Jerry Seinfeld’s highly touted (and largely panned) feature directorial debut, “Unfrosted,” spent four days leading Netflix’s top 10 movie chart before another Netflix original, “Mother of the Bride” starring Brooke Shields, took the slot before the thematically appropriate weekend holiday.
“Unfrosted” led for just four days, with “Shrek” from 2001 leading midweek before the debut of “Bride.” The Dreamworks animated classic is still in second place, while Seinfeld’s Pop-Tarts comedy dropped to fourth.
“Bride” comes from director Mark Waters. Perhaps best known for his “Freaky Friday” remake and the original “Mean Girls,” Waters went on to direct “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” “Vampire Academy,” and “Bad Santa 2.” In the new rom-com, Shields is a mom who realizes the father of her future son-in-law broke her heart decades ago.

Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton entering into a unique arrangement, J.Lo fighting evil artificial intelligence, the roasting of an NFL legend, a retelling of the invention of the Pop Tart, Brooke Shields and Benjamin Bratt at war and John Mulaney’s six-night live comedy event from Los Angeles are some of the big titles hitting Netflix in May.
Debuting on May 3 is Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, Unfrosted. The comedy legend works both sides of the camera for this humorous feature take on the birth of the Pop Tart. The movie is set in 1963 as breakfast cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post compete to become the first company to create a morning pastry. Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan and Amy Schumer also star, with Hugh Grant more than likely to steal the whole film with a turn as Tony the Tiger.

As summer approaches (for the Northern Hemisphere at least), Netflix is set to premiere a fresh season of one of its biggest hits.
Brigerton season 3 is set to arrive on May 16 and will debut a “new crop of debutantes” into the regency drama fray. Other original series of note this month include Indian drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (May 1), the Jeff Daniels-starring A Man in Full (May 2), and intriguing Korean title The 8 Show (May 17). Of course, Netflix is also rolling out a suite of true crime docs and docuseries as well. Chief among those options is Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal on May 15.
It’s the movie side of things where Netflix is feeling particularly lively though. May 3 sees the arrival of Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart comedy Unfrosted. That will be followed by rom-com Mother of the Bride (May 9) and the Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas (May 24).

Prime Video’s big February drop is Mr. & Mrs. Smith! No, not the 2005 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie action movie, but a new TV series kinda based on it starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. The set up for the show version? Glover and Erskine are two strangers who both get jobs at a shady spy agency and are asked to get married so that they can pretend to be a couple undercover, but things get more complicated when they start falling in love for real. Uh oh!
If you’re in the mood for a movie or two this month, you can also check out the Prime debuts of Strays, Bottoms, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. In the meantime, here’s everything coming to Amazon Prime Video and Freevee this month. Amazon Originals are accompanied by an asterisk!

It’s almost the end of another year…another grueling, relentless, shuffle around the pitiless sun. But before that: more content! HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2022 is filled with a handful of exciting original TV series.
December 2022 truly is TV’s time to shine on HBO Max. Things get started on day one with the release of Gossip Girl season 2 (Dec. 1). That will be followed by His Dark Materials on Dec. 5. Adapting The Amber Spyglass, this season promises to be the most action-packed yet for the BBC/HBO fantasy collaboration. December 8 sees the arrival of Doom Patrol season 4. This DC comic property doesn’t have the cultural cache of some of its CW contemporaries but when it’s rolling, it might be one of the best comic series around.
Now that Warner has mostly scuttled its simultaneous streaming/theatrical release strategy, there aren’t many big original movies to speak of.

If there is one thing that becomes crystal clear as you watch “Deadly Women,” it is that crime has no gender. This crime show focuses on acts of crime — murder primarily — committed by women, which explains the title.
“Deadly Women” comes highly rated among TV series within the crime documentary genre — like “American Crime Story” and “Homicide Hunters.” If you love crime documentaries then this has got to be on your watch list.
Currently, “Deadly Women” just finalized its fourteenth season — the finale aired on September 9, 2021.
Will there be another season of “Deadly Women?” This article discusses that as well as other interesting info you need to know.

It’s a problem that has plagued countless kids’ movies — and more than a few grownup ones — over the course of film history: The villain is conceived and performed with such lip-smacking relish that the nominal hero seems a simpering drag to be around by comparison. Conscious of that perennial imbalance, “The Bad Guys” takes a simple solution and multiplies it, making a sympathetic protagonist of not just one supposedly dastardly antagonist, but several. Taking five anthropomorphised animals generally portrayed as violent terrors in the cartoon world — led by a big bad wolf, no less — and centering them as a chummy, lovable criminal collective, this bouncy debut feature from French animator Pierre Perifel gets a lot of value out of that neat high concept. As it steers them to the right side of the law, however, it still can’t convince us that good guys have more fun.

