The director that epitomized the 1970’s, Joseph Sargent, has sadly passed away. (1925-2014)
With a career lasting 50 years, Sargent brought to the big screen such thrilling cinema as The Taking Of The Pelham One Two Three, MacArthur, White Lightning and Colossus: The Forbin Project.
Directors Guild of America President Paris Barclay made the following statement upon learning of the passing of director Joseph Sargent:
“When it comes to directing Movies for Television, Joe’s dominance and craftsmanship was legendary – for the past 50 years. With eight DGA Awards nominations in Movies for Television, more than any other director in this category, Joe embodied directorial excellence on the small screen. He was unafraid of taking risks, believing in his heart that television audiences demanded the highest quality stories – whether chronicling uncomfortable historic events like the infamous Tuskegee syphilis study in Miss Evers’ Boys, or compelling personal stories about inspiring individuals like...

It's a perfect Lady Edith moment. I'm talking to Laura Carmichael a couple weeks back during the Television Critics Association press tour and early in our interview, she has to pause and take a call. She's all apologetic, but it's Ealing Studios and they've apparently forgotten that Carmichael isn't in England shooting "Downton Abbey," but rather she's Across the Pond promoting the upcoming fifth season. Ooops. That's the kind of thing that just doesn't happen with Lady Mary and Certainly wouldn't have happened with Poor Lady Sybil, rest in peace. But for Edith? Well, she's always had it harder. Lady Edith has reliably been forgotten, sneered at or grumbled about, but she perseveres. "Julian [Fellowes] has a theory that some people in life are lucky and some people are not. And Edith has not been lucky," Carmichael laughs. "But I think, to her credit, it's helped her be a far more...

The award season is now in full swing. This morning, SAG-aftra announced the nominees for the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Nominations and wins at these awards often add to one’s Oscar hopes, so it’s always interesting to see which projects are getting the most attention.
One neat personal note here is that, since I’ve been a card-carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild for 7 years, I get to cast my votes on all of these. Looking forward to that.
And the nominees are…

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including NCIS, Pretty Little Liars, Criminal Minds and Grey’s Anatomy!
1 | How bittersweet was it for Fringe‘s Walter to wax paternal about his new levels of love for Peter just as he gleans that he won’t make it to the end of this story? That said, who else let out an audible squee! when they saw who’d be back in the finale promo?
2 | As fun as it was cleavage to see...

We're starting to get details of American Horror Story's third season. Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson will return for the third story. Ryan Murphy added that he had promised Jessica Lange she'd get to wear some designer gowns to get her to return after playing Sister Jude, so her character this time will be a "glamour cat leading lady."
Meanwhile, the big industry news is that Fox might split American Horror Story's network into two channels. Broadcasting & Cable reports that FX would keep the dramatic content while the new network would focus on comedy (similar to the division between TNT and TBS) and inherit shows like Archer and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The new channel would take over the Fox Soccer channel.
After quitting Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Meredith Viera might be entering the daytime talk show scene.
