The Beatles‘ movies contain some of the most unexpected sequences in the history of movie musicals. For example, one of them includes a musical number shot underwater. An actor from the movie explained how that moment came together behind the scenes. The moment in question could have become a lot more risque.
A Beatles movie took on all the band’s eras
Director Julie Taymor’s Across the Universe is a jukebox musical based on the tunes of the Fab Four. It features all of the band’s most famous songs, like “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “Something,” and “Let It Be,” along with more obscure tracks like “I Am the Walrus,” “Girl,” and “Because.” The “Because” is one of the most famous scenes in the movie, as it features actors performing the song underwater.

Exclusive: The End of the F***ing World producer Clerkenwell Films and Envision Entertainment are co-creating a six-part drama series about a working-class teenage girl sent to an elite finishing school.
Swans is now in development as female-led show set in the so-called ‘Swinging ’60s.’ It will include “a rich seam of humour, scandals and singular characters, touching on social themes of class and women’s rights” and “a cast of international characters” that represent the diversity of British life in the 1960s, according to the producers.
The show is from rising writer Amy Mason, and follows 19-year-old working-class east London girl Ally, who joins a posh finishing school when her street trader dad wins the football pools.
The story was inspired by the real life experiences of Mason’s mother and aunt, who both attended a finishing school just as society was changing for women. It marks Mason’s first TV screenwriting project.

Swinging into theaters this weekend is the sequel to 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man. Scripted by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 picks up shortly after the reboot with returning stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Sally Field as well as Dane DeHaan and Jamie Foxx, both new to the series. The sequel exceeded my expectations as Garfield fell comfortably back into the title role.
Peter Parker is just a teenager still trying to find his way less than a year after his powers have been thrust upon him. He has no school for gifted youngsters such as himself to provide peer support. He hasn't had a lifetime to come to terms with his powers under the guidance of a moral compass like Jonathan Kent. Ah, the power of Twitter. Everyone from Jeff Wadlow to Bryan Singer have been tweeting teases from their upcoming movies, and director Marc Webb is the latest to get in on the action.
After pointing toward the inclusion of either Green Goblin or Venom (or both? Neither?) in a recent Twitpic, Webb has followed up that image with something a bit less spoilery. Today's picture features the tagline "#Dramamine" and seems to show an uncompleted set through a camera monitor.
Considering Dramamine is a drug to treat motion sickness, it could be that this picture has something to do with movement. Swinging through the sky on a spider web, perhaps? If we were Andrew Garfield (and/or his stunt double), we'd be itching to get back into the air in this sequel too.

Following the debut of a glowing four-star review that appeared on the web (no pun intended) for The Amazing Spider-Man, some official reviews from across the pond have arrived to mellow our expectations a tad. That’s right, while these early opinions may not be hinting at a superhero masterpiece they are still, for the most part, quite positive.
Even after the perpetually ill reception that Spider-Man 3 received (and continues to garner) the announcement of such a quick reboot raised eyebrows to put it lightly. But production went right ahead and when Sony finally debuted its trailers, most fans still remained with their butts firmly on the fence.
Since then, a flood of footage (not dissimilar to the volume offered by The Avengers) has finally seemed to connect (if not unequivocally) with audiences. The buzz is pretty high right now for the film and the last thing Marc Webb...

Swinging into a theater near you July 3 2012, and into Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man now has a trailer. Starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Denis Leary and more, this is your first official, moving look at the highly anticipated 3D superhero reboot. Check it out after the jump. Thanks to The Movie List [1] (via The Film Stage [2]) for getting the trailer up first. And Yahoo [3] for this official embed. What you'll find most interesting about this trailer is the fact how is how it plays up the smaller aspects of the movie. Peter's parents, his awkward social life, and how the origin story looks similar - but all together different - from Sam Raimi's version. As a teaser trailer, though, I kind of wish the trailer was just the point of view stuff at the end.

You don't need Spider-Sense to know that there's a reboot swinging into cinemas next year courtesy of (500) Days Of Summer (2009) director Marc Webb and Zodiac (2007) scribe James Vanderbilt, but given the strength of Sam Raimi's trilogy, the last of which was released a mere four years ago in 2007, perhaps it's time for Peter Parker to take a leaf out of Clark Kent's book and head instead for the small screen.
It wouldn't be the first time the web-head has crawled into our living rooms on a weekly basis. Despite all the hype and hoopla surrounding the Marc Webb-directed "Spider-Man" reboot, a part of me is still sad about all that went down with Sam Raimi. Don't get me wrong, I'm intrigued by what Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will bring to the mix, but a large part of me won't let go of Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker — and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, for that matter.
When MTV News caught up with the former Ms. Mj recently to promote her new movie "All Good Things," I couldn't help but ask what her advice would be for the new Spidey leading lady, Emma Stone, as well as her thoughts on Sony moving on with the franchise without Raimi and Maguire.
"Get used to acting to nothing," advised Dunst, laughing. "[There is] a lot of that. Swinging, and acting to nothing."

Andrew Garfield Brings A New Responsibility and Vulnerability to Sony’s Spider-man/Peter Parker Role
After one of the most talked about, blogged about, speculated casting decisions on the planet we finally have the new Peter Parker/Spider-man in Andrew Garfield. Swinging back onto the big screen in 3D on July 3, 2012 is a whole new take on the classic webslinger hero, Spider-man. The film will begin production in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.
So what does Andrew Garfield bring to such a coveted role? Well look no further than his physical appearance for one. Presumably Vanderbilt’s script used Brian Michael Bendis’ Ultimate Spider-man narrative as a backbone and foundation for this reboot. What that does is paint a picture of Peter Parker in a modern contemporary high school setting while coping with his powers. Parker is modern looking computer geek, wiz kid...

London -- Commercial web ITV's production and distribution division ITV Global Entertainment has sealed a development and distribution deal with British indie production banner Monkey Kingdom, the parties said Thursday.
The deal, described by the two as exclusive, will see the ITV division back Monkey's push into drama with support for a development slate of projects for U.K. and international broadcasters. The two will handpick projects on a case-by-case basis to work on.
No financial details were disclosed, and ITV declined comment on the time frame for the arrangement.
Monkey managing director David Granger said the deal with ITV is a sound commercial move.
"Whilst many bemoan the fact the scripted world is going through a difficult stage, to us it feels more like the time's right for a new creative and commercial approach," Granger said.
