New York -- NBC News denied Monday that conservative author Ann Coulter has been banned from the network after "Today" dropped her from Tuesday's program because of breaking-news events.
The Coulter incident garnered huge headlines, which reported that network sources said NBC was not going to allow the frequent guest to appear any more.
That's not true, NBC News said Monday. Coulter's segment was dropped from the schedule because of news that the show was expecting to cover in the Gaza Strip with the Israeli military action there and in Washington with the Obama transition. "Today" had booked former British prime minister Tony Blair. Coulter was to promote her new book, "Guilty: Liberal 'Victims' and Their Assault on America."
Late Monday, NBC said that it had offered Coulter a spot on the Wednesday "Today" show.
"We've had Ann Coulter on 'Today' many times, but because of the news in Washington and the Middle East,...

New York -- Further cuts at NBC News and elsewhere around NBC Universal were carried out Thursday, including layoffs in the Dallas and Burbank bureaus. There are as many as 500 layoffs being carried out.
Among the correspondents who have been let go include Don Teague and Mark Mullen, according to multiple sources. There may be others in the Los Angeles and Burbank bureau.
At CNBC, which is headquartered across the river in suburban New Jersey, there will also be a number of cuts including the hiatus of its primetime show "The Big Idea With Donnie Deutsch."
CNBC sources said that with the economic climate the way it is, a show like "The Big Idea" about success isn't the right topic to be discussing. Deutsch will remain with the network to do monthly specials and longform programming like "The Entrepreneur" and "Collaboration" as well as appear periodically on NBC's "Today."

CNBC has reassigned its head of primetime programming, Bob Meyers, following high-profile ratings disasters like McEnroe and named a temporary chief of the primetime/weekend programming while it searches for a successor. In a memo to staffers Thursday, CNBC president Mark Hoffman said Meyers had accomplished much in his tenure and asked him to work on the "execution of key business initiatives at CNBC." Susan Krakower, who was responsible for developing The Big Idea With Donny Deutsch and Mad Money With Jim Cramer, will serve temporarily as head of primetime.

David Gest has aired his own opinion of the facts surrounding estranged wife Liza Minnelli's fall - he believes she took a drunken tumble in her bathroom. Minnelli initially said she had been drinking when she took the nasty fall back in December, but later insisted she was completely sober at the time and merely fell over her pet dog as she got out of bed. But Gest believes the Cabaret star, who has had alcohol problems in the past, was just injured in an incident which he claims happened often while they were together. In an interview on American TV show The Big Idea With Donny Deutsch he said, "You heard about her falling out of bed. Everybody knows about it and the bodyguard 'called 911'. All of a sudden she's drunk. I don't believe she fell out of bed. I think she feel in the bathroom where she's fallen many a time. But that doesn't matter where she fell. They found her; she'd been drinking."...
