A guy unable to function due to his many fears...
planktonrules1 July 2009
A guy is in the hospital waiting room and doesn't seem to remember how he got there. Then, the film switches to what I think happened earlier that day. He's in bed with his girlfriend and they had just made love. Foolishly, he begins to ask her if she faked it and the conversation that he initiated really is dumb. After this scene, the film bounces about--with his parents talking to the camera about their son's insecurities, a conversation between the man and his friend, a strange monologue in a cab, interviews with friends, etc.. The style is really odd and in some ways reminded me of the structure of Woody Allen's TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN. Of course, this was filmed in Chicago and not New York and the film is more serious--but there are similarities--including a leading man that is very worried about things.

For me, the most interesting aspect of the film are his parents. The insecurities in their marriage and tension which results provide the most interesting vignettes. However, much of the film is interesting and thought-provoking.
