Director Mark Racop met John Astin after Astin's Edgar Allen Poe Recital performance. Racop invited Astin to a local Pizza Hut, and the two hit it off so well that Astin encouraged Racop to keep in touch and contact his agent to work together on upcoming projects.
The name is a play on the science fiction novel Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. While it may have little relevance, Rama, in the book, is an enormous unmanned alien craft that is passing through the universe at a tremendous speed with no known purpose and no known destination. While it remains in range, it is studied by humans who must abandon their quest without arriving at any answers.
