It’s unlikely that anyone was holding their breath for an English-language reimagining of Francis Veber’s 2006 French hit “La Doublure,” a lovable if trite farce in which a porter and a supermodel fake a romantic relationship in order to prevent a PR disaster. But with the help of some doting cultural specificity, a charming cast and sunshiny Los Angeles skies, “Come As You Are” director Richard Wong’s “The Valet” proves that a remake can still be a welcome thing these days, even in a world oversaturated with them.
Written by Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg (the duo behind the “Overboard” remake), this sweet-natured and good-humored rom-com-with-a-twist should easily find reasonable streaming success upon its May 20 launch on Hulu. This version of the story brings its distinctly “Notting Hill” beats to Tinseltown, where the modest and socially awkward Antonio works as a valet, parking the fancy cars of a...

Amazon Prime Video is bowing a new Amazon Original feature-length documentary, “13:14,” produced by Eugenio Derbez and Ben Odell’s 3Pas Studios. The doc, starring content creator and actor Juanpa Zurita, will debut exclusively on Apv next year where it will be available in 240 countries and territories worldwide.
“13:14” follows Zurita’s journey as he leads reconstruction efforts after the devastating earthquake that struck Mexico in 2017 at exactly 14 minutes after 1 pm, hence the title.
When the earthquake lays waste to the capital and various towns in Mexico, Zurita uses his influence to galvanize help from friends that include actors, singers, content creators and several others to raise funds and help in the reconstruction process. While managing to secure the help of Mexico’s leading architects, Zurita and his team’s inexperience in managing a reconstruction effort lead to a series of challenges, including charges of pocketing the funds they helped raise.

Michel Gondry is something of an enigma in the film world, and one who reportedly found himself in an uncomfortable position during and after The Green Hornet. His latest, Mood Indigo, is hitting in limited release on July 18th, and its the film to see this summer, if you get the chance.
Returning to the wonder of his beginnings (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), and taking a lot of notes from the past thirty years of French cinema, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet (and, borrows his favorite leading lady), Gondry’s lastest looks like it could easily be one of the year’s best.
Check out the new clip below, which expands on their meeting, which is hinted at in the trailer above.

Eminently inventive Michel Gondry finds inspiration from French novelist Boris Vian's cult novel to provide the foundation for this visionary and romantic love story starring Audrey Tautou (Amélie, Coco Before Chanel) and Romain Duris (The Beat My Heart Skipped). Set in a charmingly surreal Paris, Duris plays wealthy bachelor Colin, whose hobbies include developing his pianocktail (a cocktail-making piano) and devouring otherworldly dishes prepared by his trusty chef Nicolas (Omar Sy, The Untouchables). When Colin learns that his best friend Chick (Gad Elmaleh, The Valet), a fellow acolyte of the philosopher Jean-Sol Partre, has a new American girlfriend, our lonely hero attends a friend's party in hopes of falling in love himself. Drafthouse Films has released the Us trailer for director Michel Gondry's new film, Mood Indigo. I really enjoy Gondry's work, and he's made some fantastic films in his career such as Be Kind Rewind, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Green Hornet, and The Science of Sleep. He has a very unique and quirky style to the movies he makes, and Mood Indigo looks incredibly delightful. The film is a love story based on Boris Vian's novel, and it stars Audrey Tautou, Romain Duris, and Omar Sy. Here's the synopsis:

French director Jacques Demy launched his glorious feature filmmaking career in the Sixties, a decade of astonishing invention in his national cinema. He stood out from the crowd of his fellow New Wavers, however, by filtering his self-conscious formalism through deeply emotional storytelling. Fate and coincidence, doomed love, and storybook romance surface throughout his films, many of which are further united by the intersecting lives of characters who either appear or are referenced across titles.
Six of Demy’s films are collected in The Essential Jacques Demy. Ranging from musical to melodrama to fantasia, all are triumphs of visual and sound design, camera work, and music, and they are galvanized by the great stars of French cinema at their centers, including Anouk Aimée (8 1/2), Catherine Deneuve (Belle de Jour), and Jeanne Moreau (Jules and Jim).

