- Jack Bauer: [after shooting Goren] I need a helicopter and a back up team ready to leave here in fifteen minutes
- George Mason: Are you out of your mind?
- Jack Bauer: You want to find this bomb? This is what it's going to take
- George Mason: Killing a witness?
- Jack Bauer: That's the problem with people like you, you want results but you never want to get your hands dirty: I'd start rolling up my sleeves
- President David Palmer: [while fishing together] what'd you want to do tonight?
- Keith Palmer: I don't know, get a movie?
- President David Palmer: [before Keith chuckles] you came all this way just to watch a video?
- President David Palmer: how's your mom?
- Keith Palmer: [Shrugs] who knows? I mean she puts on a happy face for everyone but I know she's hurting
- President David Palmer: Yeah
- President David Palmer: [after noticing someone radioed the agent a message on his Walkie-talkie] what is it Rosser?
- Agent Rosser: There's a situation Mr. President
- Jenny Dodge: They've been waiting for us in the OC Mr. President
- Keith Palmer: I'll see you back at the retreat dad
- President David Palmer: Hey wait look son, I'm sorry
- Keith Palmer: Don't be: it's not your fault. I just miss hanging out with you
- President David Palmer: I know. We'll get there
- Keith Palmer: See you later
- President David Palmer: Alright
- Jenny Dodge: I know how much you want to spend time with him. I'm sorry sir
- President David Palmer: How bad is the situation?
- Jenny Dodge: I haven't been fully apprised yet but I don't have a good feeling
- Prime Minister: [Over the phone] Mr. President, I was told you need to speak to me
- President David Palmer: What can you tell me about a terrorist organization known as Second Wave?
- Prime Minister: Of course I've heard of them but my government firmly rejects its tenets and its methods. In fact we've arrested several of its members
- President David Palmer: And how do you account for three Second Wave camps operating unimpeded inside your country?
- Prime Minister: There are no camps in my country
- President David Palmer: Prime Minister I know two things: one, Second Wave is planning an attack against one of my cities today. Two your government supports Second Wave
- Prime Minister: I would appreciate it if you would stop using "my people" and "my country" as a source for every threat level from the United States
- President David Palmer: What I'm saying is not meant to be a threat, simply a statement of fact. If a bomb goes off on U.S. soil today, I will have no choice but to retaliate with immediate and decisive force against your government
- Prime Minister: This is an insult. We are not planning to attack the United States
- President David Palmer: Insult or not if you care for the lives of your citizens you need to hear me loud and clear. Mr. Prime Minister, if a bomb goes off today it will hurt us but it will destroy you
- Prime Minister: Then Mr. President you will have created an enemy of over one third of the world's population. Proceed carefully
- President David Palmer: You as well Sir
- President David Palmer: [after knocking on his door] come in Eric
- Eric Rayburn: Mr. President, you wanted to see me?
- President David Palmer: Yes, this report seems to be missing a casualty assessment
- Eric Rayburn: I'm having those figures compiled right now. They'll be ready in about ten minutes
- President David Palmer: Alright, thank you Eric
- Eric Rayburn: Mr. President, if I may, I think you need to have a serious conversation with the Pentagon they've been apprised but they need to know how to proceed
- President David Palmer: It's too early to discuss a response. We don't even know who to retaliate against
- Eric Rayburn: You know the Prime Minister was lying?
- President David Palmer: Yes, he was lying about the terrorist camps but that doesn't mean his government was responsible for this terrorist threat
- Eric Rayburn: Mr. President,
- President David Palmer: [Interrupts him] Eric, enough. Right now my only concern is protecting Americans. Somewhere in the city of Los Angeles, there is a terrorist with his finger on the trigger and we've got to get him
- Reza Naiyeer: [Before kissing] hi sweetheart
- Kate Warner: [Jokingly] hey you two cut it out
- Reza Naiyeer: What? I can't kiss my own wife?
- Kate Warner: She's not your wife for at least another ten hours
- Kate Warner: [to Marie] Andre's on the phone
- Marie Warner: Why? Is there a problem with the flowers?
- Kate Warner: I don't know
- Marie Warner: [Irritated while walking away] God
- Kate Warner: Whoa, sorry
- Reza Naiyeer: Where are the tables?
- Kate Warner: Well, they're not even here yet and I don't think they'll have everything set up in time
- Kate Warner: I thought you were picking your cousin up from the airport?
- Reza Naiyeer: I sent a car
- Kate Warner: A cab?
- Reza Naiyeer: No, the company car
- Bob Warner: There's the groom
- Reza Naiyeer: [Referring to the garbage bags his carrying] let get that for you
- Bob Warner: No, I'm fine
- Reza Naiyeer: [while walking away] I told Marie I'd help her fix the fountain, so let's get to it
- Kate Warner: Dad, did you tell Reza he could use the company car to pick up his cousin?
