Good Featurette on Wells

The H.G. Wells Legacy (2005)

*** (out of 4)

This six-minute featurette is a good promotional piece for Steven Spielberg's WAR OF THE WORLDS but it's certainly not a definitive look at Wells and his career. What's best about this piece is that his grandson Martin Wells and his great grandson Simon are interviewed and share some thoughts and opinions on the legendary author. The grandson gets to speak about a few times that they met and they both talk about the now infamous Orson Welles radio production that started a riot. They also talk about the original film and the impact that Wells' legacy has on people of today. There are even a couple good clips of the two on the set of the film with Spielberg discussing the scenes with them. Fans of the film or Wells should enjoy this featurette even though it certainly doesn't give you a complete view of the writer's legacy.
