As the Undertaker announces his retirement, we look back at his Wrestlemania record...
This article is from Den Of Geek Us.
WrestleMania XXX was an eventful show. It calmed the fears of those afraid that it would crash the WWE Network and cause major damage to the company's latest venture. Cesaro broke away from his tag team and broke out by winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy. Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, and the Rock hung out in the ring and had a blast. Mr. T and Roddy Piper buried the hatchet. Daniel Bryan went through an endless supply of punishment before being defeating Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista.
That was a big moment and a major story, but the thing people will be talking about for a long time is the end of Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar. For the first time ever, Undertaker lost at...

Every wrestler who goes on to become a legitimate main event level star needs those matches that define them on that path. That’s simply a fact of life in the wrestling industry, performers must beat those higher on the totem pole than they before being perceived as credible headliners themselves.
This is a tried and tested way of doing things, and has shown itself to work time and time again. To use a modern example, would John Cena have gone on to become the household name he is today if he hadn’t defeated Jbl at WrestleMania 21? That was his first World Title win, and it helped launch his main event career.
It isn’t always when winning a top title that wrestlers find their careers being made, this can also happen by simply having a sparkling match, or showing they can drag others to a superb bout.

As with every January, speculation is rampant over potential future WrestleMania locations. Around now is the time where WWE let us know where the following year’s Mania will be held.
Recently, we heard rumours that WWE were eyeing Florida once again as a potential Mania location, returning to the Sunshine State after the successes of WrestleMania 28 (The Rock’s return vs John Cena, Undertaker vs Hhh Hell in a Cell) and WrestleMania 24 (Edge vs Taker, Flair’s retirement match vs Shawn Michaels).
Now comes word from F4WOnline (via Lop) that Los Angeles is being discussed as a potential home for a WrestleMania in the coming years. With this rumour, next year’s WrestleMania 33 is not specifically being mentioned, just rather that La could be a potential location soon.

It has been a rough month for rock n’ roll.
Lemmy Kilmister, the iconic frontman of Motörhead, passed away Monday at the age of 70 just days after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
Kilmister, who had continued touring right up until his death, had been having health issues for the better part of 2015, but refused to call it a day, despite being forced off stage and cancelling a number of shows. In true rock fashion, Lemmy refused to give up.
The rock legend – who notoriously claimed to have drank a bottle of Jack Daniels every day since turning thirty, and who recently stated he switched to vodka from whiskey “for his health” – was an icon in the business who also launched a Motörhead wine, played with Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and appeared in the video for White Limo by the band.

This past Monday’s Raw featured one of the biggest moments of 2015, when Roman Reigns defeated Sheamus to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Several factors contributed to WWE’s decision to put the title on Reigns that night instead of at another event or at another location.
It was certainly a surprise, since seeing a championship title change hands on an episode of Raw is no longer a common occurrence, and it’s especially rare for that title to be the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. When fans think of breakout moments for some of the biggest superstars in WWE history, the stage in which those events take place is pay-per-view instead of WWE’s flagship show.
And when that breakout moment involves the next face of the company, the occasion becomes that much more special since there are only a handful of those moments that exist. Some of...

What an unexpected treat this was, hey?
We’re gearing up for a WWE Network special ‘Elimination Chamber’ event on May 31st. It features a full card of matches, including the much-anticipated main roster debut of Nxt Champion Kevin Owens – who faces United States Champion John Cena – and Seth Rollins defends the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against old foe Dean Ambrose.
But, just in case you hadn’t noticed, there’s something else. Two things, actually. The Tag Team Championships and the vacated Intercontinental Championship will be decided inside the chamber itself. It’s been a long time coming, and the show is shaping up to be pretty darn exciting.
Two people per pod in the Tag Team title match? Shut up and take my money!

WWE released the outstanding two-disc documentary The Rise and Fall of Ecw in November 2004. The doc looked at the life of the Philadelphia-based organisation, over three years after it had closed its doors and been bought by WWE. The two and a half hour long feature looked at everything and was a major critical hit.
Fans raved about the doc, which was honest and open and featured interviews with many Ecw personalities. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter awarded it the DVD Of The Year Award. Other reviews were similarly glowing. Importantly, the DVD was a commercial hit, too.
At that point it was one of the biggest-selling WWE DVDs of all time, behind only WrestleMania 21. The success of the DVD took many by surprise. It just kept growing and growing. Clearly there was still an audience for Ecw. An audience that WWE could capitalise on.