- Bob Warner: Kate honey please not today
- Kate Warner: [Listing the luxuries they give Reza] I'm sorry but every now and then fine, but there's the condo in Palm Springs, the days off
- Reza Naiyeer: Why is it you can't trust Reza? I can't believe it's because his from the Middle East...
- Kate Warner: [Interrupts him] dad please you brought me up better than that, I don't know if it's something else
- Bob Warner: What?
- Kate Warner: I don't know maybe it's just I'm having a hard time letting go my little sister
- President David Palmer: [Over the phone] I know you've been avoiding CTU's phone calls this morning
- Jack Bauer: I don't work for them anymore Sir
- President David Palmer: So I hear, how's it all going?
- Jack Bauer: It's been difficult Sir
- President David Palmer: I'm sure it has. I thought a lot about you this past year
- Jack Bauer: Thank you Mr. President
- President David Palmer: I know this is a bad time but I need your help
- Jack Bauer: Sir, I've been inactive for over a year. I can't see how I've be of any help to you
- President David Palmer: We are in the middle of a grave situation that requires the attention of all branches for our national security. My advisers are convinced that you can play an important part in this effort
- Jack Bauer: Mr. President, I'm sorry but I'm in no condition...
- President David Palmer: [Interrupts him, raising his voice] listen to me, I know you suffered a loss. I know it's hard but this is not a routine request. go to CTU, listen to what's happening then make your decision. You saved my life. I trust you as much as anyone and now I need your help
- George Mason: [Addressing the CTU staff] alright heads up I need all department heads over here right now we have an active priority: I just got off a conference call with NSA and Division. It appears there's a nuclear bomb under terrorist control somewhere in Los Angeles and is set to go off some point in the course of the day. So from this moment we do not communicate with anybody outside our secure envelope. That means we don't call home, don't talk to friends, and we don't call relatives. Our job is to find this device and stop it. We do not want to create a panic. I know this isn't very pleasant but this is our job. This is what we do. So let's do it.
- Tony Almeida: I still haven't been able to reach Jack
- George Mason: Don't worry about it. NSA got a hold of him.
- Tony Almeida: [Referring to the terrorist threat] is this why they wanted him? I mean his been out of play for over a year
- George Mason: I don't have all the details yet but I'm guessing it has something to do with one of his previous covers
- Eric Rayburn: [Giving his presentation to the President] given that this scenario the immediate loss of life would be in the low thousands: theoretically small but the dispersal of radioactive debris from the dirty bomb is unpredictable. We could multiply that figure many times over
- President David Palmer: We understand that we don't know whether this is a dirty bomb or something bigger: give me the worst case scenario
- Eric Rayburn: Alright, worst case scenario. Stolen soviet nuclear warhead properly configured triggered detonated five hundred feet above the city approximately one hundred square miles would be irradiated within seconds. Apart from the loss of life, this kind of blow would have global repercussions that would last for years
- President David Palmer: Thank you Eric
- Eric Rayburn: What would you like to do about the Joint Chiefs Sir? Their representatives are waiting to hear from you
- President David Palmer: I'm not ready to speak to them yet
- Eric Rayburn: Mr. President, if I could "suggest" if you could start the dialog?
- President David Palmer: At this point, this is not a military operation. It is a "potential" terrorist attack. That's the way I'm going to approach it
- Eric Rayburn: Yes sir
- Tony Almeida: Paula, I need you to open another socket for me and Mason wants to see you in the conference room
- Paula Schaeffer: [Nervously] I don't know if I can do this
- Tony Almeida: Of course you can do it
- Paula Schaeffer: No, I mean I'm just a programmer and I don't I work very well under this pressure so maybe they just want to bring somebody else in?
- Tony Almeida: Look, there is no one else. You're the best at what you do, that's why you were called in here. Just take it one task at a time, right now all I need you to do is open a couple sockets and then get to the conference room alright?
- Paula Schaeffer: Ok
- Tony Almeida: [Greeting him] hey Jack
- Jack Bauer: Hey Tony, how you doing?
- Tony Almeida: Fine, how you been?
- Jack Bauer: Alright, where's George?
- Tony Almeida: His waiting for you in the conference room
- Jack Bauer: Been briefed?
- George Mason: [Attempting to introduce them to each other] Jack Bauer, this is Michelle...
- Jack Bauer: [Interrupts him] what am I doing here George?
- George Mason: There's a rogue nuclear weapon here in Los Angeles. Intel says it's going off today
- Jack Bauer: How good is your Intel?