Movie fans focused on VOD value this week — an easy choice, with no new major releases. (That will change in a few days with the Warner Bros. original family title “Scoob!” at $19.99.) Sony’s “Bloodshot” opened the last weekend theaters operated, became a $19.99 premium VOD offering a few weeks later, and last Tuesday it dropped to $5.99. It now stands in the top three for all of our reported charts, including #1 at Amazon Prime, and #2 at FandangoNow which ranks by amount paid, not transactions.
“I Still Believe” dropped its prices to $5.99 this week, and their chart placements improved. This flags a potential issue: How many people will get used to holding off for a few weeks, in exchange for seeing the price drop by 60 percent or more? Many of these viewers were content to wait three months after initial theatrical play, so delaying rental for a month might not be a tough choice.

Netflix has confirmed that 50 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in May. Leading off the lineup are Ryan Murphy‘s limited series “Hollywood” and the debut of the comedy series “Space Force,” which reunites “The Office” star and creator Steve Carell and Greg Daniels. It’s the first day of May, and Netflix is already knocking it out of the park with a big content drop to keep you busy while you’re stuck inside. Tons of great new movies and shows have landed on the service today, including plenty of wonderful classics you’re going to want to check out.
Perhaps most notable is the inclusion of Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II, which will be joining the third film to round out the trilogy. This time-traveling classic would make for excellent weekend family viewing alongside Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and its more modern adaptation, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
While those films are suitable for families, you can rest assured that Netflix has you covered on children-specific content, too. Your little ones will be happy to see multiple Thomas & Friends titles and the animated sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,...

Hulu is out with its list of everything that’s coming and going from the streaming service in April, which should come in handy assuming we’re all still in isolation next month due to coronavirus.
The third and final season of “Future Man,” which stars Josh Hutcherson, Eliza Coupe, and Derek Wilson, will be available on April 3.
That same day, a new episode of Hulu’s monthly episodic anthology “Into the Dark” drops. April’s installment is called “Pooka Lives,” and follows a group of thirty-something friends who create their own Creepypasta about Pooka, but don’t like what they find once the thing goes viral.

This year’s Oscar best-picture winner “Parasite” will also start streaming April 8.

Netflix has confirmed that 26 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in November. Leading off the lineup is the eagerly awaited Martin Scorsese crime drama “The Irishman” starring Academy Awards champs Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. You’ll have to wait till the end of the month to see that Oscar frontrunner.

Skydance Animation head John Lasseter and his CEO David Ellison have named longtime executive Holly Edwards as president of the division, Variety has learned.
Edwards replaces outgoing president Bill Damaschke, and will serve as Lasseter’s right hand in business dealings, as the former Pixar head sets his creative goals, an individual familiar with the company said.
Skydance, owned by Oracle heir David Ellison, declined to comment on the matter. Edwards’ promotion was announced at an informal company meeting on Thursday. She previously served as head of production. The hire marks one of Lasseter’s first choices as leader of the division. Lasseter’s own hire was met with backlash in Hollywood in light of accusations of misconduct against him during his time as Pixar CEO.

Netflix has announced the list of films that will be available to stream in July. The list includes new never-before-seen original films, as well as documentaries, comedies, animated titles and some classic movies. Check out some of our favorite new offerings below, along with the complete list of all the new additions.

