With one week left until The Voice’s season 13 winner is crowned, the Top 8 pulled out all the stops during the semi-final performances on Monday night — including pyrotechnics, circus performers and sky-high notes from the always-soulful Brooke Simpson.
Simpson, who is the last contestant left on Team Miley Cyrus, said her epic performance of Journey’s “Faithfully” was inspired by her real-life relationship with her husband, Ray.
“The lyrics are talking about one person out on the road following their dreams, doing music, and the other person that they’re in love with is being faithful and supportive at home,...

Since we already pretty much knew that The Voice was heading for a Chloe Kohanski/Addison Agen showdown in next week’s finals, there was nothing to do during Monday’s performances by Season 13’s Top 8 but sit back, chillax and enjoy. With last week’s elimination of Ashland Craft and Shi’Ann Jones, the likelihood of a sonic train wreck was greatly reduced. And the remaining singers were ordinarily all, even on an off night, decent. Which of them stood out, though, solidifying for themselves a place alongside Chloe and Addison in the finals? Read on; we’ll discuss.

An epic battle for sexiest male vocalist played out on Thursday's Late Late Show with James Corden.

Nothing like a bit of Foreigner to get Gwen Stefani in the mood!
The 47-year-old singer confessed she has a “makeout playlist” during Monday night’s episode of The Voice.
Watch: Blake Shelton Gets Jealous as Gwen Stefani Fawns Over Singer
The revelation came after Hunter Plake, a contestant on Stefani’s team, belted out Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is” for his Knockout Round performance.
“You took a song that’s actually on my makeout playlist,” Stefani divulged afterwards, before choosing Plake to stay on Team Gwen.
“I told you I knew that song,” piped in her boyfriend and fellow coach Blake Shelton.
The news was Tmi for Adam Levine, who immediately declared, “Ew!” and pulled faces like he might barf.
Luckily, Alicia Keys was more positive. “That’s cute Gwen!” laughed the singer.

Starting its Season 12 Knockout Rounds Monday, The Voice threw a curveball at its contestants, allowing the pairs who’d be competing with one another to keep their spots to watch each other rehearse. Mind you, I’m not sure how big a curveball that really was since they’d all certainly gotten to see what their opponent-of-the-week was up to/capable of during the Battle Rounds. And could it possibly have been any more awkward than sitting on stage and idly observing as your rival sang their ass off in hopes of sending you packing? Anyway, the twist did manage to rattle a coupla vocalists.

The 33-year-old Thor star recently had some fun in the sun in Australia, and luckily for us, shared his adventures on the beach on Instagram. Hemsworth flaunted his incredibly fit physique while running shirtless towards the water, playing with an adorable dog.

Malcolm Earl "Mal" Waldron was born on August 16, 1925 in New York City. His father worked for the Long Island Rail Road. Mal started taking classical piano lessons at age seven and, inspired by his love of jazz, also learned alto saxophone. He earned a B.A. in Music from Queens College, with the G.I. Bill (he'd been drafted in 1943 and served for two years, fortunately not seeing combat) paying for his tuition. He worked in jazz, blues, and R&B contexts and made his first recording in 1952 as a member of Ike Quebec's band. In '54-56 he was part of Charles Mingus's Jazz Workshop and recorded with Mingus. Waldron went out on his own as a leader at the end of 1956 with the album Mal/1 on Prestige and quickly became one of the prolific label's house pianists. The following year he added to his workload the position of Billie Holiday's accompanist,...

And so it is with the album. At 14 tracks on the standard edition, Carey is determined to show us all of her tricks, between her multiple-octave range and her “I’m still really street, R&B” side (not to mention that she can still rock a crocheted bathing suit). The album succeeds in many levels, but on some songs—“Cry,” “Camouflage,” “It’s A Wrap” (a duet with Mary J. Blige on the Deluxe version), the lyrics read like journal entries that don’t...

The wacky teen drama and musical mashup known as "Glee" has been a polarizing topic in the music community since it first burst onto the scene in 2009 with its bizarre plotlines and syrupy pop and rock covers. While some artists have been happy to have the show try their (jazz) hand at their material, others like the Foo Fighters and Blur have been less than impressed with its slick Broadway stylings and publicly stated that they’d never let the program touch one of their songs.
Seventies and eighties rock giants Foreigner have no such qualms. Two of their biggest hits, “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” and “Jukebox Hero,” have both received the "Glee" treatment and the band are just fine with the results. In fact, they don’t really understand what everyone else is so worked up about.