- George Mason: Very. NSA did the ground work. We have high probability leads on regional cells that might be involved
- Jack Bauer: How close are you to ID-ing a prime suspect?
- George Mason: Not close at all, that's what your here for
- Tony Almeida: [after jack leaves the room] George, let me talk to him
- Tony Almeida: Jack, wait a minute
- Jack Bauer: I don't have time for this, I'm sorry
- Tony Almeida: Jack listen to me, the reason you were called is because it's a background match. You're the only one who can run on this
- Jack Bauer: I don't care
- Tony Almeida: Look, it's not like before alright? We can get to Kim before you can. We can get her out of the city and we can keep her safe, I promise you. The best you can do is to help us find that bomb
- Jack Bauer: I trusted everybody here at CTU to protect my wife and I lost her. I'm not going to lose my daughter I'm sorry
- Tony Almeida: I know, I was there
- Jack Bauer: Look, I know you did everything you could: I do. I just can't lose my daughter I'm sorry
- George Mason: [Sarcastically] great Almeida, now what?
- Tony Almeida: Back off George I did the best I could
- George Mason: I guess your best isn't very good
- Michelle Dessler: Look, maybe there's another way to find Wald
- George Mason: Gee, why didn't I think of that? Your right. I bet NSA just had us bring in a burnt out agent for the challenge of it. If there were any number of guys who could've done the job...
- Tony Almeida: Settle down George alright? Let's just sit down, re-group, and figure out what we're going to do
- George Mason: What we're going to do? We're going to call NSA now
- Jack Bauer: [Suddenly appears at the door of the conference room] here's the deal: I want Nowell or Grothy to take my daughter to a safe distance outside the city
- George Mason: Done
- Jack Bauer: I also want to be kept up to date on their status at all times by Tony. I'm sorry George I just don't trust you
- George Mason: Well, you're going to have to start, what we're up against today none of us can walk away from. Tony and I will both take care of Kim
- Tony Almeida: [while nodding] I'll do it now
- Reza Naiyeer: Scott's coming to the wedding?
- Marie Warner: Yeah, he called last night
- Marie Warner: I thought the only reason you invited him because you thought he wouldn't come
- Marie Warner: Well I dated him six years ago honey. His more like a brother to me
- Kate Warner: [Jokingly] is the groom jealous?
- Reza Naiyeer: Jealous? It's not a question of jealousy, it's a question of what I'm comfortable with. All my brothers have married women that haven't been with another man before. That's what my family expected from us all
- Kate Warner: [Sarcastically] oh I see, instead they have to settle for Marie, which is what "damaged goods"?
- Marie Warner: [to Kate] alright let him bait you. His just trying to push our buttons
- Marie Warner: [to Reza] I got this guy wrapped around my little finger and he knows it
- Jack Bauer: [after putting his jacket on a chair] tell me about the regional cells
- Michelle Dessler: [while handing him a file] the most promising one is headed by Joseph Wald
- Jack Bauer: Joseph Wald?
- George Mason: Yeah Wald's been linked to a terror group called Second Wave. That's why it had to be you, you put in time working undercover with him
- Jack Bauer: I put him in jail
- George Mason: Well, his out on appeal
- Michelle Dessler: His actually waiting trial right now on new charges if his convicted, he goes away for life
- Jack Bauer: What's Wald's connection to the bomb?
- George Mason: NSA established meetings between him and alleged members of the group behind the threat
- Jack Bauer: Why didn't you guys just pick Wald up?
- George Mason: We haven't been able to track him down yet
- Paula Schaeffer: His not at any of the addresses in his file
- Jack Bauer: Are there any key witnesses against Wald in his upcoming trial?
- George Mason: There's one
- Paula Schaeffer: Marshall Goren, apparently without him there's no case
- Jack Bauer: Good bring him in
- George Mason: Here? What for?
- Jack Bauer: You want me to reestablish my cover with Wald right?
- George Mason: Yeah
- Jack Bauer: Normally it takes six weeks you want me to do this in what? Under two hours? Where's the FBI holding Goren?
- George Mason: Right here in downtown under protective custody
- Jack Bauer: Good. Bring him in: now
- Kate Warner: [Over the phone] what's up? Get my check?
- Ralph Burton: Yes I did. That's the not reason I'm calling. When you asked me to do a background check on Reza Naiyeer, you were concerned about his financial integrity?
- Kate Warner: Right, and the report you showed me said I had nothing to worry about, has something changed?
- Ralph Burton: Not exactly, he hasn't done anything wrong at your father's company and his financial dealings in the past have been legitimate
- Kate Warner: Oh, great, what's the problem?
