Patty Maloney, an actress whose 30-plus year career included memorable turns on Little House on the Prairie, Syd & Marty Krofft’s Far Out Space Nuts, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and the Star Wars Holiday Special, has died. Her passing was confirmed via a post on the official Syd & Marty Krofft Facebook page. She was 89.
Maloney stood 3 feet 11 inches and weighed about 60 pounds. Her stature and pantomime stills meant she often worked in costume. And work she did, with memorable roles on some of the most popular TV shows of the ’70s an ’80s.
On her first series, the actress played the furry and funny Honk on the Kroffts’ Far Out Space Nuts, a character who spoke only in horn-like honks. The show was a Saturday morning staple for kids in the ’70s, especially via syndication. She also appeared on 13 episodes of The Krofft Superstar Hour and other of the duo’s shows.

Patty Maloney, the 3-foot-11 actress who played the alien Honk on the Sid & Marty Krofft family show Far Out Space Nuts and Chewbacca’s son, Lumpy, on the long-lamented Star Wars Holiday Special, has died. She was 89.
Maloney had suffered several strokes over the years and died Monday in hospice care in Winter Park, Florida, her brother, Dave Myrabo, told The Hollywood Reporter. “For a little person growing up in a big world, she did everything she wanted to do,” he said.
Maloney did lots of work alongside the 3-foot-10 Billy Barty. The two appeared together in the Wizard of Oz feature Under the Rainbow (1981), starring Chevy Chase, and on episodes of Little House on the Prairie, Charlie’s Angels, The Love Boat, Trapper John, M.D. and more.
Far Out Space Nuts, starring Bob Denver and Chuck McCann as bumbling maintenance workers turned accidental space travelers, aired for one season (1975-76) on CBS.

Honestly, this episode of Elsbeth should have been called “The Mama Bear Mittens Are Coming Off.” There was no holding back on this culturally infused installment from everyone’s favorite Chicago attorney.
For one thing, how adorable was Henry, the tour guide? I don’t know who that actor is, but he is popping up more and more in different shows and movies.
However, the award for the most over-the-top acting on Elsbeth goes to Alyssa Milano. Was her character a little too much? Check the fingernails. But what the actor did with the role was epic.
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
It will be a long time before viewers forget the name Pupetta. Although, that’s probably because the character’s name sounds like a side dish that comes with eggplant parm.

Quick LinksWhat Is 'Raising Hope' About? Why 'Raising Hope' Is Worth Watching
Everyone loves a good family sitcom, right? A feel-good premise, likable characters, and strong humor to balance it all out. Arguably, the biggest family comedy on TV today is Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. That makes sense, as it's set in the immensely popular Big Bang Theory-universe. But if you're looking for a more underrated family comedy to binge, put this early 2010s Fox sitcom on your radar.
Raising Hope ran for four seasons on Fox from 2010 to 2014. It followed a young, single father trying his best to raise his baby daughter with the help of his family. The Chance family was your average lower middle class bunch just trying their best to get by in day-to-day life. Are they the most stable group of characters? Well, not exactly. But they do love each other,...

After years of guest spots and smaller movie roles in the '90s, Timothy Olyphant established himself as one of Hollywood's go-to macho actors in the 2000s. His breakout came in 2004 when he was cast as Seth Bullock, the reluctant camp sheriff, in HBO's Deadwood, where his rugged good looks and hard-nosed demeanor made him a perfect fit for the western genre. After Deadwood's too-short run, he nabbed the role that would define his public persona for years: Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in FX's Justified, a character he'd play for six seasons and a revival series in 2023.
Justified allowed Olyphant to express the full range of his talents, injecting his tough guy character with a dose of sly humor. Or at least, it seemed that way, until the Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet showed a different side of the actor. Rather than a stone-cold badass, Olyphant's Santa Clarita character,...

The best Jaime Pressly movies and TV shows contain an interesting mix of genres but she always stands out when she gets her chance to shine. Presley started her career as a teenager when she got involved in modeling while also training as a gymnast. By the time she was 15, she dropped out of high school and moved to Japan to further her modeling career. This led to her first TV appearance, where she had an uncredited role on Baywatch, which then led to her first major breakout.
In 1997, the 20-year-old Presley was cast as the lead in Poison Ivy: The New Seduction, the third movie in the franchise that starred Drew Barrymore and Alyssa Milano before her. From there, her career started to pick up steam, although she almost found herself typecast in similar roles in movies like Joe Dirt and TV shows like My Name is Earl. Despite this,...

Top 1980s and 1990s comedy writer-producer David W. Duclon, who created Punky Brewster and co-developed Silver Spoons, died Wednesday morning, January 15, after a long illness. He was 74.
Born Warren David Duclon in Rockford, Il, Duclon started his career as a writer on classic 1970s sitcoms such as The Odd Couple, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, The Jeffersons and Diff’rent Strokes.
His first writing credit was on a handful episodes of the The Odd Couple alongside Garry Marshall, who took him under his wing and taught him how to be a showrunner while Duclon worked on his hits Happy Days and spinoff Laverne & Shirley.
Over the next decade, Duclon went on to create a slew of sitcoms of his own. He developed CBS’ 1979 comedy Working Stiffs starring James Belushi and Michael Keaton; co-developed the 1982-debuting Silver Spoons, which ran on NBC for four seasons and another in first-run syndication; and...