You could always power ballad your way through the 1984 Foreigner song "I Want To Know What Love Is," but Daniel Pierce might give you a more scientific reason behind the question of what makes people find that deep personal attraction, connection or feeling.
"Alienation" was a far more interesting and focused episode of Perception than the premiere, "Ch-Ch-Changes." It tackled the universal concept of love with a unique neurological disorder, while allowing for some good character moments that pertained to the theme of the hour was both charming and entertaining.
And there were Star Wars references.
Daniel is such a fascinating character, intelligent beyond those that surround him, and yet he struggles with his flaws, his desires and everyday life... just like anybody else.
Granted, watching him try and juggle Natalie and Caroline was funny and a little sad as well. It's easy to want everything to work out for him,...

New York — Sting performed in honor of Elton John, Billy Joel sang snippets of Foreigner's hits when introducing the band and Smokey Robinson debuted part of a new song he wrote about Berry Gordy.
The 44th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony was full of star power that included Alison Krauss, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Nickelback, Petula Clark, Wiz Khalifa, Jordin Sparks and a video message from Bill Clinton.
Tyler, Perry, Mick Jones and Lou Gramm of Foreigner, Holly Knight, Jd Souther and Tony Hatch were inducted Thursday into the Songwriters Hall 2013 class in New York City.
John and writing partner Bernie Taupin received the Johnny Mercer award, and Sting kicked off the night with a performance of "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting." Sting also called John and Taupin "my two heroes."
John, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall in 1992, said songwriting is often taken for granted.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how an episode of Saturday Night Live is done. Was it perfect? No, but compared to a lot of what we’ve seen this season, it was downright awards-worthy. Here’s hoping we see a lot more of the lovely Ms. Melissa McCarthy on SNL. The actress, who next graces our movie screens in June’s The Heat opposite Sandra Bullock (a dream team if there ever was one), infused the show with a much-needed energy, giving it her all, even when that all meant face-planting on the sticky stage floor.

Melissa McCarthy was Saturday Night Live’s host, but Peter Drunklage stole the show. If you haven’t seen the episode, yes: that’s exactly what it sounds like. Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage showed up—gray haired and wasted—to Weekend Update to play the brother-in-law of Bobby Moynihan ’s drunk uncle. The pair watch Thrones together, and also share an affinity for scotch, xenophobic rants, and Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is.” It’s as amazing as it sounds. As host, McCarthy specialized in odd (and often ignorant) characters, most hilariously as a woman entering a ham-cooking competition

It's the effervescent, tiara-obsessed Mariah Carey's 43nd birthday! As I've claimed previously, Mariah is the best kind of crazy celebrity because she's half-aware of her hilarious insanity: "This is a woman who loves winking decadence and snide one-liners as much as any drag queen, but because she's such an unmistakable diva and Leona Helmsley-level snob, she's oblivious to how ridiculous her attitudes and self-absorption sometimes are. That is a very exciting spectrum of nuttiness." Yes, I just quoted myself. I speak the truth!
For Ms. Carey's birthday, let's count down her 43 greatest singles, Ok? I've (regrettably) omitted remix cuts, but I'll note here that the remixes of "We Belong Together," "Dreamlover," and "Heartbreaker" may be even better than the originas. Now, onward.
43. "Bringin' on the Heartbreak"
42. "Breakdown"
41. "Never Too Far"
40. "I Wanna Know What Love Is"
39. "Loverboy"
38. "Crybaby"

Glint in their eyes notwithstanding, Terry McDermott says he and his mentor Blake Shelton never had a “devious master plan” for choosing songs to cover during his tenure on NBC’s The Voice.
“We tried not to overthink it,” says the man who would eventually become the Season 3 runner-up. “We just tried to be faithful to my artistry and to the people who were supporting me through the show. I didn’t want to have them all excited about classic rock of the ’70s and ’80s, and then suddenly change it up so much that I disappointed them.”

