"The goal for me, always, is try to make a movie that feels timeless, that people will watch years from now," said "Mrs. Doubtfire" director Chris Columbus in a recent interview with Ktvu.
The character of Mrs. Doubtfire actually has her roots in a real person -- not a recently-divorced father pulling a desperate gambit to see more of his kids, but the owner of a second hand clothing shop in Edinburgh. The shop was called Madame Doubtfire and, colloquially, so was its owner, though her name after remarrying was Annabella Coutts. She was something of a local legend, with one Edinburgh resident recalling that she had "about half a dozen cats" and that while her shop was an excellent resource for high-quality second hand goods,...

Mrs. Doubtfire is returning to the big screen and so is Robin Williams! However, is this a good or bad thing? Why has it taken so long to make a sequel? Come in to read more!
It has been over 20 years since our favorite "manny" graced the big screen and it looks like she/he's coming back for one more time. Today, Fox 2000 announced that Mrs. Doubtfire 2 is currently in development with both Robin Williams and Chris Columbus, who directed the first film, set to return.
The first film, based on the novel by Anne Fine's Madame Doubtfire, was about a struggling actor who is going through a messy divorce. In order to spend more time with his children, Daniel Hilliard (Robin Williams) disguises himself as a female housekeeper and hilarity ensues. In 1993, Mrs. Doubtfire grossed over $440 million worldwide and became an instant classic.

The 1993 family comedy Mrs. Doubtfire is finally getting a sequel. Robin Williams and director Chris Columbus are both attached to return, with David Berenbaum (Elf) onboard as the scribe.
The original film was based on Anne Fine’s 1987 novel, Madame Doubtfire, and also stars Sally Field and Pierce Brosnan. The film followed the misadventures of an unemployed actor, Daniel Hillard, who, following his divorce, disguises himself as an elderly female nanny, allowing him to secretly masquerade his way back into the lives of his children.
This sequel has been in the works for quite some time. Back in 2001, Bonnie Hunt was hired to write the script. But there’s been no success. Perhaps this time things will work out. How do you feel about this sequel?
