Sister Wendy's The Story of Art may singly be counted as one of the best movies art history has ever seen. To any true art connoisseur it is apparent that Sister Wendy has both a strong enthusiasm and complete knowledge of all aspects of art history. Rather than monotonically drone on about the historical period and artistic considerations of each masterpiece, Sister Wendy livens what could be a boring subject with her excellent character. She brings in both her own opinions and those commonly accepted by well-known scholars. Her nun's habit, buck teeth, homely appearance, and various speech impediments serve only to increase the viewer's enjoyment of such knowledge. I cannot think of a better way to study the history of art than from the passion and occasionally loopiness that is Sister Wendy's The Story of Art.
