Sheep cheese farmer Gustav Axelsson is temporarily disabled by a fall, so his daughter Monika insists it's time he sells out and retired to a home, expecting the proceeds to pay for her now home in Chicago, where she moves to for a dream job, finally paying off his adulterous 'guilt' for her mother's death. Fiance David Lillenberg delays moving along to take care of Gustav and his farm, which can't afford missing the next cheese delivery or he looses his main contract. He gets help from textile artist Malin Martensson, has an affair with her and realizing what a selfish bitch his fiancee is, David considers to stay in their native country town Barkhult.