1. “To the Bone” (available July 14)
Marti Noxon’s feature directorial debut was a hit out of Sundance, where the Lily Collins-starring drama about eating disorders won over audiences for its nimble ability to tell a compelling dramatic story interspersed with well-earned humor. Sketched from Noxon’s own experiences with anorexia and bolstered by a star turn from the always-reliable Collins, the film is both important and entertaining, and it should be able to reach a very wide audience on the streaming platform. Do not miss it.
2. “Punch-Drunk Love” (available July 1)
Paul Thomas Anderson’s lauded 2002 romantic dramedy features Adam Sandler in one of his few “hey, this guy can really act!” roles and includes some of the auteur’s most indelible shots and richest observations about life and love. It’s a modern classic, and now it can be piped right into your home. I’m lookin’ at your Netflix queue and I just wanna smash it. I just wanna fuckin’ smash it with a sledgehammer and squeeze it. It’s so pretty.
3. “Chasing Coral” (available July 14)
Jeff Orlowski won the U.S. Documentary Audience Award at Sundance earlier this year for his newest feature, a stunning documentary about the fight to protect coral reefs from becoming extinct. Featuring breathtaking and distressing underwater footage, the movie puts into perspective just how endangered coral reefs are and tracks the effort to save them.
4. “Lion” (available July 9)
This heart-wrenching true story was an awards season juggernaut earlier this year, featuring stellar turns from Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel. Based on the unbelievable life of young Saroo Brierley, the feature follows his separation from his family and his startling trip back to them many years later, aided by — for real — Google Maps and his own indomitable heart. Bring tissues.
5. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (available July 18)
The very first standalone “Star Wars” spinoff follows a motley crew of rogues, criminals, rebels, and scallawags as they attempt to steal the plans to the monstrous Death Star in a bid to really just totally stick it to the Empire and Darth Vader. Knowing how it ends — they get them! and…some other stuff, too! — doesn’t dilute its tension and creativity, and it features a banger of an ensemble cast. Let this one tide you over before the next entry in the rapidly expanding movie universe.
6. “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” (available July 1)
The early part of the month is heavy on kid-leaning classics, from “Free Willy” to “The Mighty Ducks,” but it’s hard to top the potency of Steven Spielberg’s 1982 classic. Gather the whole family around the TV and get heavy on the Reese’s Pieces, and enjoy one of the best films ever made about childhood, friendship, and letting go.

A movie starring Sacha Baron Cohen is being made. Alright now that I have your attention, let me tell you what that movie is going to be. Mandrake The Magician. Yes, I have no idea who that is, and I won't pretend like I'm a Mandrake diehard who can tell you what his first appearance was or who created him. All I know is Sacha Baron Cohen is going to portray the character in a new movie.
The movie is being directed by Etan Cohen, who's only relation to Sacha Baron Cohen is the last name. Don't get mad at me, I read his Wikipedia page, I don't see a single lick of evidence that would prove both men are related, even if I wish that was the case because it'd be cool to have a duo of brothers working on the film with one directing, and one leading. Etan Cohen,...

Deadpool's monster, $132.4 million three-day opening last weekend was the earliest a movie has ever opened with over $100 million by almost a month. Previously, Alice in Wonderland's $116.1 million opening in the first weekend of March 2010 held that distinction. Prior to that, film's didn't cross the century mark in their opening weekend until the beginning of summer. It certainly is a new era as studios are redefining release patterns every month. This weekend Deadpool doesn't face much competition in the way of new releases and will retain the number one spot handily. The weekend's three new wide releases vying for a spot below Deadpool include Sony's faith-based feature Risen, Focus' Jesse Owens biopic Race and A24's period horror The Witch. Beginning with number one, history shows that when a film opens with over $100 million it tends to drop, on average, around 54.3% in its second weekend. Films that score an "A" CinemaScore or higher,...

As part of its restructuring announced today, DreamWorks Animation will be shutting down Pdi/DreamWorks, its computer animation production company in Redwood City, CA. Half of Pdi’s 450 workers will lose their jobs; the others will be offered positions at the Dwa campus in Glendale.
DreamWorks Animation acquired a 40% stake in Pacific Data Images in 1995 and completed the buyout following the success of 1998’s Antz, renaming the company Pdi/DreamWorks. It would go on to produce Shrek, Shrek 2, Madagascar, Shrek The Third, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and Penguins Of Madagascar. Shrek won the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2002, and How to Train Your Dragon 2 has been nominated this year.

Final Update Monday, 1:08Pm: As expected, Big Hero 6 cruised to the top of the box office weekend. Not so expected: Chris Nolan’s saga Interstellar fell short of $50M. Distrib Paramount insisted that the sci-fi genre and film’s record IMAX run would keep Sunday drops to a minimum and help the weekend become one of only four ever feature two moviesing open north of $50M. But it fell short.
Not an issue for BH6, which landed right within estimates and, given the dearth of family fare and its strong exits, should have a solid run into Thanksgiving. It’s exits are terrific, it’s got an A CinemaScore, and kids are notorious repeat viewers,.

