The expansion of free streaming services continues unabated. On Wednesday, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (Csse) shared some details on its ever-expanding reach and upcoming original programming at the Iab Newfronts in New York. A month after launching a new advertising sales division known as Crackle Connex, Csse reports having an audience of over 80 million monthly active users, up 100% year-over-year.
This rapid expansion was aided by the company acquiring Redbox last May, giving Csse an out-of-home presence, but the majority of the growth comes from the addition of over 160 channels on the company’s free ad-supported streaming TV (Fast) and ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) services.

Csse also benefited from the addition of Crackle and Redbox buttons on [Vizio Smart TV] remotes, making the free streaming services even easier to access and front-of-mind for viewers. Thanks to new deals with the likes of Crunchyroll, Funimation, Vidgo,...

The first Entourage trailer is finally here, and Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his boys are going after blockbuster billions.
Written and directed by Doug Ellin, the film picks up where the HBO series left off. Here, Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) is now running his own studio. His first production? A $100 million action movie directed by and starring his golden boy Vincent Chase. And if Gold’s screaming and thrashing are any indication, it’s not exactly going according to plan.
Tagging along for the ride, as they do, are his crew, played by Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, and Jerry Ferrara. Emmanuelle Chriqui reprises her role as Sloan, while Billy Bob Thornton, Emily Ratajkowski, and Haley Joel Osment make notable appearances.
Just for kicks, check out the poster for the film within the film, Hyde, in which Chase notably stars opposite Calvin Harris:...

Throwing a cultural lasso around the increasingly obsolete Christmas Number One single Disney have unveiled a charming, and a little silly, musical number featuring one of the chilly cast of their forthcoming film Frozen.
Written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (who became an awards magnet for his work on Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s The Book of Mormon) ‘In Summer’ is a well rendered song, full of charm and the usual invention Disney’s animation arm have availed them of in recent years. The film stars Kristen Bell who leads an expedition to find and defeat her sister who has cast a spell encasing the entire kingdom in ice. Just for kicks.
While we’re promised some dazzling vistas (as evidenced by some of the early concept art) they’ll be anthropomorphic shenanigans aplenty with trolls and, in Olaf’s case, a snowman.

Heroes have to do something in their spare time, so why not roller derby? Turns out the heroines of both Marvel and DC love to get their skate on, and thanks to artist Kevin Bolk, look completely adorable doing it. His art has always been incredibly fun and colorful, and his newest set is no different. You can catch the rest of the set of 16 art cards in the gallery below, and you can find more of his fantastic art on his Deviant Art page. Just for kicks, who do you think would win in this epic standoff? My guess is between Black Widow and Mystique, all of DC's team would have skates on bricks or exploding helmets, but hey, all is fair in war and derby.

In the Digital Age, the word “Film” has somewhat lost its meaning. A lot of movies these days are films in name only, sort of the way an album of MP3s is referred to as a record. Perhaps because of it’s nostalgia, a lot of people now use the word film as a way of distinguishing a “good” movie. For example, I don’t think anybody has ever referred to The Smurfs 2 as a film. Just for kicks, let’s try it right now. “Tonight Beatrice and I will be enjoying an evening at the cinema. We shall be seeing a film called The Smurfs 2.” See? That didn’t feel right.
Well, it looks like J.J. Abrams new Star Wars movie is going to be a film not just in name only. Boba Fett Fan Club is reporting that according to Mr. Abrams frequent cinamatographer Dan Mindel,...

This week on Grey’s Anatomy, Derek manages to save the ER. (Hurrah!) But it really doesn’t matter, because it turns out there’s no hope for the hospital. (Huh?) Allow me to explain…
Pulling The Plug | Though Derek convinces enough other departments to trim a little fat here, a little fat there, to keep the ER open – and Owen is able to show Alana how valuable it is – its fate is already sealed. In fact, so is Seattle Grace’s. The hospital, the efficiency expert reveals, is going to be sold! And, just like that, everything makes sense:...

Some alarmists might consider the seemingly mandatory media coverage of weekend box office to be the true death of vital film culture, more money meaning nothing other than, well, more money. (See: Cosmopolis). Even for the sites that do it well, the figures are only good for so much. Generally speaking the most gargantuan hits of any year cost a lot to make so even when they're as big as everyone involves hopes they'll be (like Bond or the superhero epics they generally only return $4 bucks or so for every $1 they cost -- at least in their original window of money-making opportunity. Merchandising and sequels are obviously a reason for the gamble and will make you much much more later on). So I read through all the charts on Thompson in Hollywood's blockbuster box office wrap specifically with profit in mind. So here's what I've gleaned as the most profitable...

