A decent movie revolving around dark satire and bad portrayals of rock star lifestyles.

It's not a bad movie per say if you manage to look at it from a humorous point of view. The technicals of the movie were decent, with relatively good cinematography and editing. In terms of BDSM, it's not that at all, I mean there is the gear but no real aspects of the culture are portrayed. No consent, which is the main factor, no power exchange and a dismal portrayal of the after effects. It's almost amusing how wrong they were in their portrayal. There was however, a very surreal feel to the whole movie, that being a huge redeeming factor and lets not forget the dark humour. Practically the whole movie has this deep/dark undertone of satire which makes it somewhat entertaining to watch. The storyline was there though it was a bit weak ending with a few unanswered questions. Overall I'd say it's a pretty good watch if you're not looking to take it seriously. I don't regret watching it but if you don't need to spend money on it that would make it a whole lot better.

Horrible
gothicform4 December 2005
Ahhh this film, it's awful... horrible. Words cannot describe how bad this utter dross is. It actually manages to make Preaching to the Perverted look like a classy piece of work. At the heart of it is some rock star called "stu" who has a record company desperate for him to produce a new album so they kidnap this moronic blond girl for him to abuse. They proceed to get emotionally attached, sort of. It does have a dark streak of humour running through, and somewhere inside is a love story struggling to get out, but the problem is this film is made by someone who has no idea what they are going on about in it. Just as gay films made by straights rarely work, so fetish films done by those of vanilla persuasion don't either and this falls slap bang into that trap. If you want to see a good BDSM film check out the Secretary and avoid this - it's just a seedy moral exploitation tale.

Experimental drama

I saw this movie at the Dances with films festival in Los Angeles and I noticed how the audience was divided in half. Some people HATED it others LOVED it. There is no middle ground for this movie. It's a real mind manipulator. I though it was a thriller but this movie is really a very DARK comedy. I laughed a lot but I was also afraid and repulsed at times. I think lots of young girls should see this movie (specially in L.A.) . It's a horrific moral tale. Perhaps too dark for some people but I am a musician and a young woman so I loved it. It is like being trapped inside a music video nightmare. I've never seen anything like it. It's weird but great. If you have a dark sense of humor. The acting is OK(not great) but the pictures blew me away. It's been a long time since a movie affected me like this. It brings up strong emotions that most of us try to avoid. I guess it's not for everybody but if you have a dark sense of humor and don't mind an emotional assault you'll love it.

Interesting and Provocative Movie is Not For All Tastes
mediaman-104 October 2005
This movie is really engaging, energetic and, surprisingly interesting. I was cruising around the web after I saw this in Chicago at Indiefest (where it won the Best Feature award) and I found out that it had won some awards at another festival in Los Angeles (my home town, where I had surprisingly missed it).

Technically, "Girl in 3D" is a pretty cool movie. It has a strong visual flair that could easily have overwhelmed the movie and left it a shallow and empty mess. But the performances mostly hold up really well and the story refuses to lapse into the obvious. While I am not sure I am charmed by the ambiguous morality of the ending, at least it isn't entirely hopeless and bleak like so many indie films these days. In fact, the movie is quite funny in its own dark way. Although the glee it takes in its sadism isn't at all like the sickness prevalent in the common slasher film, there is still the possibility that this film is going to offend some with a healthy dose of S&M imagery and scenes of psychological and sexual abuse. Still, the scenes are more powerful for what they do not show than what they do, and the context of the scenes does propel the themes of the film rather than being there to shock for shock's sake.

All told, worth a look for those not too faint of heart, especially if they like a healthy post-industrial, quasi-punk soundtrack. Just don't bring the kids or expect a light romantic comedy.

- Brilliant Satire - 🎭
ls-9765028 November 2022
This film is a satire that exposes the abusive behavior that groupies used to get exposed to. This is really a kind of Me Too film that was way ahead of its time and if it angers some people, good. It's supposed to. I also love the theme song Yesterday's Gone by Robert Smith from The Cure. This film looks like it was completed on a shoe-string budget but it looks great. The whole thing feels like you're cornered in a long form music video.

It has a great soundtrack that with a variety of artists including Reeves Gabrels who was the guitar player in David Bowie's band Tin Machine.

The actors are mostly unknown and Coyote Shivers performance is as disturbing as it is brilliant. If you are interested in something experimental and hardcore I highly recommend this dark and angry comedy ...