When the name Kurt Angle is mentioned, there are a few images that immediately come to mind. His gold medal win in the 1996 Olympics, his five star match with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 21, and him famously driving a milk truck into Raw spraying The Alliance with a hose full of vitamin D.
From his world class career as an amateur through his meteoric rise in WWE to his Hall Of Fame induction in Tna, Angle has made a meaningful impression in almost every arena in the world of wrestling. Certainly no one has forgotten the lasting image of him throwing Shane McMahon through the glass during their epic encounter at the 2001 King of The Ring.
Angle has reached heights that no other wrestler could realistically hope to achieve. And Tna has gone to great lengths to secure his services and essentially promote him as the face of their company.

Few people in WWE history are capable of receiving more of a polarizing response than John Cena. The face of the WWE for more or less 10 years, Cena has been at the top of the company since he won his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania 21. Since then, Cena has played the role of the never-say-die superhero, always overcoming all obstacles and defending the virtues of ‘Hustle, Loyalty, Respect’.
However, many fans think that he has become stale, with a growing number of them firmly believing that he should turn heel. They think that John Cena the good guy has long overstayed his welcome, and that a new character should take his place.
This view is echoed by many, including those who believe that he will turn heel at Survivor Series. Even Cena himself made remarks about the idea, confirming to his fan base that the Cena we...

Your time is up, because his time has been now for a long time. John Cena is definitely a man who needs no introduction. He has been in the WWE since 2002 and the top guy of the company since his first title win at WrestleMania 21 back in 2005. He is an astounding 15-time world champion, only trailing Ric Flair who is a 16-time world champion. Cena has won the WWE Championship 12 times, and the World Heavyweight Championship 3 times. HIs combined days as WWE World Heavyweight Champion ranks fourth all time behind Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, and Hulk Hogan.
As many of you know, the WWE is focused on entertainment just as much as it is wrestling. It is no surprise that it’s top star for about a decade is involved in more than just the WWE. He has made many television cameos, including Hannah Montana and Psych.

The 31st edition of WrestleMania takes place on Sunday March 29, 2015 in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. The actual city is Santa Clara and the stadium is Levi’s Stadium where the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers play. It’s the first WrestleMania to take place in California since WrestleMania 21 in Los Angeles ten years earlier.
Since the current WWE product is a little bit stale right now due to the absence of top stars like Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns while the WWE Champion Brock Lesnar is at home until 2015, it’s a good time to think about WrestleMania 31 next year.
This is not about what I think WWE is going to do. This is about what I would do if WWE gave me full control of what happens at WrestleMania. Since that’s not going to happen, this becomes fantasy booking and you should...

He debuted in 2002 against Kurt Angle, and three years later won his first WWE Championship against Jbl at WrestleMania 21 and thus began his decade long run at the top of the business, an unstoppable franchise, an absolute money making machine that makes Vince McMahon salivate from the mouth. It’s been speculated about for weeks and on Main Event, WWE made it official. There will be a second ladder match at the Money in the Bank PPV, this time with the WWE Title contract in a briefcase up for grabs. It’s the same format for every Money in the Bank ladder match in WWE history going back to the first one at WrestleMania 21 in 2005. The match was announced by Seth Rollins, likely as a message from Triple H as Rollins declared himself the first entrant in the match.
The winner of the Money in the Bank briefcase gets to cash in the contract on the WWE Champion any time in the next year. In recent years there were two briefcases (red and blue) that allowed somebody to cash in on the WWE Title or the World Title, but since those titles were merged into...

There have been 14 Money in the Bank ladder matches in WWE since the first one took place at WrestleMania 21 in 2005. It’s a match concept that was created by Chris Jericho and over the last decade it has become a favorite match of WWE fans because of the excitement that surrounds it.
The first six Money in the Bank ladder matches took place at WrestleMania (WM21 to WM26) and then in 2010 it became its own PPV event with two ladder matches taking place. This year it’s back to just one ladder match because WWE only has one World Heavyweight Champion now.
When somebody cashes in a Money in the Bank contract on a champion, it usually means a lot to that person because 12 of the 14 cash-ins have led to a title change. It hasn’t always meant success, though. Sometimes a person wins the briefcase, then...

John Cena is the number one star in WWE and has been on a career high for nearly a decade now. He first won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 21 in 2005 and hasn’t looked back since, consistently being booked as the main event act and face of the company. Whether you like him or not, this is the Millennium generation’s Hulk Hogan, their Steve Austin or Rock. He has in fact had a longer main event run than Austin and Rock combined.
Something is going on with Cena in 2014 though. For the first time ever we are seeing him take a step back, partly out of choice, partly out of the company changing the pack. This year has been uncharted territory for John, he was just a mid card match at WreslteMania 30, where he found himself received with apathy and silence.