- Ralph Burton: I was proofing another individual at my company: Reza's name came up
- Kate Warner: Yeah so?
- Ralph Burton: It's a man named Syed Ali, his an international financer with ties to several terrorist organizations
- Kate Warner: What're you saying? Reza knows this guy Ali?
- Ralph Burton: Well, according to this file, they've had dealings
- Kate Warner: Oh my God
- Ralph Burton: Now look before we jump to any conclusions its possible Reza's business with Ali was legitimate and Reza didn't even know Ali's terrorist connection but if you want to know for sure I'm going to need your help
- Kate Warner: What'd you need me to do?
- President David Palmer: [to his staff] let's not waste time: I don't want my decisions based on speculation, before I read up on any report you write up today, I want the sources and the reliability doubled checked
- Lynne Kresge: Mr. President, did you set up a COMM with the Joint Chiefs regarding response?
- President David Palmer: No
- Lynne Kresge: I didn't think so and the Secretary of State called and their expecting to speak to you in five minutes
- President David Palmer: Cancel it
- Lynne Kresge: Yes sir
- President David Palmer: I thought I was clear earlier that we are not to burn time and energy on response
- Eric Rayburn: Of course
- Eric Rayburn: Then why is there a conference call set up with the Joint Chiefs?
- Eric Rayburn: Oh, I put that in place in case you changed your mind, it takes time to coordinate
- President David Palmer: Don't second guess me. Today's going to be a very long day and I don't want my own people working against me
- Eric Rayburn: Sir, I would never work against you
- George Mason: [Over the phone with the FBI] Goren's going to be here any minute: you have my word he'll be back in your custody within the hour
- Jack Bauer: [after hanging up the phone] my pal's at the FBI aren't too happy Jack. Goren's the state's only witness against Wald so I suggest you get what you want and fast so I can get them off my back
- Jack Bauer: [Ignoring George, to Michelle, pointing to the computer screen] hold on, what's that?
- Michelle Dessler: It's saying the reason you didn't do any time in California is because you were extradited to Florida on two counts of armed robbery
- Jack Bauer: No, don't make it "armed robbery", that's not how they knew me. Make it "conspiracy to transport illegal explosives"
- Michelle Dessler: Got it
- George Mason: Jack, are you going to let me in on your plan here?
- Jack Bauer: [Continuing to ignore George, to Micelle] I also need you to get in touch with Rudy Colhed. He's a parole officer out of Hollenbeck. I want you to brief him and put him in my cover
- George Mason: Jack, look at you. You look like a bum off the street. You're not talking to me I just confiscated a witness outside my authority based on your call. Now are you going to tell me what you're doing?
- Jack Bauer: [Sternly] no
- George Mason: Are you losing it Jack? Because I need to know. I just don't have the time and resources to clean up your mess today
- Jack Bauer: I'm not losing it
- Jack Bauer: [to security while they escort Goren in] just put him in the chair
- Jack Bauer: Michelle, please excuse us
- Michelle Dessler: Well don't you want me to...?
- Jack Bauer: [Interrupts her] no
- Jack Bauer: [while placing a file folder on the table] you are Marshall Goren
- Marshall Goren: Yeah
- Jack Bauer: [Listing his criminal offenses] eight counts: kidnapping a minor. Two counts child pornography. First degree murder
- Marshall Goren: [Amused] yeah, they look I already made my deal. I don't need to hear this noise, all I got to do is testify against Wald and I walk
- Jack Bauer: [leaving a message for Kim after she abruptly hung up on him, warning her of the terrorist threat] honey, it's me. Look, I'm not trying to upset you, if you don't want to leave with me, fine but you've got to get out of Los Angeles. It's not safe for you here, I don't want you to talk to anybody, just go to aunt Carol's, ok? I'm gonna call her now and tell her that you're coming. When you get there, phone me on my cell phone, please sweetheart, just do this for me... please
- Jack Bauer: Hey, sweetheart
- Kim Bauer: Dad, what're you doing here?
- Jack Bauer: I just want to say hi. You haven't been returning my phone calls
- Kim Bauer: I'm sorry
- Jack Bauer: Look, you don't have to worry. I didn't come down here to ask you to lunch or hang out. I know you just started this job sweetheart, I just wanted to see you. I miss you.
- Kim Bauer: I know. I miss you too.
- Jack Bauer: Then why won't you...
- Kim Bauer: [Interrupts him] every time I see you I think of mom
- Jack Bauer: No honey please...
- Kim Bauer: Sweetheart all I ever wanted was for three of us to be together
- Jack Bauer: I know you did. It wasn't your fault
- Jack Bauer: I know it wasn't my fault
- Kim Bauer: I'm still not ready yet
