ZDF, ARD lead TV rivals for German prize
COLOGNE, Germany -- German public broadcasters have again put their commercial rivals to shame, dominating the nominations for this year's German Television Awards, the nation's top TV honors. Pubcaster ZDF led the pack with nominations in 24 categories, including multiple noms for historic miniseries Dresden and telefilm Die Nachrichten (The News). Sister channel ARD was close behind with 21 noms, with such series as multicultural comedy Turkish For Beginners and legal drama Family Law among those singled out. Of the commercial channels, RTL was the best represented, with 10 nominations. While drama and news programming was dominated by the pubcasters, RTL excelled with such comedy and entertainment shows as hit sitcom Everyone Loves Jimmy, about a Turkish-German family, and Let Dance! the local version of Dancing With the Stars.