SyFy's most recent Battlestar Galactica companion, Blood and Chrome, recently completed its ten episode run on the Machinima Prime YouTube Original Channel. Whether you believe Blood and Chrome could become its own series or if you found it to be underwhelming, it's notable that SyFy chose to release the feature in twelve minute web installments rather than one feature-length TV movie, as the channel had done with previous BSG properties. Was the web series route the correct path for Blood and Chrome, or would it have been better suited for TV? Just for kicks, let's compare it to The Plan, a BSG TV movie first shown on TV in 2010. The Plan was penned by Husbands writer Jane Espenson, so in a slightly different alternate universe it could have seen online release. As it was, The Plan hit SyFy in January 2010, and while its ratings are weirdly difficult to find, the...

In the last minutes of the Teen Wolf season finale, when everyone was standing around in a slack-jawed in the warehouse watching the scene before them unfold (I’ll get to why in a second…), I was pretty much in the same state. In its second season, this show has really learned how to deliver a climax, and that was true more than ever in last night’s finale. [Spoiler alert!]
I had fully expected this season closer to be bold: Jackson would die because there’s no redeeming the character, I thought. Maybe an adult would die, too. Just for kicks.

Children of the eighties unite! I won't go as far to say we had a uniform to show how cool we were, but we certainly had some specific fashions that were unique to the times. Just look at this picture of Wil Wheaton, a true child of the eighties, who posted this photo via Flickr stating, "I was a total dork in the 80s". He goes on to label his awesome jean jacket and states, "I'm cool because I have [this] on my denim jacket, right?". Wil is referring to the Hard Rock Cafe pin of which we all had to have on our jean jackets if we were truly cool. Apparently Wil was a fan of Batman, too and luckily SuperHeroStuff.Com can help you be as cool as Wil with our buttons and pins. Just for kicks, lets look at a few of the cool Avengers pins that...

[1] As the source is somewhat less than airtight, you should probably take the following with the biggest grain of salt you can get your hands on -- but on the off chance there's some truth to it, this rumor is too wild not to repeat. A new report claims that George Clooney and Noah Wyle are vying for the lead role in the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, which is being developed at Sony based on Walter Isaacson's bestselling biography. More details after the jump. The story comes from the UK tabloid The Sun [2] (via Cult of Mac [3]), which reports that the former ER co-stars are competing against each other to play the late Apple co-founder. There probably aren't many times I'd vote for Wyle over Clooney, but in this case Wyle actually seems like the better choice. For one thing, he's already played Jobs once, in 1999's Pirates of Silicon Valley.

Still dissecting the trailer for Fox's Touch? Frustrated you can't start an actual countdown to the return of Kiefer Sutherland because the show still doesn't have an airdate? You're not alone.
Fox makes Kiefer Sutherland's return to primetime official
The upcoming drama from Heroes boss Tim Kring stars 24's Sutherland doing what he does best: making sure the world doesn't self-destruct. Standing in for Jack Bauer is Touch's Martin Bohm, widower and father to a mute son, Jake. The problem? Jake harbors the uncanny ability to connect patterns and discover the meaning behind seemingly unrelated events happening all over the world.... In other words, he can predict when bad stuff is going to go down, among other things, and his dad Martin's the one who will have to deal. (Get ready for emotional Kiefer, world!)

Kurt here, back with another installment of Cinema de Gym. Y'all didn't have much to say about the last two episodes, so I'm happy to return with a movie that's more actressy and Oscary, for better or worse. Hopefully it'll get folks talking. Juno is a film that has not sat well in my memory – a hipper-than-thou pin cushion for all my Quirk Cinema complaints. When a post-2007 indie gets under the skin with all its precious, self-negating eccentricities, Diablo Cody usually proves the perfect scapegoat. What hath she wrought with her Millenial-surrealist dialogue, best described as Kevin Williamson by way of the Urban Outfitters library? Well, probably half of what's now in the Urban Outfitters library, for one. Her words are sticky pop contrivance glazed over genuine depth of feeling, a concoction that was wildly validated by everyone from Oscar to Ebert to an army of young adults, who'd...