If you.re a Francophile or just an avid fan of French comedies, you probably know the works of Dany Boon. The celebrated comedian who starred in such sidesplitting movies as The Valet, My Best Friend and Jean-Pierre Jeunet.s Micmacs became a cheered director back in 2008 with the release of Welcome to the Sticks (or Bienvenue Chez Les Ch.tis as it.s known in France). The comedy he co-wrote, helmed, and fronted proved a big hit with critics and audiences in his native land, and even drew the notice of Will Smith, who pondered an American remake. Now, Boon.s looking to follow these achievements with a big breakthrough in America. Deadline reports Boon has recently moved to Los Angeles, and will make his Hollywood debut with The Ambassadors from the Fox-supported production company Invention Films. An ensemble comedy penned by Tripper Clancy, The Ambassadors will focus on...

Gerard Depardieu and Jean Reno are on the lam in Shut Up!
Jean Reno (Margaret) and Gerard Depardieu (Potiche) star in the 2003 French caper movie Shut Up!.
In the comedy, Quentin (Depardieu) is an amiable idiot who drives everyone crazy with his mindless, incessant chatter. After a botched hold-up, he’s thrown in a prison cell with Ruby (Reno), a hard-boiled thief who refuses to speak at all.
After the unlikely pair escape from jail together, Ruby is unable to shake the cumbersome but oddly helpful Quentin. But Quentin might be just the kind of person that Ruby needs when he finds himself pursued by his former gang and the police, both hoping to lay their hands on the 20 million Euros he has secretly stashed away.

Tintin fans are getting excited for the animated movie “The Adventures of Tintin.” James Curran of SlimJim Studios created an unofficial title sequence for the film. Paris -- Marion Cotillard and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy won't be the only Frenchies spending "Midnight in Paris" with Woody Allen with Gallic comedians Gad Elmaleh and Manu Payet tapped for the prolific director's France-based film currently shooting in Paris.
Both will have only small roles, with Elmaleh shooting for three days and Payet for just one. Elmaleh has recently starred in Francis Veber's "The Valet," opposite Audrey Tautou in "Priceless" and more recently Roselyne Bosch's Holocaust drama "The Round-Up" opposite Jean Reno and "Inglourious Basterds" star Melanie Laurent.
Payet, a well-known funnyman on French small and big screens, recently starred in Elmaleh's film "Coco."
The Gallic cast will break bread and fromage with the already-announced all-star cast that includes Adrien Brody, Rachel McAdams, Owen Wilson, Kathy Bates, Elsa Pataky and Michael Sheen in the story about an American family who head to the French capital on business.

PARIS -- The divorce papers were finalized Sunday as the end officially arrived for the three-year joint distribution venture Gaumont Columbia TriStar France.
As the U.S. studio and French major go their separate ways, the Columbia TriStar label is taking on its mother studio's name, Sony Pictures France. Sony's 32-strong team will continue to be run by Eric Brune, with Alexandre Bihn heading up the marketing division and Etienne Reynard head of sales.
From now through the end of the year, Sony will release six films in French theaters including Hostel: Part II on July 11, Daddy Day Camp on Aug. 15 and Surf's Up on Oct. 24, for a total of 15 films in 2007. The studio plans to increase its theatrical output in the territory to 18-22 films next year.
After a successful 2006 boxoffice that featured You Are So Handsome, OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies and The Valet, Gaumont is hoping for a strong second half of 2007 with seven titles including Michel Boujenah's 3 Friends on Aug. 22; Christine Carriere's Darling on Nov. 7, starring Cesar-winner Guillaume Canet; and Djamel Bensalah's Big City, starring only children, Dec. 12.

PARIS - French broadcaster TF1 Group on Tuesday reported a profit of 172.3 million ($220.87 million) for the first nine months of the year, marking a 4.9% drop over the year-ago period despite higher revenue.
France's largest TV group posted a 5.8% revenue gain to 1.89 billion ($2.42 billion).
At the flagship TF1 network, advertising revenue grew by 3.8% to 1.22 billion ($1.56 billion) thanks to widespread public interest in the Soccer World Cup in June and July in addition to strong performances by U.S. TV import CSI, French TV drama Marie Besnard L'empoisonneuse and hit film "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."
However, programming costs for the popular World Cup contributed to a 20.1% decrease in the group's nine-months operating income to 194.5 million ($249.4 million).
TF1 didn't break out quarterly figures, but based on previous financial reports, third-quarter profit came in at 800,000 ($1.03 million), with operating profit amounting to 14.3 million ($18.4 million).
The group's cinema division, TF1 Films Production, attracted huge audiences for such recent co-productions as Les Bronzes 3: Friends Forever, The Valet and Jean-Philippe.
Revenue from other businesses reached 662.4 million ($849.1 million), an increase of 9.6% thanks to profitable partnerships in the media sector.