Winston, whose producorial career took off with My Name is Earl, was a co-showrunner with Letterman and Stoller on season 1 and is now sole showrunner on the new season.

"My Name Is Earl" is one of those sitcoms that remains beloved to a select group of fans but never really caught on in the zeitgeist in a way like "The Office" or "30 Rock" did. It had a great, heartwarming premise of the titular Earl (Jason Lee) wanting to make amends to all the people he's wronged in his troublemaking life. Earl typically hung around an eclectic group of characters to help (or hinder) him along his journey, and there was the potential for the show to make some big waves had it been allowed to continue.
Sadly, "My Name Is Earl" was canceled after four seasons due to negotiation issues between the network and the studio. It was an anticlimactic development, especially seeing as season 4 ended on a cliffhanger with the revelation that Darnell (Eddie Steeples) wasn't the father to Earl Jr.

Of all the sitcoms that were screwed over by a network, "My Name is Earl" has got to be at the top of the list. The show was basically a cross between the optimism of "The Good Place" and the constant trashiness of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," but whereas "The Good Place" got to end on its own terms and "Always Sunny" got to continue indefinitely, "My Name Is Earl" ended abruptly in season 4.
It's a shame too, because when most people remember the end of "My Name is Earl," they're usually associating it with the disappointing season 3. That season, which spent most of its first half with Earl stuck in prison and most of its second half with Earl trapped in a coma, is a clear example of the show trying its best to shake up a strained formula and getting too crazy for its own good. Season 4 was a return to form,...

Situation comedies aren’t usually known for season-ending cliffhangers. But what makes the occasional white-knuckle episode especially frustrating is when the show is canceled before the payoff, leaving viewers wondering what the hell happened.
Redditors on r/Sitcoms recently grumbled about their most aggravating experiences with sitcoms that left them hanging. Sitcoms like…
1 My Name Is Earl
Season Four of My Name Is Earl ended on a graphic that promised, “To Be Continued.” That turned out to be a lie and left many of the show’s questions unanswered. Grrr! In a Reddit Ama in 2013, fans tried to get closure by asking show creator Greg Garcia, “Who was Earl Jr.’s real father, and did Earl ever finish the list?”
Garcia’s response: “We never really got the chance to fully figure it out, but the talk in the writers’ room was that Earl Jr.’s dad was going to be someone famous.

In “Brothers,” Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage play adult twins who’ve been criminal accomplices ever since their jewelry-heisting mom abandoned them as kids.
You hear the pitch for director Max Barbakow’s follow-up to his 2020 Sundance phenom “Palm Springs” and brace yourself for the possibility that the two actors’ mismatched appearances will be the source of the laughs. Screenwriters Macon Blair (“The Toxic Avenger”) and Etan Cohen ( “Tropic Thunder”) have credits that suggest as much, while Hollywood has a history of turning out “high-concept” comedies like “Stuck on You” and “Twins,” for those old enough to remember the ’80s flick in which Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito played long-separated (and far-from-identical) siblings.
It comes as a relief to find that the gap in stature between Moke (Brolin) and Jady (Dinklage) is not at all the difference that “Brothers” intends to focus on. Rather, it’s their mild-versus-wild personalities and...

Norm Macdonald’s most popular impression on Saturday Night Live was Burt Reynolds, the ‘70s action-comedy star who… Wait, what’s this? Mr. Reynolds has entered a new name on the podium. He’d now like to be referred to as “Turd Ferguson.”
“Yeah, that’s right. Turd Ferguson. It’s a funny name.”
By his own admission, Macdonald wasn’t much of a sketch comedian, preferring to stay behind the Weekend Update desk and deliver one-liners. But he made an exception when it came to Reynolds. “I knew that if I did an impression of him it would get a laugh because he has such great comic timing and delivery,” Macdonald told Paste Magazine in 2018 after Reynolds’ passing. “So it was really stealing his persona to get laughs, you know. But I could never figure out a way. This guy that I wrote with, Steve Higgins … me and Higgins...

I laugh when I hear people talk about how “The Bear” is a sure thing winner for Best Comedy Series and that it’s such a lock nothing whatsoever can derail it. Ha! Ha I say! Oh, it’s naturally the heavy favorite with its 23 nominations and has remained the overwhelming frontrunner clear through Emmy season, all right. In the Gold Derby combined Emmy odds, it’s running away with this race. The same is true of ““Shōgun” for drama after its giant haul of 25 Emmy bids. And nothing can beat “Baby Reindeer” for Best Limited Series, right? Jessica Gunning (“Baby Reindeer”) is a shoo-in for limited supporting actress, isn’t she? And no one could possibly beat Jamie Lee Curtis (“The Bear”) for comedy guest actress – could they?
But if Emmy history has taught us anything, it’s that upsets happen, even when it comes to shows and people considered locks.

