Watchable, even though the plot is far fetched.

The body of a young Jordanian man is discovered in a meat packing factor, pages of a very rare and priceless Golden Koran are found with the body.

I have enjoyed this fourth series, it's been a good watch, I was hoping the series would have ended on a high note, in reality it's a big of a damp squib.

I wasn't a massive fan of the Detective played by Nigel Betts, the clashes didn't work somehow. Some elements of the plot were a little bit far fetched I think it's safe to say. I even thought that elements of the plot were pretty easy to guess once you are given some of the facts.

The best thing for me, was seeing Neil Maskell, I'm a massive fan of his, all you can say is that he was woefully underused here. Mark Benton as always is a joy to watch.

It's a little disappointing, but still a decent watch, 6/10.

end of season 4

Lynley and Havers are called in when the body of a Jordanian man is found frozen in a meat truck. Originally it seems like human trafficking; the man has a phony British passport, and the crime fits a past smuggling crime. But according to the autopsy, the man was strangled, and he has a page from the Golden Koran, which is very valuable.

The case becomes one of not only murder, but tracking down this valuable Koran, which will lead them to the killer.

Interesting Lynley, which ends the season with a cliffhanger.

Lynley is in a pretty foul mood during a good deal of this as Havers tries to hold him together. He's hurting from his separation from Helen.

Good, and a good mystery.

Final episode of season 4

Warning: Spoilers
A real twist at the end of "Word of God", and throughout the series you get to see the "real side" of gritty London where folk live in council flats, high rises. No Midsomer pubs and greenery here, except for obligatory views of the Thames and the city skyline. You also see the rainy streets.

Inspector Lynley sort of rekindles a possible romance with Christine Miller (Matilda Ziegler) and she twice invites him up for a nightcap if you know what I mean. Inspector Lynley doesn't succumb as he still believes he has a future with Helen. Incidentally, Helen appears in season 5, ep 1 where she is played by a new actress. Havers gets a bit jealous, and you do wonder if she still has feelings for Lynley and vice-versa. They still care for each other, and in fact she allowed Lynley to stay at her place (on the coach) when he decided not to accept Christine's second nightcap offer.

Jane Lapotaire features as a Harley Street doctor, and she is impressive in whatever role she plays. Jane was one of the lead performers in the unforgettable and highly acclaimed TV British drama series Blind Justice, where she played a QC in a progressive barristers' chambers.

Word of God? I don't think so!

This story has a lot of reasons for people being killed.

A man is found dead in a refrigerated truck that has meat in it. He was strangled.

This episode contain many reasons for murder. There is transporting illegal immigrants from Jordan into the country. Some have died in transportation so there is a investigation on that. Then there are fake IDs.

A expensive Koran that has pages ripped out and sold for a lot of money. Then there is a doctor who operates on people that need transplants that over charges, then there is a man that sells his organs for money.

One of the men who is a Muslim has access to the Koran worth a lot of money but claims he did not know what it was.

It appears the Muslims in this episode did not read the Koran or they would have known the pages were from this book. The man that was in the meat truck was a Muslim and when he died according the story they believed in Sharia Law and the dead man's brother becomes his wife's husband. Yuk.

The story is interesting like in other episodes too many plots too many suspects. Running and chasing after suspects, fights and no gun. Too stupid. They have cell phones but no guns.

Lynley is suffering a lot of grief, the loss of his first child and separation from his wife. It affect his job and the way he reacts under stress.

Too me the Koran is not the Word of God it is the wrong title for this episode.

Stupid!

With specific reference to the actual Title. The Bible IS the Word of God, therefore, the Koran (as it appears to be spelt in this episode) cannot be. Whilst it is sacred to the followers of Islam, the actual story is in reality meaningless. However, you do have an encounter with another "toff" as part of the story line - a female surgeon operating on people for money, but like the previous episode, we have another "toff" who has superior intellect to Lynley and cant be arrested as she appears to know all the right people. The Murderer, who is easy to work out is someone with a lust for lots of money-to be made out of this particular Koran! Sadly, the writer has gone to town on the continuing "grief" of Lynley at losing his wife who we havent seen for numerous episodes which is affecting his work. Watch if you have nothing better to do. For fans of Sharon Small, its at present, the only thing making watching these, watchable. She is a better copper than he will ever be!
