A potential writers strike would be incredibly harmful for many in Hollywood, but there’s one sector of the entertainment industry that is quietly optimistic that it could lead to a boom for them: the unscripted television makers.
As history has shown, there’s also precedent for an uptick — from the 1988 strike that led to the creation of Fox’s Cops and the 2007-08 strike, which bolstered unscripted shows such as The Amazing Race and Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Chicago – In the history of “Reality TV” there has been periods of up-and-down popularity, shows that have been around seemingly forever and spinoffs to new styles like “documentary series” as networks like the National Geographic Channel emerged. In all those permutations, producer Stephanie Buxbaum has experienced it all, and has the career and stories to prove it.
Buxbaum began her career as a performer, transferring from classical acting training to the nuts-and-bolts of the show business industry through the University of Southern California. After graduation, she worked in musical theater, but always was challenging herself by learning other dynamics of the film and television business. This led to an associate producer gig on “Big Brother” in 2000, which began her (as she calls it) “unscripted TV show” career.

There is a second reality series project devoted to chronicling a mission to the Red Planet. Leslie Greif’s Thinkfactory Media (Hatfields & McCoys, Gene Simmons: Family Jewels) has partnered with The Mars Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the exploration and settlement of the Red Planet, on an unscripted TV project that would document Mars Society’s year-long Mars simulation in the Canadian Arctic. Thinkfactory had been working with the Mars Society on the project for the past four months. It took the series out to networks last week, with two outlets interested and currently in discussion with the production company. How is it possible that this show has been on for six seasons? Firefly only lasted one and is a masterpiece. Such is the case of cheaply-produced, poorly written “reality” television. Rock icon Gene Simmons stars in Gene Simmons: Family Jewels which is like a bargain basement version of The Osbournes only not as funny and lacking anyone interesting (with the exception of Gene himself).
The first episode of season six opens with Gene’s long time girlfriend having left him. Over the course of the first few episodes, we learn why. With daughter Sophie off to college, and Nick doing his own thing, former Playboy Playmate Shannon Tweed (Gene’s chick of 20+ years) has all of a sudden grown tired of the way the father of her children keeps them in the lap of luxury. It’s like all of a sudden she’s having a revelation that he uses young,...

Los Angeles (Reuters) - Kiss frontman Gene Simmons will marry his girlfriend of 28 years, the actress and former Playmate Shannon Tweed, in an October ceremony, his representative said on Thursday.
The wedding will put a traditional twist on a decidedly untraditional relationship between the hard rock icon and the model that, since 2006, has been chronicled in the reality TV show "Gene Simmons: Family Jewels" on cable network A&E.
The Israeli-born Simmons and the Canadian-born Tweed have two adult children together, Nick and Sophie.
An invitation for the wedding, which will be held on October 1 in Los Angeles, was created that contains drawings of the family done by Nick Simmons and a message by Sophie Simmons.
"There will no longer be a Team Tweed or a Team Simmons but instead a Team Tweed-Simmons," the message read.

On Sept. 23, All My Children‘s final broadcast episode will air on ABC. Thankfully, SOAPnet has announced plans to honor the daytime institution with a two-day, 12-episode marathon of AMC‘s most memorable hours.
For starters, relish in the wonder that is Erica Kane on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7/6c, with a mini-marathon titled “I Love Lucci.” The five back-to-back episodes (one from 1979!) include Erica’s fairy tale wedding to Jack (one of their trips down the aisle, anyway), her daughter Bianca’s difficult coming out, and the realization that she might in fact be a pill addict.

The spark might have gone out when it comes to Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed’s relationship, but Gene Simmons: Family Jewels continues to deliver some sparkling ratings. Last night’s season 7 premiere of the reality show attracted a total of 1.4 million viewers, which was on par with its season 6 premiere in late 2010. The number is at least in part thanks to press surrounding an awkward appearance on Today, during which Tweed regularly insulted Simmons, who she’s been dating for 28 years. Clearly, many viewers appreciate Schadenfreude, tuning in to see the couple’s “unraveling” relationship. See Simmons and Tweed...

It looks like cable network A&E has "hassled the hoff." After only two episodes, David Hasselhoff's reality television show about his life has been given the ax.
Although the network has yet to officially stamp "The Hasselhoffs" as canceled, they announced that they won't be airing any further episodes on television.
"The Hasselhoffs" centered around the former "Baywatch" star, his two adult daughters and their dog. It premiered on Sunday, Dec. 5 with a disappointing showing - only 718,000 viewers tuned in to watch the family's shenanigans.
Meanwhile, "Gene Simmons: Family Jewels" is still going strong, as A&E is currently airing the show's fifth season.

There's a lot of days I like writing Pajiba After Dark, but lately it's been getting a little rough. Seems every other column there's some jackass reminding me that I'm not providing any information that can't be found in a TV Guide (which, by the way when are you writing those comments from, 1990? Who the fuck uses a TV Guide anymore? Isn't there a button on your remote which says "Guide" or are you still changing the channels with knobs while a radiation burn forms on your carpet?) which, duh. I mean, what information do we have on this site that can't be found somewhere else? And then last night I got one of those nutfucks while all of you were over partying on Robert's new column because why? Because he's Canadian? Like that makes him special, seems like every third one of you out there sweats Labatts while riding...

Million Dollar Billy Bob?
Billy Bob Thornton is attached to star in "Pound for Pound," a boxing drama based on a novel from F.X. Toole, the author of the book that became "Million Dollar Baby."
Ron Shelton will write and direct the indie film, which Leslie Greif and Herb Nanas are producing via their Greif Company banner. Elie Samaha will exec produce.
The project centers on the parallel lives of a retired and widowed boxer beset by depression after his grandson is killed in a car accident and an up-and-coming teenage Latino fighter from a difficult background. The lives of the two intersect in unexpected ways. Thornton will play the retired boxer, while producers are out to cast on the younger role. The project aims to shoot in the first quarter of 2010.
Producers say that despite the dark undertones, there remains an optimistic note to the pic. "Unlike 'Million Dollar Baby,...