"The Voice" kicked off part one of the finale with a touching tribute to the victims of the Newtown shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. With candles lining the stage, each of the four coaches, the Top 3, host Carson Daly and some of the former "Voice" contestants from Season 3 held a sign with the name and age of one of the victims as they sang Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah."
It was a moving beginning -- reminiscent of the children's choir that sang "Silent Night" at the start of this past week's "Saturday Night Live" -- and the screen went silent before regularly scheduled programming commenced.
For the final performance night of "The Voice," each of the Top 3 -- Cassadee Pope and Terry McDermott of Team Blake and Nicholas David of Team Cee Lo -- is taking the stage three times: singing a new song, their breakout song from earlier the...

Monday night's The Voice gave the final three contestants three chances to earn fans' votes, as every singer revisited a "breakout" song, sang a new song and performed a duet with his or her coach.
First, however, came a touching tribute to the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy. While singing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," coaches and singers held up the names of those whose lives were lost on Friday morning.
Team Cee Lo's Nicholas David then kicked off the competition with Jerry Lee Lewis's "Great Balls of Fire." Not able to resist a pun, his coach chimed in...

Welcome to The Voice‘s Season 3 finale: Rated Eh…for Excessive Hyperbole!
Shudder as Carson Daly introduces contestant Terry McDermott’s reprise of a Foreigner track by calling it “the song that defined him as a true rock star.” (Wait, I thought he was still a contestant on a reality singing competition!)
Let out an audible “huh?” as Cee Lo Green declares he didn’t know voices like Nicholas David’s even existed anymore — at least until the “spiritual Minnesota soul man” showed up at the Blind Auditions. (Come to think of it, I think PBS may have run a...

"I love, appreciate and adore all women."--Cee Lo Green
I'm going to start this week off by sending bittersweet farewells to two of my favorite contestants this season. Melanie Martinez and Amanda Brown are both unique, bold, entertaining artists. I can't help but feel America really got it wrong this week. But things turn around quickly: Adam offered Melanie a record deal on the spot. And I can surely attest, Amanda, if you just hang in there and keep trying, good things will most definitely come your way.
These are my favorite performances last week:
Nicholas David-Over the Rainbow
It's a good thing Nicholas sang this song second. Cee Lo assigned September to him first and I was certain Nicholas was going home. Then he sang this little diddy straight from the land of Oz. He was personally connected to this song and it showed.
Trevin Hunte-Walking on Sunshine

The final six performers did not hold back on last night’s The Voice. It seems like an impossible task to eliminate any of the remaining contestants. Each performer is top notch in his or her respective genre. At this point, it is like comparing donuts to cookies, both are good and it just depends what you are in the mood for.
The performances were all amazing. Trevin Hunte’s rendition of “And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going” was over the top powerful and had the coaches gushing, including the typically reticent to compliment Christina Aguilera who even offered to take Trevin on the road with her. Nicholas David also shined by interpreting “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” in a way that reinvigorated a song that can other times feel stale. Terry McDermott blew the audience away with “I Want To Know What Love Is,...

Nicholas David - Team Cee Lo - "September"
I agree with Pat's advice to go all out at this point in the competition, especially if you think you're in the bottom half of the Top 6. The issue here was that this Earth, Wind, and Fire joint was one of the worst possible choices to do something like that. Like Cee Lo has done for most of the season, he chose another played out song that was very difficult to make current. It is possible though, because we saw Colton Dixon knock it out of the park and make it relevant on American Idol.

If The Voice‘s Season 3 soul hippie Nicholas David happens to be reading this recap, maybe he can jump down to the comments and prescribe us all a nice herbal remedy to combat anxiety, nausea and full-body jitters. Because no matter which of the Top 6 contestants you’ve been digging for the last few months, there’s no way you can head into Tuesday night’s results-show telecast with total confidence that they’ll break on through to the other side.

Last season, Jamie Lono and I were placed head to head during the Battle Rounds. I met Jamie fairly early in the audition process and we became instant brothers bonding over a shared sense of struggle and survival. I was confronting my fears head on by talking about living with HIV and Jamie was battling his own giants (Jamie was a hundred pounds heavier in high school and lost his family home in a fire). We'd joke and laugh and say things like, "Cee Lo better not make us battle."
In the beginning of rehearsing for our battle song, I Wanna Know What Love Is, we decided we'd do some ultra cool harmonies and make it really hard for Cee Lo to distinguish a winner. However, as the date for our battle approached, something happened; a shift, of sorts. I...

