Despite being nominated for a Primetime Emmy and winning the People's Choice Award for New TV Comedy, the series was canceled after only one season.
A little over a month after the show debuted, CBS ordered six additional episodes, but they slashed the budget and complained that there were too many characters. As a result, Lucy Punch, who played perpetual outsider Holly Ellenbogen, was quietly fired. The network, however, loved her character's husband and brought him back for a few additional appearances. In a rush to wrap up the primary storylines, the producers decided to work around Holly and wait until the second season to give closure to her character, but the show was abruptly canceled.
Eric Allan Kramer was originally cast as Yonk Allen. Although David Keith reshot all of the major scenes, Kramer is still clearly visible in many shots throughout the pilot.
Jason Ritter and Jesse Tyler Ferguson who play main characters Ethan Haas and Richie Velch are actually distantly related to each other. They are both descendants of the English Baldwin family.