WWE’s handling of WrestleMania 30 has been filled with controversy. The traditionally named ‘Road to WrestleMania’ from the Royal Rumble to Mania itself has been nothing short of a confused and short-sighted mess. Huge errors have taken place and could yet cost the company big. The planned card has changed on multiple occasions over the last few months, and not by design, the company has simply not had a grip on what they are doing. In addition to the creative folly there has also been mis-steps on the corporate front. It is hard to remember such a tumultuous road to WrestleMania, with the dark days of 1997 and WrestleMania 13 perhaps being the last fumbled effort of clearly headless decision making.
The frustrating thing about WWE is it shouldn’t have been hard to get right. All the areas the company has fumbled on should have been easy home runs.

John Cena has been one of the most polarizing figures in the history of sports entertainment. Fans either respect and adore The Leader Of The Cenation or despise and loathe a man they see as everything that is sports entertainment today. Over the last ten years Cena has earned 14 championship reigns during his career. An impressive feat for any wrestler and the most prodigious of all-time for just WWE championships and just two short of Ric Flair’s record for most recognized World Championships regardless of promotion.
With Cena all but guaranteed of winning at least two more championships and tying himself with Flair before his career reaches an end, and with the event that he won his first championship WrestleMania, just around the corner, what better time to look at Cena’s accomplishments and championship reigns from his first at WrestleMania 21 to his last World Heavyweight...

For nine years John Cena has been the face of the WWE. Ever since the Doctor of Thuganomics defeated Jbl at WrestleMania 21 to win his first WWE Championship, he has been positioned as the company’s number one babyface, the figurehead of the main event scene. The role that was once filled by Hulk Hogan in the 80s and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the 90s now belongs to John Cena. Over the last decade we have seen him headline WrestleManias, star in movies, represent the company in everything from media events, to various charity work, to visiting the troops overseas. He is the most famous active wrestler working today and will be remembered as such many years after he dies.
And yet everybody wants this man to turn heel?
Despite Cena’s enduring popularity with WWEs younger audience, fans above the age of twelve find John Cena frustrating.

He is the most famous active wrestler working today and will be remembered as such many years after he dies.
And yet everybody wants this man to turn heel?
Despite Cena’s enduring popularity with WWEs younger audience, fans above the age of twelve find John Cena frustrating.

We are fast approaching the 30th annual WrestleMania event and it is the time of year when many wrestling fans look back on the famous event and revisit the moments that, for whatever reason, were memorable to them. Through the years there have been plenty of memorable moments at WrestleMania and dozens of wrestlers have carved themselves into the tree-bark of history with their performance on the grandest stage in professional wrestling. One of those wrestlers, of course, is the man who called himself “The Heartbreak Kid” and was labelled by fans and critics alike as “Mr WrestleMania”. That man is Shawn Michaels, and this DVD/Blu-ray package is about his legacy on WWE’s main stage.
Shawn Michaels made his WrestleMania debut as part of The Rockers tag team with Marty Jannetty to take on The Twin Towers in 1989 at the fifth annual show, and his last wrestling appearance...

The Gimmick Match. Depending on your viewpoint, these can be the highlight of a pay per view or an unnecessary distraction to the ‘real’ wrestling.
Those in favour like the difference it brings to a traditional wrestling match, and even the most anti-gimmick fan could not argue with some of the classics that have been produced. The submission match at Wrestlemania 13 between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Bret Hart is one of the all-time great Wrestlemania matches for instance, and the hardcore match between Mick Foley and Edge is spectacular in its brutality
Others would say there is less skill involved in gimmick matches and they are merely combinations of ‘spots’ or a way to show-in a flavour of the month celebrity. Did the sumo match at Wrestlemania 21 between the Big Show and Akebono really take place on the same card...

This time of year in WWE provides wrestling fans with a reminder of some funny commercials that aired over the years. Most years, WWE’s commercials have centered around comedy because in the professional wrestling business, the goal is to entertain the fans by any means necessary. When it comes to a commercial, comedy is always a good way to go.
Before it begins, it should be noted that prior to WrestleMania 21 in 2005, there were many parody videos that WWE put out. I’m going to include several of them, but not all. There are also going to be ones that I may have missed because frankly over the course of 30 years there have been a lot of them.
Most of these choices come from the last 15 years because they’re much better in terms of their quality. Anybody that can remember those corny In Your House commercials...

Batista returns to the WWE on Monday for the first time in nearly four years and returns to the ring during the Royal Rumble next Sunday. Is his return to be celebrated or mired in controversy by a fanbase demanding of more current stars being featured on April’s grand stage? That choice is up to the readers, but for the next several minutes, we will celebrate The Animal’s career. His impressive legacy includes three WrestleMania WWE or World Heavyweight Championship matches and countless other headlining bouts in prominent positions on top level WWE PPVs. It is certainly not every day that a wrestler with his credentials makes the choice to end a near half decade retirement for a comeback run.
Perception shapes reality. Let us reflect on the best matches that Batista gave us in his career, to date.