Just on the heels of her campaign's misuse of the Katy Perry's Lgbt-friendly anthem "Firework," Michele Bachmann is now under fire for using Tom Petty's classic "American Girl." Though Petty gave Hillary Clinton permission to use the 1977 track in her 2008 campaign, he's issued a cease-and-desist letter to Bachmann for trying to do the same. Sick burn! Petty also took issue with George W. Bush a few years back for trying to use "Won't Back Down." I never get tired of it when musicians call out politicians they hate for appropriating their music, though at the rate she's going it looks like Bachmann might have to stick to Public Domain's greatest hits for the rest of the campaign. The first time out of the gate, all 20 "So You Think You Can Dance" season 8 contestants got a reprieve -- all made it to week two. But, that mercy really only delayed the inevitable. On Thursday's (June 23) show, four dancers faced elimination.
Missy and Wadi, who danced a cha-cha -- well out of street dancer Wadi's wheelhouse -- were the first to end up in the bottom three. Good thing Wadi got that offer to move in with guest judge Debbie Reynolds. Next up, Iveta and Nick, who kind of drew the short straw with Wednesday's Bollywood routine. Finally, Ryan and Ricky -- whose performance was somewhat eclipsed by Ryan's post-dance wardrobe malfunction.
Just for kicks, let's compare to last week's bottom seven dancers (seven because Mitchell was unable to perform thanks to a bum elbow): Mitchell, Jordan, Tadd, Clarisse, Jess, Miranda and Robert.) Totally different -- meaning it...

Fandom makes really talented guys spend their energy on fan posters/films/images that go nowhere. Hey, if they've got a professional job and they're pouring out fan art, more power to them. As I said via Shock's Twitter account last week when a fake Dark Knight Rises trailer made the rounds: I wish these guys put as much effort into original works as they put into fan trailers. With that rant out of the way, some particularly cool fan art slipped onto /Film that I really, really dug. An Italian artist - presently working in London at an FX house - created four Ghostbusters characters renders that depicted the 'busters as CG characters. Why'd he do it? To the current generation of pop-music consumers, Record Store Day, which is tomorrow, might seem as relevant as Buggy Whip Day. But once upon a time, boys and girls, people purchased their music in an actual store — you would pay the owner greenbacks and walk out with either a CD, or a cassette, or an album. These were physical objects that could be held in your hands. The covers on the ancient albums were sometimes art in themselves, and the liner notes could be perused for hours and hours.

Please make the Sister Act musical, which starts previews at the Broadway Theatre tonight, a half-decent homage to the Whoopi Goldberg film that briefly made catechism cool in 1992. Deliver it from the mostly tepid reviews that met its 2009 London debut. Let Xanadu’s Douglas Carter Beane, who officially joined the creative team last month (but tells EW he’d been working on the play since November) have added the laughs that British critics claimed the book by Emmy-winning Cheers writers Cheri and Bill Steinkellner lacked. I have never in my life put off a review as long as this one. Perhaps it is because I don't like thinking about my own mortality, perhaps it is because I really don't know what I think about this flick.
I saw Enter The Void months ago and I haven't stopped talking about it. Now it is out in theaters (okay, maybe theater) and you can finally go see it. It is one of the dullest and most pretentious movies I'll ever call a masterpiece.
It strives to tell us, to show us, what happens to us when we die. It also strives to replicate the use of hallucinogenics on film. It is also has some of the most technically spectacular "first person" camerawork I've ever seen. An early shot of "us" at a mirror is like the Harpo Marx gag from Duck Soup, but only on psychedelics amidst...

It's not unusual for a director/actor duo to make multiple films together. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton have been making a full time career out of working together. But perhaps an argument could be made that one of the (if not The) best tandem in Hollywood is that of director Martin Scorsese and actor Leonardo Dicaprio.

Kiddie country sensation Taylor Swift is coming to town. Just for kicks I checked Stubhub to see how much people were willing to resell tickets to the sold out show. I nearly threw up my Twinkie when I saw quite a few seats priced at $l,200. That’s not a typo. They are expecting some parent to pay $1,2000 for their kid to see a twig with a blonde wig. Since the kid isn’t of driving age, that means the parent is willing to pay $2,400 to make their kid happy. While the seats were on the floor, they were nearly 50 rows back from the stage.
For that price, I expect to be close enough to the stage to know if Taylor Swift wears panties or a g-string. I want to be close enough to use qualify as her Ob-gyn. I...
