Well, folks, 2011 is officially in the can, and surprisingly it wasn't such a horrendous year. It was definitely better than 2010, which was a huge step up from the putrid 2009. We laughed, we applauded, we were left dumbstruck, and of course we were infuriated. Read on for our cheers and jeers!
Now, with a fresh movie-watching start before us, we're taking our usual yearly look back at the good, the bad, the Wtf, and everything in between.
And don't be lazy by just reading along! Get off of your asses and give us your lists in the comments section below. We wanna hear from you if only to compare notes. Lots and lots of notes.
Speaking of notes, the most common complaint we've heard over the years is that we don't have one definitive list representing Dread Central as a whole so for 2011 we dropped everyone's choices in the blender, hit puree,...

In a good sign of things to come, the first folks cast in Fox's fourth Wrong Turn film are officially its inbred mutants! Hopefully this emphasis on killer over the meat for the beast roles carries over into the tone of the film. They are the reason we'll be watching after all.
I miss the days when the killers were the stars of the show. Still, I'm probably just reading into nothing at all, as a means to be hopeful. According to Winnipeg Free Press the role of "Three Finger" is being played by Sean Skene and "One Eye" is being played by his actor-brother Daniel Skene. Their father, Rick Skene, is the film’s stunt co-ordinator. Rounding out the killer trio is Winnipeg actor Scott Johnson as "Sawtooth."
Also cast are Jennifer Pudavick (Wishmaster III, Wishmaster IV, The Plague) as Kenia, a potential victim, and Tenika Davis.

There's just Nothing like a good old fashioned Clive Barker penned tale of the macabre and terror. The author/filmmaker/artist has been terrifying his fans for decades, and through those years we've seen several film adaptations that have met with varying degrees of success. Sit back, kids! There's another one coming.
The next horror yarn being worked up to head to the big screen will be Barker's Resurrection Man. Writers John Heffernan and Jorge Saralegui are currently penning the screenplay for the film, which is being described as an action thriller. No other details were available at press time.
Saralegui is no stranger to Barker's work as he has produced a few other Barker adaptations including Dread, The Plague, Midnight Meat Train, and Book of Blood.
Look for more on Resurrection Man soon.

Writers Jeff Heffernan and Jorge Saralegui are presently seeking a home for Resurrection Man . The script is described as an action-thriller based on an idea by Clive Barker. Saralegui produced the previous Barker outings The Plague , Midnight Meat Train , Dread and Book of Blood . He was also developing an adaptation of Barker's short story "The Madonna." Adi Hasak and Gasmer will produce Resurrection Man if that project comes to fruition.

Some of us pick up trash on Earth Day. Others choose Earth Day to walk or ride a bike to work. Most of us forget it's Earth Day until the next day.
Fyi - today is Earth Day.
If you're not ready to hop on a bike and don't mind trash, you can celebrate Earth Day by taking in a marathon of zombie movies on TV. Chiller TV is running an all day marathon titled "Recycle Bodies Zombie Movie Marathon". The film selection is impressive:
Dawn of the Dead - George A. Romero's classic... not the crappy remake.
Clive Barker's The Plague - Time to get your James Van Der Beek fix
Evil Dead - Sam Raimi's classic. That alone should be enough to get you to stay home.
Zombie Town - Read our review here. You can probably get yourself something to eat during this one.
The Mad - Billy Zane.

After taking a never-ending train ride from Croton-on-the-Hudson, NY, my buddy and I finally arrived in Montreal, rushed back to his place via the metro to drop off our bags at his apartment and sped off to Théàtre Hall Concordia just in time to catch Fantasia’s 9:45 p.m. screening of Dread, the latest film adaptation from Clive Barker’s Books Of Blood. Coincidentally, I had just recently reread my three-volume American collection of Barker’s excellent and groundbreaking short stories, and so I entered the theater with “Dread” fresh in my mind.
First-time writer-director Anthony Diblasi has worked on Barker projects before, having executive-produced The Plague (also second-unit director), Book Of Blood and The Midnight Meat Train, and with Dread he has taken the core of the source material and expanded upon, altered and rearranged it—to a mixed but overall positive result. Fresh from the Fantasia Film Festival (in-progress in Montreal), we have an exclusive video interview with writer/director Anthony Diblasi of Clive Barker'S Dread. Diblasi has worked in varying capacity on several Barker adaptations, including Book Of Blood, Midnight Meat Train, and The Plague.
The following video was taped at the world premiere of the film, and in addition to the interview features the first crowd reaction. Dread is also the second title announced for After Dark Horrorfest IV, which will hit theaters in early 2010.

Last summer's Montreal cinephiles were treated to the world premiere of Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train at the Fantasia Film Festival. This July Fantasia will follow up on this by launching the hotly anticipated adaptations of the celebrated author's work: Anthony Diblasi's Dread (World Premiere), and John Harrison's Book Of Blood (North American Premiere). If that's not enough, both filmmakers will be in town to host their respective screenings. Book Of Blood UK Dir: John Harrison "The dead pass on their stories carved in flesh to our world". This decidedly adult Clive Barker adaptation merges two short stories from the author's groundbreaking Books Of Blood collection - On Jerusalem Street and The Book Of Blood - into a single feature-length narrative. Regular George A. Romero collaborator, occasional composer of immortal film scores (Day Of The Dead, Creepshow and Tales From The Darkside), John Harrison brings big screen life to Barker's morbid,...

Dread might be Anthony Diblasi's first directorial effort but the filmmaker is no stranger to the twisted worlds of Clive Barker. He acted as assistant director on Clive Barker's The Plague back in 2006 and was not only executive producer on Midnight Meat Train (review here), but is also one of the producers responsible for Pascal Laugier bringing Hellraiser back from the dead in 2011. So Dread should be in good hands methinks.
Synopsis:
Three college students work on a documentary about what others dread in life, with two of the students unaware that their partner is haunted by having seen his parents murdered and wants to learn more about dread in real life scenarios.
A promo featurette for the film was dug up yesterday and brought to our attention by some in-the-loop readers. It contains, what I think is, the first footage from the film which is due sometime in...
