with 1?? This is going beyond me!
jigsaw-912 November 2013
This episode is excellent and is a great season finale to 24. But there is a problem. This episode had a weighed mark (8,8 if I don't fail to remember it) but when I made my comeback here, I found myself into the madness and anger when I saw that this one had a SO UNDERRATED AND UNAPPRECIATED MARK OF 8,3!!! WTF??? I understand that some people could not love or like this show. I understand it and all my respect to that people. But when I saw that this thing on every masterful episode of the show (S1 - 12 AND 24, S2 - 15 & 24, S3 - 18, S4 - 24, S5 - 1-12-24, S6 - 4...) I realized that some group of people or someone with several accounts is making bad and injury to the ratings of this show. I'm not going to believe that episodes that are considered the best of the best and at this time in 2013 were sill being loved to all the viewers are now at so low points even in comparison with other transitional or even weaker ones that have their mark.

Please, a note in a movie or episode or anything could guide people to watch it or not or even to voting it positively or negatively. But, please, don't manipulate people and not to vote 1 just to see a legendary episode fallen.

The only thing you will make is to force people not to trust in web pages like this and to stop having it in consideration to vote a show. And this could be so sad...