Hosted by The Miz, the compilation features every Money in the Bank Ladder Match in history. The match debuted at WrestleMania 21 in 2005, quickly becoming a WrestleMania tradition and in 2010 proved so popular that it was given its own annual PPV event. Several top Superstars have been Money in the Bank winners including John Cena, Kane, Edge, Cm Punk (twice!), Rob Van Dam and many more. 11 of the first 12 winners have used the match as a springboard to winning a championship, and several times the match has helped a Superstar who has never win a World Championship break through to claim their first. Much like the Royal Rumble Match, the Money in the Bank match represents a golden opportunity for a Superstar to achieve immortality, and its entire lineage is presented here.

There have been a number of creative innovations that have come out of the WWE think tank over the years, chief among them the Hell in a Cell concept that has given rise to some incredible bouts (though few have topped Undertaker versus Mankind from 1998’s King of the Ring). One of the most unique, though, and a game changer for the WWE universe was the introduction of the Money in the Bank ladder match in 2005.
The first Money in the Bank was held at Wrestlemania 21 and pitted six men against each other in a battle to be the first to climb to the top of a ladder and retrieve a briefcase containing a contract guaranteeing a shot at one of the WWE world titles. This debut bout was contested between Edge, Chris Benoit, Shelton Benoit, Christian, Kane and Chris Jericho (credited in WWE storylines with coming up with...

On June 27th 2002, a fresh-faced 25-year-old made his WWE debut. In his first match, he impressed fans with his sheer determination and ruthless aggression as he came up short against Kurt Angle. That wrestler was John Cena.
He found his place as an arrogant rapper, who earned the respect of the crowd with positive matches against talents like Angle, Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker. Like the anti-heroes before him, the cheers slowly started to outweigh the boos – in part due to his natural charisma – and by the end of 2004 it was clear that he was ready for the WWE Championship. He, along with Batista, ushered in a new generation of wrestlers when Cena defeated Jbl for the title at WrestleMania 21 and Batista defeated Triple H for the World Heavyweight Title.
Over the next seven years Cena collected a further 11 world titles, which included a 380-day reign which made him...

Winning the Money in the Bank briefcase is almost as prestigious as wearing one of the many title belts in WWE at the moment. It is almost a sure thing that the winner will become World Champion at some point and it has done wonders for the careers of many top stars. But what about the others? Has the title Mr Money in the Bank always brought good luck and fortune?
WhatCulture! examines the history of the event and what happened to the winners.
2005, Wrestlemania 21 – Chris Jericho Vs Christian Vs Chris Benoit Vs Edge Vs Shelton Benjamin Vs Kane
The first ever Money in the Bank was held at Wrestlemania 21 and featured many of the WWE’s most exciting talents at the time. The eventual winner was Edge who cashed in the briefcase at the January 2006 News Year’s Revolution PPV. We don’t need to remind you...

Just making the card of wrestlemania is enough to fulfil the dreams of some of the members of the wwe roster but then there are others who aim a little higher to pursue a coveted wrestlemania moment and to steal the show with their match on the grandest stage of them all. It is the grandstand wrestling event where the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock watched childhood heroes such as Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage engage in combat and where today’s main eventers such as Cm Punk and The Miz were captivated in turn by the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock.
With so much desire in the air it is perhaps not surprising to discover that Wrestlemania has been responsible for numerous great matches, many of which had to be sacrificed for this elite list but what follows is simply my...

We are less than a month away from WrestleMania 28, and as always there is huge hype surrounding the top few matches on the card. But spare a thought for the match that takes place first on the card, whose job is to get the show off to a good start and psyche up the crowd.
What follows is a collection of the best of those opening matches, and what’s interesting is how many participants went on from opening the show, to main eventing it a few years later.
10. WrestleMania 15
Hardcore Title Match: Billy Gunn vs. Al Snow vs. Hardcore Holly
This match marked the first time that the Hardcore Title was defended at a Wrestlemania event. Prior to this match, Gunn was part of the Intercontinental Title programme, while his partner Road Dogg was the one known for Hardcore. For some reason, they switched divisions and Gunn defended here.

It has been said by many wrestling fans for a long time now that WWE just isn’t as entertaining as it used to be. And how could that be? I mean, entertainment is right there in the name: World Wrestling Entert… oh. Well, it used to be, before the powers that be changed the name of the company from World Wrestling Entertainment to simply WWE.
That’s right folks, those letters don’t actually stand for anything any more. Still, you would think that a Wrestling company would want to provide it’s fans with the best Wrestling show they could possibly produce, right? That may be, but sadly WWE doesn’t want to be considered as a “wrestling” company any longer either. Yes sir, you read that correctly. WWE has every intention of becoming less a company based in “sports entertainment” and more a huge multimedia conglomerate. The current plan,...