Even though Christopher Nolan's $165 million "Interstellar" sci-fi film was expected to dominate at the domestic box office, it had to settle for second place to Disney's $165 million animated "Big Hero 6," which is based on a Marvel comic book. "Big Hero 6," which has a 91% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, grossed $56.2 million, marking another victory for Disney Animation Studios after "Frozen" and "Wreck-It Ralph." The movie earned an additional $23 million overseas for a worldwide debut of $79.2 million. "Interstellar" grossed $50 million, making it only the fourth time in history that two films opened to $50 million or more. In all three previous instances, they were an animated and live-action movie . "Monsters University" and "World War Z"; "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" and "Prometheus"; and "Wall-e" and "Wanted." And in all three cases, the animated film won. "Interstellar" has a running time of 169 minutes, Nolan's longest film, which no doubt hurt the movie's box office.

Taken 3 has been renamed Tak3n, in a move that surely signals the end of days is nearly upon us. Inspired by the likes of Se7en, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Cradle 2 The Grave, and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, those behind the change obviously feel that this titular rejig was worthwhile. I just can.t figure out the reason why. It.s been a pretty busy week for those involved in the third instalment to the explosive series. Just a few days ago, a whole host of new images for Taken 3 . sorry, Tak3n . that.s going to take a lot of getting used to . were thrust upon us. Those were joined by Liam Neeson and Forest Whitaker waxing lyrical about Bryan Mills. return. Tak3n won.t revolve around Mills hunting down kidnappers who have snatched his second-cousin half-removed though, which is what was expected after the first...

Still need some inspiration to live a greener lifestyle? Look no further than these eco-disaster movies, which give a glimpse at what could happen if we don't take better care of our earth. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa gives a lighthearted take on this, telling the tale of a group of wild animals who find themselves in a bind when their plane crashes in Africa. That bind becomes even bigger when they discover that a nearby watering hole has dried up due to selfish tourists. An Inconvenient Truth, meanwhile, dishes on the state of the environment in a more blunt, alarming way with former Vice President Al Gore detailing the dangers of global warming in the documentary. If the latter doesn't...

The last two screenwriting credits for Etan Cohen were last year.s Men in Black 3 and 2008.s Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, but to me his best work will probably always be co-writing 2008.s balls-out hilarious Tropic Thunder for Ben Stiller. His directorial debut, unfortunately, sounds like it.ll be completely forgettable, despite the fact that he.ll be working with two of the most popular comedians in the business. Variety reports Cohen as signed on to direct the Warner Bros. comedy Get Hard, which will star Will Farrell and Kevin Hart, two guys that could be in a laxative commercial and people would pay money to go and see it. Get Hard, which will almost definitely see a name change before it gets released, will follow a wealthy investment bank manager who gets popped for a crime he wasn.t responsible for, and he gets coached for the prison...

After finding success as a writer with the likes of King Of The Hill, Tropic Thunder and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Etan Cohen is looking to direct a film. His latest project is Get Hard, which boasts Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, and Cohen's planning to direct.Despite that snigger-trigger title, it’s not some Walk Hard-style spoof of Boogie Nights. The plot finds Ferrell playing a nerdy investment bank manager who is screwed over by a rich client and framed for massive fraud. When he can’t wriggle out of the unfair charges, he hires the streetwise guy normally found washing his car (Hart) to train him up to be tough before his stint in prison.Though it sounds like one of those notions that has been done many times before (Rob Schneider’s 2007 film Big Stan has a similar riff), Warner Bros. will be hoping that Ian Roberts...

Vince Vaughn has a fairly busy schedule – with less than a month to go before The Internship release, he signed on to the Etan Cohen film, Daddy’s Home. The new comedy that already has Will Ferrell attached to star will be Cohen’s directorial debut. Etan, not Oscar-winning dark comedy filmmaker Ethan Cohen, screenwriting credits include Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and, most recently, Men in Black 3. Therefore, Vaughn is set to join Old School co-star Ferrell (also great comedic rivals in Anchorman) in the Paramount comedy, which Ferrell’s producing with frequent collaborator Adam McKay. Nice. Besides, Cohen, McKay, Brian Burns (Entourage),...

Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell definitely have a proclivity towards working together. Between Old School, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Wedding Crashers and Starsky & Hutch, the two comedians have shared plenty of time on-screen. And today we've learned that they're about to add to that total. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Vaughn has joined the cast of Daddy's Home, the new comedy from director Etan Cohen that already has Ferrell attached to star. The script is about "a mild-mannered radio executive" (Ferrell) who wants to be the best stepfather he can be to his wife's children. This becomes complicated when their deadbeat biological father (Vaughn) returns and forces the protagonist to fight for the kids' affection. While the movie will be Cohen's directorial debut, he has had a solid career in Hollywood with the pen. His previous feature credits include Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and,...