Join Chip Harper on a hilarious journey to rebuild his doomsday cult in the wild indie comedy, Let's Start a Cult. Director Ben Kitnick delivers big-budget comedy vibes with indie values, featuring a talented cast and a unique storyline. With this film, Star Stavros Halkias continues to prove why he's one of the funniest comedians of the moment.
Have you ever been ditched by your buddies? Just downright ghosted by your gals? It's a sucky feeling, one that Chip Harper knows very well. It's the year 2000 and his beloved cult, The Cosmic Dynasty, has "transcended" (aka suicided) without him. He's always been the black sheep of the freaky family, a buffoonish loser, if you will, and it makes for a hilarious character well-suited for Stavros Halkias, one of the funniest and most charismatic comedians of the moment. Dickey is a revelation as a harder-than-nails woman exploited by the US’s legal guardian system in an otherwise overcooked thriller
The “G” in this low budget revenge thriller is 72-year-old Ann Hunter. That’s “G” as in “Granny”, a nickname given to her by her granddaughter. The joke is that Ann does not fit anyone’s stereotype of a granny. To call her hard-as-nails would be an understatement: nails can bend, but the G is harder, cold, mean and sarcastic. When she reaches for a bottle, dirty washing stacked up around the sink, no clean glass to hand, she pours her vodka neat into an empty yoghurt pot.
The G is played by character actor Dale Dickey, whose TV credits include Breaking Bad and My Name Is Earl. On film, she’s best known for a supporting part in Winter’s Bone, but I have to confess I didn’t recognise her.

Series like How I Met Your Mother and Dexter suffered from disappointing finales, tarnishing their overall legacy for viewers. My Name Is Earl's cliffhanger ending left fans frustrated, as it felt like the show was building towards nothing conclusive. Killing Eve's shift in quality over time culminated in a lackluster finale, disappointing audiences who had been fans of its captivating storytelling.
Often, the legacy of a television series rests on how well it delivers in the end with its grand finale, and sadly, a bad finale can end up ruining the entire show. After years of build-up that audiences followed season after season, witnessing a disappointing finale was truly a devastating turn of events. The final episode of a TV series has a lot to live up to, and through lackluster storylines, nonsensical behavior, or moments that undo years of hard-earned character growth, they can leave viewers dumbfounded,...

Ethan Suplee played Louie Lastik in Remember the Titans, a film about an integrated high school football team. Suplee's character, Lastik, is based on a real person and plays a critical role in the film's story. Suplee's weight loss has affected his acting career, with casting directors not recognizing him for new roles.
Movie fans will remember Ethan Suplee as Louie Lastik in Remember the Titans, but even they will be surprised at what the actor looks like now. A classic of the based-on-a-real-life-story sports movie category, Remember the Titans tells the true story of the integrated T. C. This article contains casting spoilers for all eight episodes of Fallout.
The Fallout gaming franchise presents a big storytelling universe to play in. And that’s exactly what drew showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner to the Prime Video TV adaptation in the first place.
“It’s more creatively interesting to be able to build our own story in the world that they’ve carved out for us,” Wagner told Den of Geek. “That’s historically been the trajectory of Fallout. It’s traded hands many times, with different creative teams taking it over. It’s kept it fresh, kept it relevant. We chose to just vainly look at this as our Fallout.”
Of course, a big storytelling universe also requires a big cast to fill it up. Prime Video’s Fallout isn’t wanting for compelling lead characters thanks to Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul...

Saban Films announced today the acquisition of worldwide rights to the upcoming comedy The 4:30 Movie, directed and written by Kevin Smith.
Set in the summer of 1986, The 4:30 Movie is a coming-of-age story about three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local multiplex. Set in the mobile phoneless, social media-free era of the ’80s, Smith shot The 4:30 Movie at his Smodcastle Cinemas in New Jersey—the same movie theater he haunted every weekend as a teenager. Marshall as Olympia, a senior attorney, and Jason Ritter as Julian, the son of the firm's head. Described as a brilliant septuagenarian who found success in her younger years, Matty decides to join a prestigious law firm where she uses her deceptively unassuming demeanor and clever tactics to win cases. Although a trailer for Matlock dropped last year, the CBS show is already facing an unexpected change.

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Elemental, the Pixar pic directed by Peter Sohn.
Launching with a world premiere as the closing-night film at May’s Cannes Film Festival, Elemental was penned by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel and Brenda Hseuh, based on a story by the writers and Sohn about a fantastical place called Element City, where Fire-, Water-, Earth- and Air-residents live together.
The plot follows the quick-witted and fiery Ember (Leah Lewis), a new arrival to the city whose friendship with go-with-the-flow Wade (Mamoudou Athie) challenges not only her beliefs about the world they live in, but the person she wants to be.
The idea germinated from Sohn’s own experiences; like Ember, he was a second-generation immigrant whose parents moved from Korea to New York City. That starting point helped to form the film’s themes of fitting in to a new place,...