If Breaking Dawn Part 2 is not the end, which characters will take the place of Bella, Edward and Jacob in the potential spin-offs?
When the credits roll at the end of Breaking Dawn Part 2 next month, the sadness in some quarters will be tangible. It will be a landmark moment not only for legions of Twilight fans – the moment they'll all take in the enormity of the Twilight saga, blink twice, realise they spent their formative years squealing at a werewolf's nipples and feel a bit ashamed of themselves – but also for Lionsgate-Summit.
If Breaking Dawn 2 even comes close to matching its predecessors, the Twilight Saga will end up grossing more than $3bn worldwide. That's an awful lot of money by anyone's standards, and it explains why the studio is desperate to milk every last penny from Twilight while it still can. It's been discussed before but, now that the end is in sight,...

How much you get out of Rock Of Ages, director Adam Shankman’s adaptation of the 2006 Broadway musical, depends on two things. The first is whether you love the hair metal of the 1980s, represented in the movie by the likes of Poison, Bon Jovi and Twisted Sister, and the second is whether you consider the likes of Mama Mia (2008) and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert (1994) to be cheese of the easily digestible, light and fluffy Philadelphia variety, rather than hard to swallow, mouldy old Stilton, because Rock Of Ages is essentially Moulin Rouge (2001) with a mullet.
If, like me, you’re a child of the 1980s rock scene (or if you have a familiarity with the scene) then you’ll find yourself grinning every few minutes as the cast sing yet another classic song, whether it be Twisted Sister’s iconic I Wanna Rock, Bon Jovi...

Going to the movie theater can be a taxing experience. Cell phones ring. Teenagers text. Babies cry. Can.t we all just sit in silence and watch Tom Cruise sing .I Want to Know What Love Is. into Malin Akerman.s butt, please? Well, the good folks over at The Oatmeal have it all figured out. Well-behaved adults who aren.t going through puberty, wearing a diaper or .cooking up snarky remarks to yell at the screen. are invited to sit in normal seats . or .the big kid.s table. . with the rest of the ticket-buying public. Broadway shows haven’t always made the smoothest of transitions to the big-screen, but Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages delivers an adaptation that’s bizarre and its own sexually-suggestive summer feature: from showcasing star Tom Cruise’s bare ass to backing Cruise’s choice of venue for an out-there rendition of Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is” – Malin Akerman’s posterior – Shankman takes the material and stuffs as much as he can into it. These choices represent the work he hopes to keep making – distinctive and not what most would consider to be the norm, box office be damned. Shankman’s been enough of a commercial hitmaker throughout his career to earn the freedom to make those oddball choices, having cranked out a series of box-office success, from Bringing Down the House all the way to The Pacifier. As Shankman tells us, those gems are the type of learning experiences which led him...

Aside from the fact that few moviegoers opted to watched Tom Cruise & Co. sing middling renditions of eighties songs this past weekend, the decade nonetheless remains an incredibly popular one at karaoke nights across America. And anyone who’s ever sung at one of those karaoke nights knows that getting up the nerve is only half the challenge — you then have to pick a tune from hundreds, sometimes thousands, of options. There’s nothing simple about this decision. Friends and audience members will likely interpret the choice as a glimpse into your soul. In an attempt to figure out who exactly picks what type of song, Vulture went to a karaoke night at R Bar in Los Angeles’s Koreatown. There we sang, observed, and chatted with some regulars.Song Choice: Foreigner, “I Want to Know What Love Is”Moods Evoked: Sentimental, CozyIf You Sing This, You Are Likely: The...

The '80s are alive and well in director Adam Shankman's movie musical "Rock of Ages," which shimmied into theaters Friday (June 15).Based on the hit Broadway production of the same name, the flick follows would-be musician Drew Boley (Diego Boneta) as he falls for new-in-town Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough) and lands his big break opening for rock legend Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) at the famed Bourbon Room.
The soundtrack is stuffed with the era's biggest hits like "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," "Don't Stop Believin' " and "I Want to Know What Love Is," but the toe-tapping tunes aren't the only throwbacks to the decade of decadence. Pay close attention and you'll spot a number of '80s music mavens.
