Stephen Amell promised that this week's episode of "Arrow" would make you say "holy s***balls" -- and it certainly delivered. There were several points during "Dead to Rights" when we were inspired to make up brand new curse words.
First of all, let's talk about Tommy (Colin Donnell). In this episode, we finally really got to know him, from his troubled family history to the depth of his bond with Oliver.
(And there was that one thing he said to Laurel (Katie Cassidy): "I have finally figured out why poets have been in business for the last thousand years." Um, swoon. Hello.)
Tommy's mother was murdered during a mugging when he was young, and in the fall-out, his father promptly fell off the face of the earth. While Tommy was always taken care of financially in his youth, he relied on the Queen family for his emotional well-being.

Hello, Sweetie! Doctor Who fans will be thrilled to hear that Alex Kingston has been cast as Laurel’s mother on The CW’s Arrow. If you haven’t been watching it’s a great show and already home to another Who alum, John Barrowman. Captain Jack never did meet River Song, did he? I’m sure they would have gotten along famously.
Here’s the scoop from EW.
Former ER series regular Alex Kingston is joining The CW’s breakout superhero drama Arrow in a recurring guest star role. The British actress will play Dinah Lance — Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) mom and Detective Quentin’s (Paul Blackthorne) ex-wife. Later this season Dinah will return to Starling City to make amends with her family that she abandoned years earlier following the tragic death of her daughter aboard Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) yacht.

Last night, New York played host to the 22nd annual Gotham Awards, honouring some of the year’s finest independent feature films, and a strong part of the awards season that we’re currently in the midst of.
Having debuted at Cannes earlier in the year, followed by a record-breaking release in the spring, Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom has taken home the top prize, winning Best Feature at last night’s awards.
As a huge fan of both the film and Anderson, himself, I couldn’t be happier with the result.
Starring Mark Ruplass, Emily Blunt, and Rosemarie DeWitt, Lynn Shelton’s Your Sister’s Sister fought off very strong competition – including Moonrise Kingdom, David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, and Colin Trevorrow’s Safety Not Guaranteed – to win Best Ensemble Performance.
And the critically acclaimed Beasts of the Southern Wild took home two awards, earning Benh Zeitlin the Breakthrough Director award,...

In the battle of the Andersons, it was Wes who beat P.T for Best Feature at the 2012 Gotham Awards. Moonrise Kingdom would go 1 for 2 as Lynn Shelton’s Your Sister’s Sister easily among the year’s the best, for its natural, on-screen chemistry was handsomely awarded the Best Ensemble Performance prize. Making it an almost all Sundance Film Festival takes Gotham kind of year, in the Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You it’s Terence Nance’s An Oversimplification of Her Beauty which gets an extra boost for theatrical play. Pic was produced by Andrew Corkin who is lining up Jim Mickle’s We Are What We Are for festival play next year.
The heavy favorite in all categories combined was Beasts of the Southern Wild‘s Benh Zeitlin as Best Breakthrough Director and Audience award, while in the Breakthrough Actor category, it’s Emayatzy Corinealdi...

Twenty-five years after it first opened in theaters, "Back to the Future" continues to light up Bob Gale's life. Literally. The franchise creator and scribe keeps a Mr. Fusion prop that has been turned into a lamp.
And, metaphorically at least, Gale has had many an occasion recently to flip on some "Bttf" illumination, as the 25th anniversary of that first film arrived this year. To celebrate the creation of the greatest film ever made in the history of this world or any other world (that's a fact, end of story), Universal has released a special Blu-ray trilogy pack, and Gale has been making the media rounds.
Recently, Gale called up MTV News, and after I stopped drooling into the receiver, we got down to our nerdy business. In a wide-ranging conversation, he spoke about gigawatts and speed limits, prequels and sequels, Easter eggs and quotable lines, Eric Stoltz and Michael J. Fox.
