Propaganda Machine and Religious Right Rejuvenator!!!!
I cannot stress this far enough. This is the saddest excuse for a documentary I have ever seen, and I have realized its exact purpose for even existing. I consider myself a moderate in the political world and I try to be as objective as I can in reviewing films like these, but this is not a documentary, it is a complete and utter instrument of propaganda utilized by the religious networks to remind their viewers about their "faithful" president when he is typically in hot water over some form of scandal or allegations of wrongdoing. The religious network I skim by every now and then is TBN, and it seems like every time they show this "documentary", it corresponds with a recently unpopular decision Bush has made. EX: This film was shown the day after Bush commuted Scooter Libby's prison sentence, immediately before the 2004 election, when the revelations of the NSA Wiretapping program were revealed, and many other scandalous moments throughout the Bush Administration.
Now to the film itself. The "documentary" is exactly as I referred to it earlier, propaganda used for the purpose of reviving the religious supporters of the president when he is in trouble in reality. It is a distraction. The film focuses on Bush's transformation from a sinful, alcoholic, failed oilman into a born-again, cleaned up "leader of the free world". The movie invokes little allegories that are meant to create inspiration and reverence for the man's faith, such as taking time out of his day to allow a boy to give him a Bible. It also emphasizes his family man appearance. These are supposed to be taken at the word of the many religious leaders and advisors who are interviewed. HORSE DUNG! There is mention of Bush turning down money during a campaign because of "ethical conflicts". I think we have all seen in the last seven years that he has been all but ethical. The biggest reason that this represents a propaganda piece is that only about 30% of the film is devoted to Bush's faith, while the rest is devoted to depicting the enemy as "ungodly"! The film talks a great deal about a secular assault on America and it invokes quotes by many notable personalities on the issue. When doing this, the film utilizes a sarcastic voice to depict the quotes against him to personify them as not serious. In contrast, quotes by unstable human beings such as Zell Miller (remember the guy who challenged Chris Matthews to a duel after the Republican convention), are depicted with passion and good connotation. Also the depictions of cases such as Engel v. Vitale (Prayer in Public Schools) is portrayed as a setback of years of culture in America. HELLO! You should read the details of the case. There is no problem with voluntary prayer in public schools, but when a public prayer made to a specific denomination of religion is made, it is not right. But that seems to be how the religious right works. As long as it is their religion that is being promoted, there is no problem! This is how the majority of the movie is played out, not as a promotion of Bush's faith, but as an attack against the people who do not favor the religious right.
This movie was created for the sole purpose of distracting members of President Bush's dwindling base as he slowly digs his own grave, so they will remember who their leader is, despite the true reality of the real world. Expect this piece of rat excrement to be played anytime the president is in trouble with the law or his party needs his base's votes. DO NOT BE FOOLED!
