That's a little harsh, even if you are referring to Cimino
No, really, I think a restraining order should suffice. This is the shortest of the three featurettes(note that it spoils the very ending of the picture) on the 2-Disc Special Edition DVD of The Deer Hunter, with a running time of just about exactly 15 and a half minutes. It is an interview with the cinematographer who has as cool a name as Vilmos Zsigmond(seriously, does that make anyone else think of the Russian mafia or something?), intercut with clips from the film. He talks about the party, and says out loud what we're all thinking; that it's an extremely long sequence for a movie(and what did it convey that couldn't have been handled in a fraction of the time? If you can't tell your audience "these people are happy" in less than forty minutes, you have poor communication skills). It is interesting to hear him talk about the lighting and such. He is clearly a great talent, and I do appreciate that of these 3, only one of them is with an actor, and the other two are the crew that make it happen(an impeccable performance can't necessarily save poor direction and writing, but the opposite can occur). This is well-edited and keeps to a nice pace, remaining fairly concise. There is a bit of violence and disturbing content in the footage from the flick itself. I recommend this to those who want to know more about the subject. 6/10
